Love love love!! The staff, the food. Beach ambiance, not fancy but the chicken salad is the best on the island!

Love to eat at this place when visiting my mom. It is a bit small, with some outside seating. Can get very busy during the summer months, especially lunch time. Can walk over from beach. I enjoy their chicken salad sandwich on toasted sourdough. Today I tried the chicken salad BLT sandwich. Very good. They have several side options. My mom had the Stump Sound Bowl. It is made up of cilantro-lime rice, black beans, corn, peppers, onions, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes and chipotle sauce. You can add a meat. My mom gets it without cheese or the chipotle sauce. She always ends up taking half of it home. Staff is always friendly and food is good. read more

This is the second time I've been to SurfDog in the last 2 years (Surf City is a 4-5 hour drive for my family and vacations don't happen every year), and it's just as good as the first time I had it. I got the Boxer Dog and the Lab Dog plus a Flying Machine cream ale. Our server let me and my mom sample the beers/ales we were interested in and on our first sample we found what we wanted. I love places that let me have a sample of what's on draft when I'm facing a bunch of unfamiliar brands. My mom started with one Lab dog and her Teaches beer, but loved it so much she had to go back and get a second dog. That's a testament to how good everything is- she never goes back for seconds! read more

Really cute place.. plenty of seating inside at bar or tables plus nice outside seating with shade! I came to beach and the sea air made me hungry lol...I've wanted to try this place but never did til now.. boy was I missing out!! They have something for everyone including little kids.. they have pretty decent selection of beer in cooler or you can get something they have on draft. Also tea waters and sodas..the menu had tacos and hamburgers and salads and big list which all sounded good. Today I came for a hot dog.. the staff was very nice and waited on me to order.. I got hot dog with chilli and slaw cause it's my favorite! It came as combo wit side.. I got fries.. the hot dog was one of best I've had! Loved the vibes! Quick stop to eat after a day on the beach. The waiter was lovely and handled a busy shift flawlessly.

We ordered two pender burgers, but neither was edible. One was seared on both sides and completely red, with the middle cold. The second burger was cooked properly; however, the bottom bun was completely mushy, and had gushed over the fries. So, we ended up using the lettuce we already had in the fridge and made a lettuce wrap burger and split it between two people. Then, we had the chicken tenders. The whole box consisted of one small tender and a nugget. The only positive takeaway from this experience was that the fries were good. I can not in good conscience recommend this restaurant for takeout or DoorDash deliveries. I came here last year and it was absolutely delicious so I obviously had to come back again. I ordered the surf city burger with fries and it was delicious! The staff were also very friendly every time we've been there. There is also plenty of seating inside or outside to choose from depending on the weather. This is one of my favorite spots to eat and I look forward to going back again on my next vacation read more

What a fun, local spot! I was there with friends for the first time and sat at the bar. We were warmly greeted and given menus. It's a hot dog spot, you bet I'm going to order a hot dog! I ordered mine with onions and pickles with a side of fries. Being from the north, I'm used to Hummels or Grote and Weigel hot dogs with natural casings. I like to crunch into a hot dog. I was told the dogs were put on the flat top to achieve that crunch. I sipped on unsweetened iced tea and nibbled on my French fries-both were excellent! This is why I'm giving 4 stars and not 5- my hot dog was COLD? Not crispy, no snap or crunch. The service was perfect! I'll def go back but will request my hot dog to be crispy. read more

The environment of this quick stop is great!! Awesome customer service & super welcoming cashier w/ an amazing greeting. The food on the other hand was slightly subpar, just very bland & I believe no one in my family finished their food due to it being almost inedible.. slight exaggeration.. with the price we paid for our food- as ungrateful as I sound- it should've been more appetizing ($44 for two hot dogs & a burger w/ a side of wings). We came about 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon in late September and there was only a handful of other customers inside. The menu had a lot of interesting choices and I decided on the Topsail Burger which comes with chili, cheddar, and jalapeno (I added onions and mustard)...the burger itself was $11 and to add a side and drink was another $5...giving a little side eye here BUT food was very tasty. My husband got a less expensive meal by ordering the Boxer hotdog...which he said was the best thing he ate all week! He got fries with his which were great, while I got the homemade chips. They were very good as well but more crispy than I expected...literally homemade CHIPS (there is restaurant at home where their chips are different so I guess that's why I was expecting something different.) Service was fast and nice. I got a burger with a strawberry banana milkshake. The burger was OK, for the price it was definitely worth it but the strawberry milkshake was not worth the price. It didn't taste like it was made with actual fruit. Seemed more like it was made out of ice cream. Covid update: I went here a few days ago and due to new guildeines, they are not wearing or requiring masks or distancing. They do however keep you from getting your own sodas. I was sad to not be able to bring my daughter in (not vaccinated) - but that's the norm now, and this does not impact my review. The staff was friendly and informative - happy to give updates and a smile. My kids the fried chicken and quesadilla. The quesadilla was served with ketchup and had some sort of crumbles on top. It was okay, but not particularly great or inspired. The Fried chicken however was awesome (yeah, I stole a bite of both.) Personally I went with the hot dogs. They were good, ball park sized franks that were fairly juicy on a pretty standard bun. Toppings were fun, but again, nothing super inspired. A side of fries rounded out this fat big-kid's meal, and those were solid fluffy fries with a nice bit of crisp to them, even after sitting in a to-go container. Everyone else (three more people) got the Mahi Mahi sandwich. This was by far the biggest hit. I feel like you got a half the fish in each sandwich - it was huge. The mayo-sauce on it had some zip, but was far from spicy - just very flavorful. I regret only getting to have a bit of my wife's. If I went back, this would have been my order. read more

Stopped in mid day on a Thursday afternoon. Beatrice was so kind and although she was the only one taking online orders, tending to folks in the building and those seated outside, she was tentative and friendly. Food was great. I got the Onslow burger and slaw. I ate my whole meal so obviously no complaints! Didn't have to wait long. The tables outside could have used a good scrub down as there was bird droppings and pooled water in the chairs from the rain the previous day but nothing napkins couldn't take care of. Got a Lab hotdog which I assumed would be spicy with pepper Jack and jalapeños but was actually really mild. Still a good hotdog though, not too small not costco size either. And a side of fries and Buffalo wings. While you can customize your dog quite a bit I think their menu could expand their selection and maybe focus more on hotdogs since that's supposed to the the main attraction. Service was counter service and self service so there were no issues as staff was friendly. Eat in area is cramped for space and difficult to manage a stroller if needed, but they do offer an outdoor patio. We ordered some sweet tea chicken tenders for my wife and kids, and I got a "Lab" hot dog. It was INCREDIBLE! I'm from Chicago, and am very particular about hot dogs, and this one was so good! Split top bun that was basted in butter and grilled crispy, clearly an all-beef hot dog grilled perfectly, topped with chili, pepper jack cheese, and diced jalapeños. The chicken tenders were super fresh, unique, and delicious too. Paired with some buffalo sauce and ranch, the sweetness from the tea contrasted beautifully.
