Our guide, Alan, was amazing from beginning to end. We booked two tours for 11 people. The rainforest tour was a slight hike in areas two hrs away from the city to Victoria. It was something different. The wine tour was to three different wineries that were all diverse in unique in its own way. We also utilized the shuttle service from the airport as well as to the ferry terminal. Alan's driving is soo smooth that those who have severe lit motion sickness didn't feel a thing in the giant shuttle. Alan was always on time for pick up and flexible for drop offs. I cannot express how easy it was working with this tour company. Also a shout out to Fatih who drove us to the ferry terminal. His driving was smooth and conversation was great! Had an excellent morning visiting Goldstream Provincial Park on the salmon run tour with Surfside Adventures. Alan was a terrific guide - knowledgeable, personable, and attentive! He provided prompt and safe pick up and made sure I saw all the key spots. He took what might be the best group photo of the vacation--a sunset photo at Beacon Hill Park. A tour like this is largely dependent upon the quality of the guide. Darwin is a true professional. He accommodated all our requests, and was personable and entertaining. We all had a great time. Second in importantce to the guide is the vehicle. We were in a large Chevy luxury SUV that was very comfortable. Darwin even used a headset to speak over the sound system so back row passengers could hear with no problem. 5 Stars! Incredible all-day tour of forests, lakes, beaches, and hidden quirks my husband and I would never have known to look for, let alone reach. Darwin picked us up from our hotel in an immaculate well-equipped SUV, kept us entertained and educated throughout, knew exactly where and offered to take best pictures of us, and led us on amazing hikes through forests and beaches (my watch said +18K steps!). Absolute highlight of our brief trip to Vancouver Island. Darwin has tons of local knowledge and is very good at gauging client needs on the fly while sticking to a schedule. My husband and I booked this company when our cruise ship docked in Victoria, BC last month, and Darwin provided outstanding customer service and a great tour of the city and Buschart Gardens. Going above and beyond, he even suggested (and made a reservation for us) at a restaurant that overlooked the water and the city--beautiful view, and then waited to take us back to the dock after dinner. Darwin was great and so easy to arrange a kayak rental with in the beautiful Gorge area. Would definitely recommend them for tours or rentals. He arrived early for drop off, and early for pickup, and helped inform us how to navigate the high quality, comfortable kayaks for a more enjoyable trip. We even saw a seal sun bathing along our journey, a nice highlight. Love that there are options on where to go for the rentals (lakes, ocean, river waterways). Surfside adventure tours was great to work with from the start. Darwin was very easy to communicate with over email to book our tour. We decided on a Cowichan Valley wine tour. He picked a few vineyards for us, all based on feedback from previous tours, which was great. They all had delicious wines, and each was a bit different, which was nice, one more of a farm feel, one had a super modern flair. He knew a lot about Vancouver Island and stopped at some viewpoints along the way. My friends and I were super "efficient" with our wine tasting, and rather than bring us home early, Darwin offered us a few options of going to another winery, a chocolate shop, or see a couple of castles around the island that we had expressed interest in. They also offer hiking tours, which seemed like a blast, the mountains on the island are beautiful, so I would consider that for our next trip out there. I really have no complaints about the tour. When Our cruise ship stopped in Victoria , BC we were just going to walk around on our own when Darwin pleasantly approached us, offering a tour. "Two Hour Luxury City Tour". I was on a cruise that was only in Victoria for 4 hours and wanted to get the most out of seeing it. We were only 3 people, but I noticed that this independent tour was about the same price for 6 or 7 people as the cruise ship's similar tour was for the 3 people! Although the 3 of us would have been fine in that big vehicle, I had nothing to lose to book this tour for 6 or 7 people knowing that I would meet other people during the cruise that would want to go. If I didn't meet others I would still be paying the same price for the 3 of us as on the ship. I easily met 3 people that wanted to go, so we ended up with 6, and split the cost between us. It was so much nicer to have our own driver and be able to spend as much or as little time at the places WE wanted to go to that the driver suggested. The vehicle, a luxury SUV, looked brand new, comfortable, air conditioned, and had tall windows for viewing. The driver, Darwin, had a microphone for his narrative so everyone could hear.. Very informative and interesting. He picked us up from the ship at the time we designated (9:30am), and he was there holding his sign with our name...the first person we saw when getting off the ship. We were originally going to have him drop us downtown to shop after the tour, but we were having so much fun that we added an hour to our two-hour tour and he dropped us back at the ship. Since downtown is not within walking distance of the ship, we would have to find a cab or take the ship shuttle at an additional cost, and didn't know where we could buy tickets for the ship shuttle. It was easier to skip the shopping and take the tour SUV back to the ship. Darwin would have waited for us to shop if we had wanted to use that extra hour for shopping, but we didn't. The cost of the extra hour was only an extra $15 per person, so well worth it, and you don't have to decide in advance. He took us back to the ship at 12:30pm and the ship sailed at 1:30pm. I highly recommend this personalized tour! By the way, the cost you see online is in Canadian dollars, not US dollars. $225 in Canada dollars is $178 in US dollars, more economical for the US people. The cost was about $29 US per person for the 6 of us. A good value! Darwin was exceptionally nice, thoughtful, and attentive driver (the owner of the company). read more
