I wish I would have read the reviews from tenants prior to using Surfside for managing my property. This company is as indicated in all the posts. A slipshod front posing as a legitimate business. I was also fraud by their technique of being charged along with the tenants for work on the property. What's worse is they hire woefully unqualified people to do work and or repairs, and when there is damage, their claim is doing me a favor and can't be held responsible. I'm aware of all the people who work or had worked in this office: michael (no longer works there), Shannon and Nicole. They seem to use this technique of double dipping (charging the tenants and the landlord) they are full of excuses for their bad behavior, and I believe, full of s@it as well. The shame of it all is that the owner Barbera, is either complicit or just asleep at the wheel, either way the children have taken over the candy store. Some moron (and I'm saying this kindly) was at 890 Turtle Pond Way today inspecting or surveying presumably for your company. He tore up my cherry hedge and left the mess. I hope he was able to accomplish what he had to do at my expense. Someone can come out and repair/clean up the damage. Coincidentally I was out this entire morning cleaning out the hedge. read more

Don't rent from 1760 Ardmore St. NE, Palm Bay. I rented for 2yrs from the previous prop. mgmt company, who switched to Surfside. Sadly for Surfside, they brought along the same Realtor. As in previous reviews, they only seem to be concerned with themselves (i.e, the landlords). Realtor Michael Copeland is a prime example of that behavior on all levels. Michael knowingly allowed the landlord's father to "maintain" the yard, which essentially meant to rarely show (for a service that was included in the rent) while taking pictures of the house if he did. I emailed my concerns, which rarely received a response, especially the emails regarding reimbursement. When we moved in, it was filthy, paint in bad shape, tile floor grout black, septic backing up into the sinks, no secure lock on French doors & several windows (someone tried to break in once, which just added to the mess), & screens torn in screened porch amongst other things. Not to mention the landlord left junk in the garage & back porch (the landlord was the previous resident). The house also had NO blinds, but we were required to have blinds/curtains up at our expense. During my tenancy, I fixed the items they neglected to address. Only twice did I receive reimbursement, which was for the screens & hurricane-fence damage (only the 1st hurricane). After several email complaints & no-show lawn service, Michael/landlord, hired the lawn guy across the street (John), who informed me that the previous lawnguy was the landlord's father, which made sense of his spying on the house & mostly the no service. A few months back, John disappeared for over a month & said the landlord's father took over. I sent an email, like I sent a year prior, asking for new service & reimbursement for no service. Within a day, I got a text from John saying "thanks" & he'll cut the grass that week. No word from Michael; no reimbursement, nothing, as usual. We always paid rent on time, reported problems (which rarely were addressed if not never), cooperated with their annual inspections if they showed, which there were never problems of our doing & any problems were never addressed. But we were complimented by the inspector (not Michael) for keeping the house in great shape & planting grass in the backyard that was dirt & weeds when we moved in. As for vacating, we packed up, cleaned the floors, painted the spots that were needing paint prior to moving in since all signs pointed to Michael taking/stealing money any way that he could. So in hopes of saving our deposit, we left the house in better condition than we received it & with our expensive blinds installed. In my 30-day notice, I stated that we'd be out by the end of the month (12/2017). He replied on January 2nd asking if we left & returned the keys to the office. I replied that we vacated & the lease just said "turn keys in," so we left them on the counter. Being proactive as he has been (sarcasm), not even acknowledging our vacating notice until 32-days later, he said I should have asked & "dropped (the keys) off at the office they were picked up at." Well that office closed when they switched to Surfside. To be kind I gave the code to the garage if they needed. Michael had the audacity to say that we left the back porch dirty with "personal belongings." The junk that was there belonged to the landlord. In addition that porch is always dirty due to the wind blowing dirt/rain into the screen porch daily & it was stormy before & after we left. We have not received our deposit & I'm sure that that thief will impose a claim on it even though my well documented claims of basically stealing, in addition to improvements we made, were mentioned as a reminder to him. It's been 30-days now & no check. I'm sure they will reply to this with some nonsense to justify or deny their wrongdoings & focus the blame reverse the negative rating onto me. But hey, I'm not the one with 2.5 stars, or less after this is posted. Stay away from these thieves. They only work for themselves & the landlords & don't care about the tenants. read more

I have literally ZERO positive things to say about this company. It is an absolute disgrace that they have remained in business. Unfortunately, I got trapped with them after my owner changed property management companies, otherwise I would have run screaming from these people. They will lie, cheat, and steal to get every last dime they can from the tenants. Everything will be twisted into somehow being the tenants fault so they can continue to pump you for money for their poorly maintained properties. If you think that's bad, it only gets worse. Micromanagement won't stop when you leave work. Your lease (if they don't 'lose' it first) will outline a outrageous list of demands, detailing what you can and can't do while you live in THEIR home. This goes far beyond a simple hey, don't smoke here. It has things like "Avoid excessive indoor plants" and "All indoor plants must be watered outside." Expect regular visits to 'inspect the property'. Multiple occasions, I came home from work and had the distinct feeling someone had been in my home (things moved around, trash in the can I didn't recognize). This happened so many times that I eventually purchased a nanny cam to feel safe. Everything that these people present to you is a front. Even all their glowing facebook reviews are fake. If you do even a little bit of digging, you will realize they are all by friends of people that work there. They will find any excuse to rob you blind with fake fees and unethical scams. The review Shannon has been waiting for. I wish we read the reviews before moving in. Awful management like all the other reviews say. The house was awful as well. Unfortunately we rented 850 Koloa Drive. The first issue we encountered was the house not being cleaned at all when we moved in, we didn't make big deal out of it. Through deep cleaning the house we realized how poorly renovated it was, closet doors not properly put on, cabinet drawers not properly put on, the "third bedroom" was none livable unless you like to 85 degree weather in your bedroom and bugs coming in through the door that leads to the back yard, since it does not close properly. The first big issue that happened was the ceiling completely collapsing in the garage, instead of Shannon making sure all tenants were ok, she nicely blamed us of being in the attic, when we would NEVER have a reason to go in the attic. When the maintenance guy came to fix the ceiling he could see into the living spaces, and he saw that there was barley any insulation put in. Leading us to finally understanding why the house could never keep up to the temperature the AC was set at. Even with a new AC unit. When I had to run the heat one week because it was 50 degrees outside, it was still cold inside. I emailed Shannon and she told me I had to constantly run the AC which that's normally not how things work. Every time we changed the AC filters it would be dirty after a week due to poor insulation. The AC vents would constantly drip and were growing mold. Now let's talk about the lovely Shannon we all adore... also Nicole. Overall unprofessional communication skills, I believe you should go take a communications class Shannon. If you don't respond to Shannon quick enough in email she will call and text your phone, but when you email her good luck getting a response quick. Shannon was always vacation supposedly when there was an issue. If Shannon did not like your maintenance request she would just close it out. We requested for a service animal to be on the lease and never got a response after she asked us to pay her and we refused, by law are not required to pay a dog fee. Shannon likes to make up her own prices when it comes to having a pet on the property, our roommate paid $500 for a 4lb dog, while she asked us to pay $200 or $400 depending how much the dog weighed. There is a lot more to Shannon but that is just glimpse of dealing with Surfside and their properties. Moral of the story don't deal with Surfside. If there was no star to give that would be more appropriate! I found an apartment and asked for one year lease - signed the lease...stupid me, without reading the fine print ..and they had made it a two year lease! No one sat down with me to go over the lease, it was sent via email. When I got into the condo, they started scheduling inspections every 4 months - someone coming into your place and taking pictures!! Then claimed that you signed an agreement - the agreement merely states that they can inspect the property. Horrible experience!!! trying to get out of lease now! We were looking for a rental for a year and had contacted this agency on the advice of another realtor. They were responsive by email and assured me that they would set up appointments for us on some identified properties. I called them when we arrived and was told some appointments had been made for the next day between 1:00 and 4:00, and that they would call to tell uwhere to meet. At 12:00 I called to check and it went to voice mail, so I left a message. I never heard from another soul at the agency for a solid week. We flew down specifically to view these properties. There are realtors and property managers on every street corner. Don't bother with this one. We ended up finding a place on Craig's list - no fees, no hassles, better pricing. read more
