My family and I have visited this park several times, and we absolutely love it. We honestly wish every community had a park like this. There's so much to enjoy in one area--a nearby library, a beautiful pond filled with ducks and fish, and plenty of open grassy spaces perfect for relaxing or having a picnic. There are also benches and covered seating areas, which make it easy to spend a good amount of time there comfortably. The park is very family-friendly, with a playground, pickleball courts, a volleyball area, and even two separate dog parks--one for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. Nearby, there's also a community pool and a sports area where you can play games like baseball. They also host festivals throughout the year, and during Christmas, the decorations are especially beautiful and add a nice festive touch. Parking is convenient and free, which is a huge plus. Great park for the dogs to run. Love that there's a large dog side and a small dog side. Double dog doors for safety, fresh water for dogs. The only down side with the dog park is when the Christmas decorations and lights were taken down, the zip ties were simply cut off lights and left behind. I have a puppy so I'm spending time picking up zip tie ends. That's wasn't very cool. February and still picking up zip tie pieces left behind. Some people ignore dog size signs which can be dangerous and patrol is very slow to respond. Beautiful area to fish, walk, bbq, huge park for the kids. Plenty of parking, bathrooms are pretty well kept up. We go here daily. We're very fortunate to have such a wonderful park. read more

Recently attended the Water Lantern Festival event here and I enjoyed it so much. Nice clean park within the community. Plenty of shaded areas to lounge around with friends and your pet on the grass, have a picnic, or take a lengthy walk around the duck pond. Went to a baby shower here yesterday and was totally impressed with this park! It has beautiful spacious gazebos for events, a fabulous playground for the kiddies, pickleball courts, and more, all around a lovely lake. The lawns are manicured, and studded with interesting sculptures. The walking paths are wide and level, the bathrooms are clean, and it is an altogether lovely place for a family outing, or just for a peaceful stroll by yourself. Our family absolutely love Surprises Community Park. We love how active the city is and appreciate the time and care they take to make this park so special. During the winter season the park is such a fun experience for photo ops, beautiful installations to see, and fun interactive things to explore. Surprise Community Park surprisingly is very large. There is a huge pond with ducks, geese, fishes, turtles. There's picnic areas with bbq grills and clean restrooms. The toilet paper rolls are locked in so one cannot steal the rolls. There's swings, a dog park for large dogs and a separate park for small dogs. They have really done a lot to improve the commu itt park, landscaping, art, adding a second restroom across the park from the other, right now they are redoing the playground. It looks like it is going to be super fun. Our girls grew up here since birth. It has been our go-to for family walks and play. Not as many geese as they used to have. That is intentional, I believe. Our homeschool group has been meeting here since 1999. For 2 hours one day a week when school is in season. All the sudden the park Rangers feel like we are displacing the community. I learned about the group from taking one of our older daughters there years ago and meeting these wonderful families with wonderful kids. My neighbors come when our group meets so their young children not quite school age, can play with other children. We are working with the city now as they want to start charging us a lot of money to meet. We aren't there long, and we meet when all the other kids are in school. The city is hurting for money right now. Maybe from all the renovations. We have so much condensed housing and new homes I would hope taxes would help cover all that. Hoping for a future here for our group. Enjoying all the upgrades and changes in the meantime. Fingers crossed! read more

I love this park. Only complaint is the pickle ball courts. I homeschool my son and thought this would be a great way to exercise for him. Even bought pickle ball equipment. Never once have we been able to play. It's always packed. Even during school hours. Every time we go to play there is a tournament or it's just absolutely packed. read more

Surprise Community Park is a great place to walk around. It's small enough that it's not too overwhelming for my 20 month old and she loves looking at all of the ducks, coots, and geese in the pond. We take her here on a regular basis to get some fresh air. It's also a great place to play Pokemon Go. It's been so nice to have this park, especially during the pandemic where we are so limited as to where we can go that is safe. Overall it's a really nice area. read more

Racist, rude, and down right a..hole. The Park ranger ask me for my fishing license so I provided it. Then he asked me odd personal questions of how I was able to own a nice truck and be disabled. Then he asked me for my driver's license and after showing him he forcefully grabbed it out of hand again as if he was giving me a ticket ( very rude). Meanwhile he let the Caucasian father and son go with a warning that we're fishing next to me. I fought for this country in several wars and this is what I have to come to. This is one of the best parks in Surprise with baseball fields, tennis courts, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, pickle ball, tons of sidewalks for walking, and tons of grass and picnic tables for a picnic or just enjoying the weather. Today we spent hours looking for the surprise (AZ) painted rocks. My kids are obsessed and there are so many places to hide them here. My only complaint is the amount of geese and duck poop all over the sidewalks and grass. It's disgusting and smells in certain areas near the lake. The park area is always clean, and my youngest always makes friends the second he steps on the playground. They seem to be doing a lot of improvement as well. There were a lot of workers in fenced off areas. If you walk a bit farther down the street you can visit city hall or swim at the community pool when it's open. Cross the street to Surprise stadium and catch a ball game. read more

One of the best places in Surprise to watch the sun set :) No matter the time of year, this is a great place to spend some time outdoors for the entire family! Again, another perk of living in a brand spanking "new" development such as Surprise. This place is so way out there that the city makes its amenities just lovely for it's residents. I went fishing here during my Thanksgiving visit! Yes, FISHING! The AZ state fish and game have a urban fishing program and this lake is stocked with farm raished and ready to eat fish....if you can catch them. It has a very large playground area, a library, picnic tables and of course a lake to fish at. And it's across the street from the stadium. When the little kids were bored with fishing they would run over to the playground. When we got too hot, we'd go inside the Library. We spent the whole day there picnicing and fishing with 3 young kids and nobody complained or had a bad time. Tips: If you're fishing, bring your own chairs as the ones right by the lake have duck crap all over them. Not much shade so I suspect the summer months out in this park are brutal. read more

Big lake for fishing, nice pathways, 2 huge dog parks that are all grass and well maintained, and a couple fields for activities. Also a nice childrens playground and basketball/tennis courts. Intro- Beautiful Park! In summer evenings, I don't visit much anymore, due to 110 degree heat. BUT in Spring and Fall, It is the perfect place to be! PROS- I'll go in order of best time to be. Early Morning/Sunrise 6- 8 AM. Nobody is there, a perfect place to jog, take the toddlers/infants to the playground before it goes insane or to get your fishing stuff ready! It is also a great time to feed the ducks and bird watch. Morning 8-10 AM: Great time to take your dogs to the dog park, get the 5-7 year olds to the playground, start a heavy exercise regimen, or to just sit back and relax on the grassy hills. Early Afternoon 10-11 AM- Things heat up here. Get all of the toddlers or elderly people home at this time. If you want to take your kids to the play ground here, I suggest 6-9 year olds, since they have more capacity. A time to take large dogs to the dog park, to play volleyball/basketball, to fish or to simply play in the mister towers. (Yes they are fixed again!) Afternoon 12- 2 pm. A time just for Adults to do whatever they want. Socialize, host gatherings or have a water fight. Late afternoon 3- 5 pm Heat of the day. I advise NOBODY be out at this time, due to heat waves, monsoons and dust storms. Evening 6-8 pm Perfect time to get the tweens/teens out 12-16 year olds would be PERFECT at this time. Resume fishing, playing in the playground, hosting parties or bird watching. Night 9-10 pm. A time for everybody to be out, yet wind down at the same time. A time to clean up, get ready to go back home. Cook up and eat your catch of the day, and take your dogs for a bath. It is imperative that No toddlers ages 1- 10 be out, due to stranger danger 12-16 yr olds are welcome, with heavy supervision. Wrap everything up and go home immediately for dinner and bed. CONS- Too many people, less janitors, barely any police supervision. DUCK CRAP EVERYWHERE!!!!!! Overall a GREAT place to be! Watch your kids around heat and water! read more
