Taro ice cream and bubble tea

Surreal Creamery - A Sweet, Joyful Surprise in Bryn Mawr! This place is amazing! The combinations of ice cream are unlike anything I've ever seen -- creative, decadent, and just plain fun. The servings are generous, the flavors are delicious, and the presentation is a total wow. My wife and I had a coffee-based ice cream topped with white chocolate (incredible!), and our friend went for the taro bubble tea and loved it. Everyone left smiling from ear to ear. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe was welcoming. I'm honestly surprised the shop isn't bigger given how great the treats are. Sure, it may not help the diet -- but it definitely helps the soul! If you're anywhere near Lancaster Avenue, stop in and treat yourself. You'll be glad you did.

Custom mason jar with blue monster ice cream, caramel waffle, Oreo, boba, and lychee jelly
    Karen T.

Very pretty to look at and probably great for instagram but the (blue monster) ice cream itself is not particularly noteworthy. It is a lot of ice cream and they top off the mason jar, which makes the high price tag slightly less painful. It is great to get once in awhile but a bit too much to get regularly. We built our own and got boba, lychee jelly, Oreos and caramel wafer as our add ins. A bit unusual combo but it was kind of interesting to have drink toppings in the ice cream. Located in a small plaza with a couple of parking spots on the side. Line moves quickly and very well staffed. You can get a slight discount by bringing back your mason jar.

Thai Milk Bubble Tea w/ Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream Flotea: Aesthetic but tasted mediocre
    Leta Z.

I came across Surreal Creamery on social media and was drawn to how aesthetic the floteas looked (a combination of bubble tea and ice cream). As a bubble tea lover, I had to try it. This place is extremely popular. Even when I went on a late Sunday evening in the summer, the line wrapped around the small shop several times. My husband and I ordered a Thai Milk Bubble Tea w/ Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream Flotea. It looked very aesthetic but tasted very mediocre. The thai milk tea tasted very generic, like the kind that's made with powder, but the vietnamese iced coffee ice cream tasted a bit better. Would I go back? : Bryn Mawr is pretty out of the way so probably not. If you're in the area, I think it's worth trying once but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

    The Nom Nom Cookie

I got the Nom Nom Cookie. It was blue soft serve topped with crispy chocolate chip cookies, marshmallows, oreos, and chocolate sauce. The soft serve itself wasn't that flavorful. Tasted pretty much like frozen water. I'd like a higher fat content. The toppings worked. Lots of sugary, salty, crunchiness.

Earl grey and vietnamese iced coffee swirl

I've had soft serve before but not this good. But let's start at the beginning. I walked up to this place and it's packed. It's a small shop with a plethora of flavors, options, and toppings. Once I finally pick my regular cup of earl grey and vietnamese coffee (you can opt for a mason jar for just $1 more if you want a mason jar), I was blown away. The sheer amount of soft serve to consume in one sitting is absolutely astounding. If you love soft serve or ice cream, this one is for you. Otherwise, I'd opt for the kids cup (no shame in that). But the flavors are so true to their name, I regret not having Surreal earlier. The early grey tastes exactly like vanilla but with a hint of earl grey that isn't overwhelming nor too subtle. The vietnamese coffee tastes exactly like vietnamese coffee in soft serve form. I tried the cookie monster flavor I think, which is blue and it tastes like cookies. It absolutely blew me away as to how the flavors are replicated so well. I'd highly recommend coming here just for a sweet treat, even if you're lactose intolerant. You won't regret sacrificing your insides just for this!!

How did I not know this is practically in my backyard?! What a delicious find. They have a massive selection of soft serve flavors, shakes, Boba, and other creations in mason jars.loads of toppings, you get the gist. Prices could be deemed higher for ice cream but portions are also comparable. I ordered the smallest size of taro softserve in a cup and it was easily enough for my bf and I. I cant wait wait to return. FYI - parking is super limited.

For us this was probably a 3 to 4 star experience *but* they deliver on what they advertise so we're giving them a 5 star as people looking for this will probably adore it. We were really looking for someplace to relax with coffee, tea, and maybe some dessert when we landed here. The young man behind the counter was very patient and helpful as we were not familiar with what they were about. He offered us a trial of the earl grey and mocha and we really liked it so we ordered a kid's cup and one of their fancy iced teas. We then had to pick up to 4 treats to put on the ice cream so my dining partner chose a couple and we were done ordering. The tea was excellent. The ice cream was really pretty and tasted good, but it was a bit too sweet for us. It's a beautiful sweet expensive treat. We can see why it will be so popular as it's a IG experience.

I love Surreal Creamery's treats!! The boba flotea is absolutely delicious, and I like how you can customize it. I got Thai milk tea with Vietnamese iced coffee soft serve, and the flavors paired really nicely! A few "warnings"--they're super popular and had a long line when I went. Also, the only available size is massive, and I wound up not sleeping super well due to being stuffed + the caffeine, haha. I've gotten a flotea at another location and shared it, which was the right call :) Would highly recommend coming here for a sweet treat!

Disclaimer: review for bubble tea only. Being had a high review and my daughter said it's a good place we came in to order Vietnamese coffee with boba and Thai milk tea. Customer service was good. It was not busy when we came in until after we ordered. When we got our order we grabbed a table to hang out. My daughter is usually happy when you get her boba. She gave me that look and said papa can you taste this? So of course I had to. Sure enough, the Thai tea tasted sour and citrus flavor. Far from Asian Thai tea. Not sure if this is their recipe but if I was to guess it tasted spoiled. So I asked the one-man team lady about getting a replacement for my daughter's Thai tea with brown sugar boba tea instead and great customer service because she replaced it right away. Problem sold. But for my Vietnamese coffee boba let me just say I'll order it from next door. Side note.

This was our first visit as we were in the area and I had this bookmarked! Place was empty on a Monday around 1:00pm. The staff greeted us, and we took a look at the menu. They have a lot of preset selections for the Flo-teas which are the ice cream swirl + boba . We opted to make our own! We chose brown sugar boba and Earl grey /Vietnamese coffee ice cream which came to appx $11 with tax. The price is pretty steep imo but I will say that it was decadent, delicious , and worth a try ! Not something I would get regularly but it was definitely worth trying. The boba was very good, great flavor on the tea and good texture boba. Both of the ice cream flavors were delicious , you could really taste the Earl grey in the tea swirl 4 yelps mostly due to the price/value - great service and taste

Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha/Taro Swirled Ice Cream Flotea
    Jenny G.

I was super excited to try Surreal because of the novelty, but the Flotea that we tried wasn't out of this world. We had no regrets trying it, but if we go back we would probably only get the ice cream. We ordered a Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha/Taro Swirled Ice Cream Flotea. The waffle was great - eggy and sweet! The ice cream was very mild - we barely tasted the matcha flavor and the taro tasted like vanilla. The part of the ice cream that hit the bubble tea turned icy (like slush), so it was not enjoyable to eat. Our least favorite part was definitely the taro bubble tea. It was very bland - tasted only of watered down tea, there was no taro flavoring. Although the boba had good texture, it was also bland.

The first thing I like about Kung Fu is the variety of beverages that you can get, from traditional teas and fruit-based ones, to regular to frozen milk teas and coffeehouse creations they have it all. And then you can even add even more customization to the option that you choose from. No matter what I always add the boba! But I've had a caramel macchiato latte tea that rivaled the lattes that I've gotten at most coffeehouses, fruit teas with jelly bubbles that BURST of tropical fruits once they hit my mouth, and a sesame matcha milkstrike tea that was as savory as it was sweet! For most bubble tea spaces you're only limited to ordering beverages. But Kung Fu Tea also has a pretty good food menu on top of their drink options. The main attraction is their onigiri rice balls that either come traditional or loaded with things like spam, teriyaki beef, shrimp tempura, and spicy crab. They also have a spicy and crunchy karaage popcorn chicken, and super delicious takoyaki balls.

The upside is that it was inexpensive, which is what drew me there in the first place. My very first time eating there in March 2026. I'll start with the good: the Hong Kong wonton soup, the egg drop soup, & the beef chow fun. I would return for these items. The bad: the duck rolls, the shrimp with lobster sauce. The duck rolls, I took one bite, and that was enough. The duck was dry, it didn't have good flavor, I'm not sure if it was particularly fresh. It tasted like it could be the duck that's about to be shrink. The shrimp in lobster sauce was the worst I've ever had. Absolutely no taste. I do not use condiments and I had to put soy sauce in it. I have hypertension, I do not use soy sauce! I had to use it to choke it down. That was the most expensive dish and almost $17 so no way that was being wasted. And there was barely any shrimp in it. The ugly: The egg roll & crispy fried noodles. The oil must be very old. The egg roll was so dark and soft with oil that the oil was dripping off of it and filling the little wax paper bag. The noodles were also too dark and tasted gross like being fried and old oil. I would never get anything fried from this place ever.

Though we hadn't been there in years, Golden Bowl came to mind. Consensus: we spent a bit more than we usually do, but the food was a couple of notches better. As a point of comparison, we ordered our usual soups: hot & sour and egg-drop wonton. Hot & sour was thick and spicy. (To temper the heat, I cut my serving with spoonfuls of egg-drop.) Wontons were nicely filled and less doughy than our usual take-outs. Two thumbs up for the soup. Mongolian Beef is my husband's favorite. We both agreed that Golden Bowl's version is pretty good. Our other dish, Sizzling Triple Delight, is best eaten in the restaurant. Nothing was sizzling, but the components -- beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetables -- were well prepared. Broccoli was al dente and the brown sauce was rich and flavorful. All-in-all, branching out paid off. We'll most assuredly do it again.
