Try before you buy isn't really a moto for most wine and liquor. But I'm much more likely to purchase a more expensive product if I'm given the opportunity to try it before dropping $40+ on a bottle of wine. Their selection is very good, I can always find something that appeals to me even if I wasn't able to find the exact product that may be a bit more difficult to find like Jefferson's ocean barrel strength or tin cup 10 year. They are often running specials on different products so I always keep my eye out for good deals! I've seen upwards of $5 off a bottle which is cool. They always have box sets with glassware or special items if you're looking for a gift for someone. Parking here is the major downside however the big lot across the street by the firehouse always has open spots... Just a bit of a walk.

So when I first saw the sign for Wallace Dry Goods pop-up in the neighborhood, my interest was immediately piqued. And since then I've enjoyed a few visits including for an awesome Yelp event. For my first visit way back when Wallace pulled out all the stops for the Yelp squad walking us through delicious mocktails, n/a beers, and hosting an informative Q&A that gave a great preview of who they were and what they were about. That followed suit for the second time when I signed up for a curated N/A Beer testing that really opened my eyes to how far N/A beer has evolved when I was enjoying seasonal pumpkin beers, coffee stouts, and then some. All of this comes from someone who still enjoyed going out after quitting drinking, but definitely felt the pressures and wanted to do what they could to make N/A spirits more accessible. And as the place that distributes a number of N/A offerings to several bars & restaurants across the local area, they're definitely achieving that! Going inside gives you full access to that knowledge and the ability to pick up n/a beers, ciders, wines, spirits (including a line from Danny "Machete" Trejo!), and everything you need to up your drink making craft. While they're a retail space, they might have something on hand for you to sample, and you definitely want to check out their website to sign-up for any tasting events they have scheduled.

I tried a small pour of their Fiona, which is a nice and light winter-spiced beer. I also tried their gin and jam cocktail, which was potent with a nice hint of sweetness from the jam, but not overpoweringly so. We didn't order any food, but it was nice to chit-chat with the bartenders. The space is cozy and chill in contrast to the Fermentaria's bustling atmosphere.

I stumbled across with internet brewery exploration Tired Hands and immediately fell in love with their swag. So for a while now I've been purchasing t shirts and hoodies through their online store. It wasn't until just recently I had the opportunity to try two of their beers in which Steve and I both enjoyed considerably. To start we got the Trendler Dopplebock which had a delightful caramel, toffee and malty flavors in the beer which made the beer pretty enjoyable to drink. The beer we really liked however was a session stout, a type of stout that you don't come across very often. This beer was called the Crushable Void which had a great smooth, roasty, creamy and malty flavors with a low ABV . Like all session beers they are made to drink at a slow pace throughout the day and this stout definitely fits into that category nicely. *Update* Thanks to a fellow Yelper there is another Tired Hands location that remains open under a separate Yelp entry, the Tired Hands Fermentaria remains open. Compared to spots like the Beer Yard, Kunda Bev, and some distributors that you'll find in the city; Ardmore Park does leave a bit to be desired in selection. But they're consistent with the offerings that they bring in, and often times sell cases at the better price point compared to their competitors. And when you can't find something that they've sold previously they do a good job of bringing in during a future shipment.
