Since local Chinese-American take-outs range from 'okay' to nothing more than 'a-little-better-than-okay,' I thought we'd try ordering instead from a restaurant. Though we hadn't been there in years, Golden Bowl came to mind. Consensus: we spent a bit more than we usually do, but the food was a couple of notches better. As a point of comparison, we ordered our usual soups: hot & sour and egg-drop wonton. Hot & sour was thick and spicy. (To temper the heat, I cut my serving with spoonfuls of egg-drop.) Wontons were nicely filled and less doughy than our usual take-outs. Two thumbs up for the soup. Mongolian Beef is my husband's favorite. We both agreed that Golden Bowl's version is pretty good. Our other dish, Sizzling Triple Delight, is best eaten in the restaurant. Nothing was sizzling, but the components -- beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetables -- were well prepared. Broccoli was al dente and the brown sauce was rich and flavorful. All-in-all, branching out paid off. We'll most assuredly do it again. read more

I'm giving it four stars because I will return for very specific things, it really is more of a 3 to 3 1/2 star. Very inconsistent. The upside is that it was inexpensive, which is what drew me there in the first place. My very first time eating there in March 2026. I'll start with the good: the Hong Kong wonton soup, the egg drop soup, & the beef chow fun. I would return for these items. The bad: the duck rolls, the shrimp with lobster sauce. The duck rolls, I took one bite, and that was enough. The duck was dry, it didn't have good flavor, I'm not sure if it was particularly fresh. It tasted like it could be the duck that's about to be shrink. The shrimp in lobster sauce was the worst I've ever had. Absolutely no taste. I do not use condiments and I had to put soy sauce in it. I have hypertension, I do not use soy sauce! I had to use it to choke it down. That was the most expensive dish and almost $17 so no way that was being wasted. And there was barely any shrimp in it. The ugly: The egg roll & crispy fried noodles. The oil must be very old. The egg roll was so dark and soft with oil that the oil was dripping off of it and filling the little wax paper bag. The noodles were also too dark and tasted gross like being fried and old oil. I would never get anything fried from this place ever. read more

Amazing service! The woman on the phone was more than happy to take my order as well as answer any questions I had. She even called me back to ensure they had the correct address instead of delivering to the incorrect house. I was told it'd be 30 minutes for my order to arrive; it came in maybe 15-20 minutes. I only bought the classic chicken fried rice pint, but the quality and taste did not disappoint. It arrived hot and fresh, and the flavor was incredible. 10/10 highly recommend :) read more

There's truly nothing better than a go-to lunch spot conveniently located to work. Luckily for me, Golden Bowl is up the street! I don't know why I've been holding out for so long, it's DELICIOUS! The restaurant looks very clean and well kept and is a great bang for your buck! This meal lasted me a solid 3 lunches. The menu is filled with a flowing list of Chinese classics, which made my decision making extra tough for my first time experience. A classic orange chicken? Lo mein? Fried Rice? Do I pivot and try a big ol pork noodle soup instead?! I ultimately opted for the orange chicken, pork lo mein, and an egg roll. The orange chicken, overall, was good! The only thing I didn't particularly enjoy was the plethora of orange rind, causing an overly bitter flavor. The pork lo mein was sooo tasty. If you like a very saucy lo mein, this one is for you. The egg roll was perfectly crispy, brown- just the way I prefer it. The one downside, is they do not offer an online ordering option, which just feels very outdated and annoying- especially during the work day, but the turn around time is pretty quick. That surely won't stop me from returning. I think next time, I'll splurge and dine in. read more

This is one of my family's favorite take-out restaurant. We order here often when my mom is too tired to cook, or after busy days, and the food always lightens up the mood. It stays open until late, and is at a very convenient location. The prices are decent, compared to other restaurants in the area. For example, the duck fried rice is only about 11 dollars, FOR A QUART! This is an insanely cheap price, because it feeds 2 people. The food is also delicious. The duck fried rice, although a bit too oily, has a very flavorful aroma, and an umami taste. I also love the Beef Hefan and walnut shrimp. read more

Came here as fried rice is comfort food for me. Since moving from the west coast I hadn't found true Wok fried rice. I got shrimp fried rice, small wonton soup and an egg roll. It was about $19 before tip. The restaurant was nice and clean. I went at a non busy time and dinned in. It was nice and quiet. The staff was very nice The wonton soup and egg roll were good as apps, everything was hot and good. The fried rice was my fave style with eggs and scallion (I hate peas and carrots). Ample shrimp and made fresh in good old seasoned wok. I'll def be back here! read more

Loved it! Quality chinese dishes abundant here. Try the roast duck, a fried rice dish (you choose your meat/s), and don't forget the house special fried noodles. Wash all of it down with the refillable hot tea provided to you. You will experience fanstsstic waiter service. They will check on you every 10 mins or so (just to see if you need anything, refill your water, etc). Excellent quality Chinese food. Food was fresh but just okay. We wanted Chinese but wanted to try something different. We were out in ARdmore and this place has really good reviews so we decided to check it out. It's very clean inside, service was fast and employees were nice. Prices were a bit more than we usually pay for chinese take out but that was fine. The servings were a good enough size. I had general Tsos and my kids both had shrimp fried rice. We had enough to have leftovers. The cuts of chicken were great, a really nice size but there really wasn't enough flavor in the food. The soysauce helped a bit but my general tsos came with sauce and that wasnt really flavored. I did request light spice but there was no spice at all. Not sure if I would go back, if I would I guess I would request salt and pepper. My neighborhood chinese take out was much better than this. read more

This restaurant will fulfill your "real" Chinese food cravings if you can't make it to Chinatown. Where it does lack flavor, it does do the job. They have everything from Peking duck, to lobster and Chinese vegetables. The plus side is that it's not as expensive as Chinatown, but the portions are also smaller. I love this place!!! I've dined in when it was allowed and the service is great. The food is on point! Not just your average Chinese takeout store. It's a bit more authentic as the prices and dish sizes show it. Well worth it. My favorite dish is the Roast Pork Noodle Soup. $10 for a nice size bowl. The fried rice is really good too. Highly recommend for takeout in the area. I almost forgot! They actually brought my food out to my car after I placed my order, payed inside and went to wait in my car. Went to Golden Bowl for the first time with my two friends Shelby and Lexi on a recommendation from a friend who lives in the area. He had told me it was the best place for wonton / ramen soup and that I needed to try it. I was craving Chiense so I thought it would be a good time to try Golden Bowl. I was very pleased with the entire experience. I normally do not give five stars because there is usually one thing that I wish went better or tasted better or whatever but Golden Bowl exceeded my expectations. The decor on the inside was very cute and comfortable. The staff was so kind and couldn't do enough for us, always checking up on our table and making sure we were happy with the food. We decided to order pork fried dumplings for us to share and I ordered a peaking duck wrap. Shelby also ordered a spring roll. The duck roll was one of the best I've ever had. And Shelby enjoyed the spring roll as well. The dumplings were delicious. Doughy, fresh and hot! Couldn't have asked for better ones. For my entree, I ordered the Hong Kong wonton noodle soup with shrimp and pork and throughly enjoyed it!! We also ordered the veggie fried rice for the table and that was great as well. I was really surprised by this place. The portions are huge. The prices are great. The food is excellent. I ordered the Honey Walnut Chicken. What comes is steaming hot, crisply fried, super tender chicken. The sauce is like a honey mustard mayo. Excellent. The candied walnuts add a welcome grittiness and bitterness to the otherwise sweet dish. The rice was well-executed, tender and dry (like most Chinese joints). A year later we finally tried giving them another chance and not only did the food take an hour and twenty minutes but they forgot part of our order and then told me to call back 10 minutes later. This place is a pretty good spot. I would say I liked it better than sang kee. We had the chicken dumplings, chicken with broccoli, chow fun and all were really good. We also had the Mongolian beef and the sauce was good but the meat was disgusting. I would definitely steer away from beef at this place. In an attempt to satisfy my Chinese food craving today, I enjoyed a delicious lunch special here. I dined in with my mom and sister and we were taken care of right away. Our waiter was friendly and took care of us very well; he even took the time to pack our leftovers into a bag for us. The food came out hot, fresh, and quite quickly since we had arrived at an early lunch hour. The lunch special portions were definitely worth the price and I ordered an Egg Roll, Cashew Nut Chicken, and Fried Rice. The pictures of the food don't even compare to the taste. For sure had to be overcooked. Sometimes fried hard is good but not this time. Spring rolls are dense! I've never had this style almost as if there was a patty made of cabbage then rolled with the chicken and shrimp added to it. The chicken lettuce wraps... you get a LOT of filling. Ask for extra hoisin sauce as it is lightly sauced and little spice or flavor. Not dry just weak saucing. Idk. Just ask for not hoisin. You will either make meaty wraps OR have plenty for leftovers. Warm it up with hoisin and chili paste to make it really slap. The winner of this smorgasbord--- CRISPY FLOUNDER FILLET!! Mango sauce is the biz! With a recommendation from a reliable source, and being down the street at Target and very hungry, we found this place with no problem, meter parked easy and went in. A nice lady took our take out order (trust me I like a lot of extras in my food) and got it right when she read it back. The wait was about 12-15 minutes and well worth it. We made another stop before going home and once home we found the food to still be quite warm. I'd go back when in the area and get the lunch special as that was plenty. read more

Pretty respectable Chinese cuisine, with a wide variety of items on the menu, ranging from Pad Thai to Miso Soup. Their price-to-food ratio is quite good. Most dishes run $10-15 and have giant portion sizes. We ordered 5 dishes for 7 people and a few appetizers, and had lots of food left over. I didn't find any specific dish particularly memorable. I generally liked how all large vegetable dishes had giant meaty mushrooms and large pieces of spongy tofu, but all of the sauces and flavoring tasted pretty much the same. When I first walked past this restaurant, I won't lie, I didn't think I would find authentic Chinese food here. Seemed too fancy and didn't have Chinese characters on the sign. But I was looking through the website and how they're slogan is "Eat in Hong Kong", which means they cook the food I know and love growing up. My boyfriend and I decided to give Golden Bowl a shot. We arrived for late dinner Friday night and looked through the menu and I was happy to find that there were many authentic Cantonese and HK options that you might not even easily find at Chinatown in Philly. We ended up over ordering but went with West Lake soup, 1/4 roast duck (leg portion), beef and radish stew in hot pot, and stir-fried pea sprouts in garlic. It blew me away - it felt like I was having a homemade meal and everything was nicely executed. Duck was crispy, soup was just as I know it to be, beef was well stewed, and pea sprouts were wonderfully stir-fried. I was able to converse with some of the wait staff and they speak Cantonese as well; they're committed to bringing the real deal to Ardmore that you're even hard pressed to find elsewhere. They have a different assortment from Sang Kee and they're not quite a seafood restaurant you'd find in NYC Chinatown but they have great dishes that are well priced and well worth the trip. Also the staff here seem to really try to make a connection with their customers. My takeaway: they'll do the Americanized Chinese dishes, the other Asian dishes (pad thai, whatever)... but this is an *authentic* Chinese restaurant. You need to go for the Cantonese dishes. Dim sum, roast dishes (duck, pork), hot pot casseroles, wonton noodle soup. Can't wait to come back and only wish I lived closer to here! read more
