The pricing seems a bit high when you first look over the menu, but once we saw the serving size, I suppose it makes sense (at least for us). The two of us were able to split the small matcha soft serve ice cream with cookie dough toppings ($9.60 total). The ambience isn't the best - it feels like half storefront, half stocking area in the back. The cold white interior isn't very inviting. There are a few cute Japanese/Korean style decor items and dolls, but something about the style of the interior just felt disjointed. A large group of around 12 students came in 10 minutes after us, and the younger crowd seems to enjoy the place.
Ice cream can't be a bad thing and this place is no exception. Creamy and delicious with toppers like graham crackers and peanut butter chips. The flavors are not traditional (ie earl grey, etc.)--no vanilla! They also have these little cakes and cookies. The stuff you come in for is good, but the place is physically in rough shape--water leaking from the ceiling into a bucket filled with a bunch of papers. No paper towels or air dryer in the bathroom. Kind of weird. Seating is on these little wooden stools and they have a few long wooden tables designed for groups. Staff people are pleasant enough but not extremely helpful or forthcoming. If they can get the place a bit neater and train their staff to make helpful suggestions it would be a better dining experience.
I have tried Taro ice creams at other locations and they tasted way better. This did not taste like Taro at all, in fact it really had no flavor, I was very disappointed... the color is even very light. I would not come back to this location. Also you get a lot of ice cream but almost $9 for this bland ice cream is way too much in my opinion.
Been here twice. The staff are very friendly. The first time we went there, they let us bring our dog in, even though they weren't really a pet-friendly joint. They gave him some whipped cream, too. For a small joint, the place has some decent seating. Most people come in and out. Definitely a great dessert spot after having a good meal in the area. You could even take their mason jars home. If you come back with the jar, you can get a discount off your purchase.
Great customer service! I got the tres leches cake jar, the man patiently answered my questions & let me customize it. The tres leches cake itself was dry considering tres leches is meant to be moist, but the flavors were good. $12 for the small size and you get to keep the jar!

If you are charging 11$ for a bubble tea ice cream from a machine, your counters should at least be clean and the floors shouldn't be disgusting. Really puts the quality and hygienic condition of the food into question
Have a ice cream craving? Want something more then standard? Have a lil extra money? Yes let's be real it's a bit more pricey then the grocery store finds but if you can try it out. You won't be disappointed. Treat yourself

As the name implies , this ice cream spot is surreal ! I came here on a Friday night around 9pm and it was packed . I ordered the nom nom cookie to share because I had read it is massive and boy was I glad I only ordered one - the ice cream is huge !! I shared with my fiancé and toddler and let me tell you it was so good we finished it all. We were worried it would be too sweet but it definitely was not overly sweet , it was perfect . The price is definitely up there but now I can see it's because these are huge and you can totally share. You also get to keep the mason jar it comes in , so that's cute . Definitely want to go back and try their ice cream bubble tea option . I highly recommend this place!
The small size cup is quite large. The combination of Vietnamese coffee and matcha flavors went well. I'm not sure if there is a lid that could cover the ice cream part but I was not offered one. It would have been handy. I would return to try other flavors & menu items.
The place is super cute. All the decorations are charming. My earl grey ice cream had lady fingers and Reese's Puffs cereal both on and in side the jar. Also inside the jar was caramel sauce. It was really hard to eat the lady fingers in the jar. And the caramel sauce made it crazy sweet. It was beautiful to look at but a lot to eat, that's why 3 stars. Also I was surprised they didn't recycle the glass jars.

But now that their prices have gone up, I just feel like this spot is overrated and overpriced. Over $10 for an average-tasting bubble tea topped with average-tasting ice cream. At least $8 for a cup or cone of ice cream. Their bubble tea is fairly priced at $6-7, but you can get much tastier and richer-flavored bubble tea for the same price elsewhere. If you still wanted to see what all the hype was about, I'd say to go for the the taro/matcha swirl ice cream with some fun toppings (I used to get Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, and Biscoff Cookies). I've had almost every bubble tea flavor and none of them are my favorite among local bubble tea spots, so I wouldn't recommend any flavors from here lol Street parking is hard to find here on weekends, but you should have no issue on weekdays.
Cozy little spot offering an eco-friendly solution to reduce plastic waste by offering mason jars. They are yours to keep and will give you a $1 discount on your next purchase if you re-use. They have plenty of flavor combinations and the look and taste is simply fenomenal. Highly recommend sharing! I tried the nom nom cookie and it was really great. The mason jar contains a lot of cookies and marshmallows inside and the ice cream flavor was not too sweet which paired nicely with the toppings. They didn't have fruity pebbles but they were able to replace with waffles. Probably for the better!
I was a bit excited to come here knowing they make such cool novel dessert drinks. The dessert drinks were truly a work of art and done with heart. They were very decadent. If you do get an elaborate drink, I suggest sharing it with a loved one as they're huge! However, was slightly disappointed with how slow it was to get our drink as there was only one staff working the register and making these elaborate dessert/drink. If you're in a hurry or have unruly kids, I would not suggest coming here. Should you come here, do you use the parking garage across the street that is used for the train station. Otherwise it's impossible to find any space especially on the weekend. read more

An ice cream place that's straight out of a dream world - the artistry that goes into making these ice creams is of the highest order as much as the flavors that they possess. I've not been here multiple times but the only time I got an ice cream from here and it was a yummy Taro in small cup and that too - "To-Go". Wish I had my hands on one of those fancy mason jars that a lot of people on their reviews. The place is well lit with fancy decors but the parking situation will be a challenge as it's right on the Main Street. read more

I have always been a fan of this unique ice cream /bubble tea shop in New Brunswick. They have a lot of Asian inspired flavors on their ice cream menu, as well as cereal toppings. The items on their menu start at $9.75 for the floateas and 1075 for the mason jar specials. So at the New Brunswick location, most of their ice cream is served in a glass mason jar or a plastic cup if you get a smaller size or bubble tea. We've ordered delivery from them which is awesome as parking around Easton Ave can get busy. But if you get the chance to dine inside, go for it! Inside the shop is bright, modern, and perfect for the gram. I think it's nice that they use mason jars instead of too much plastic, but it's a bummer that they can't wash/sanitize and reuse the glass jars. But luckily class is easier to recycle than plastic and you can always reuse the jars at home. Oh no, this is definitely one of my favorite sweet shops in the area. If you don't know where to start, you can always go with ordering anything with Matcha, taro, or the chocolate black out! Treat yourself on your birthday with that "It's my birthday" themed mason jar! read more

This was such a cute and fun spot. Great to bring friends or a date. The inside is not super stunning or decorated special but the surreal sign with light bulbs were simple and cute. Pretty empty and open seating for ice cream during the winter which I prefer; I'm sure it gets packed in the summer. I found the ice cream to be expensive considering it's at a college location but still a nice treat to try out; my point being this would not be a regular stop. Also this location is very convenient and a quick walk from the train station. One tip to save money and calories is to order the smaller cup or cone and avoid the signature mason jars. I haven't ordered the jars since it looks like it can feed an army plus is exorbitantly priced. I ordered the smallest size cup with swirl of sesame and matcha and it came with three toppings so I chose a waffle cookie, sprinkles, cookie crumble and condensed milk (I believe the condense milk was an "extra" included topping) and shared with my partner. This was $7-8 and Yelp has a check in discount - win win on my wallet plus waistline, I'll take it! I'll come back if they run a special or to share a mason jar with many people. read more

For a late night treat this place is awesome! If you want a mason jar ice cream, they do offer in a smaller size which is very nice. Lots of flavors and the staff was really helpful even when it was 15 minutes from closing time. The music can be a bit loud and "interesting" plus it seems like cleaning is left for end of shift for both the tables and the floor, but I would not look into the effect on the quality of the food as it is delicious and a "Satisfactory" health rating was posted. read more
Although a bit pricey this is a fun place for a pretty ice cream. The soft ice cream is very smooth and creamy swirled in a mason jar. Toppings are carefully place so it looks fun and pretty. If you get teddy gram bears they climb up your ice cream. Large portions and a cup to keep with creamy ice cream? Who could ask for anything more. read more
I love surreal their ice cream is amazing. Not too sweet. And they have so many flavors and toppings options. Literally go there every week. Not a huge fan of their boba tea tho. Its a bit bitter. But that could just be a personal preferrence. The place is clean. Staff is nice. They have indoor seating now. Cute spot read more
This place is one part dessert, one part artistry, one part innovative, and about 4 parts sugar. Actually, things don't taste as overly-sweet as I would have expected. The flavors available for your fancy teas, mugs, and milkshakes are unique and interesting. I opted for a Vietnamese Iced Coffee flavored milkshake with 3 toppings (you can specify up to 4). I only got one of the toppings in it, the waffle cone chips, but honestly, that was all it needed, and I didn't miss what wasn't added. Everything is presented in really interesting ways too. The menu board is fun to watch as all the little animated critters appear, interact with the menu items, and then disappear. If you want something a little more interesting and less conventional for dessert after dinner in the area, this is your place! read more
Yum! The taro swirl tasted much better than I thought it would. The portions are huge - definitely for sharing! The price point may seem a bit high but the ice cream is a good amount and includes up to 4 toppings. There is a wide variety of toppings. We ordered the taro with boba, Oreos and condensed milk - delicious! I don't know many places anywhere that serve soft serve AND bubble tea so 5 stars for that. I do have to say the earl grey taste more like a vanilla, the early grey is veryyy subtle. The cookies and crème (blue colored) is also a bit light I wish it had more Oreo. Would definitely come again and recommend this place for a nice snack or dessert. Samples are also allowed for the soft serve. There is street parking out front as well. read more

I came here because I was in the area and wanted something sweet. I thought the ice cream was overpriced and not worth the hype. I had the earl grey vanilla. I've had earl grey ice cream before so I knew what to expect but this ice cream was super bland and had no flavor at all. I was really disappointed. The ice cream and boba combination was good. It looked delicious and sinful!!! The macha taro swirl with macha boba was delicious, however, I'd say I had better bubble tea some other place. The place was busy and the floor needs some cleaning. read more

I will start of by saying that it is very difficult to find parking, as we all know New Brunswick is a busy area. So be prepared to look for a parking for a while and have to walk to the ice cream shop. The shop itself has a chill vibe, but due to covid a lot of chairs are up and things look a bit messy which is somewhat understandable. The tables however are not clean. Staff was nice and even offered to let us try some samples since it was our first time going to this place and we didn't know what to get. My husband got the Vietnamese ice cream w/Thai tea and I got the matcha ice cream with lucky charms. My husband said that he loved the creaminess of the Vietnamese ice cream and he loves the cookie that was "bussin" lol. He however did not like how sweat the ice cream was and the Thai tea tastes very artificially powdered. The quantity was fair for the price. For mine, I think the ice cream was creamy and has that earthy matcha taste that I like and the lucky charms add a crunchy nice taste. I had to take half of it home because I couldn't finish it. We probably wouldn't run back to the shop, but it is a nice commodity to take friends for IG snack pics. read more
Surreal Creamery is always a treat! We've visited both pre- and during the pandemic. The treats are very cute for social media posts. My favorite is the Vietnamese Coffee Float-tea - which is an Vietnamese Coffee ice cream float with Vietnamese Coffee boba. Two of my favorite things in one, can't be beat. It's priced at $8.50 but it's pretty large, I normally split it with someone. I've tried several of their mason jar specials, I also suggest you share with another person. Please note that they are very cool to look at but eat fast, they are VERY messy to deal with. My first time trying them was in-store and I needed so many paper towels to clean up after my blue ice cream (it was the Nom Nom Cookie Mason Jar). To put it fairly, parking can be a nightmare sometimes. I have skipped going due to the dread of parking before . Not their fault they are just located right on Easton Ave. in Downtown New Brunswick. If you're lucky enough to find a spot, please make sure you put in more than enough to pay for the parking or read the signs thoroughly because sometimes it's a longer wait or there is a line. We've actually gotten a $35 parking ticket for being 10 minutes late walking back before. All in all I would recommend trying it out at least once! read more
I saw a place like this in the city and I'm so excited it's finally in Jersey! Great ice cream and cookie dough. They have the texture down just right. Toppings are like endless and the staff helps a lot since there's so many choices. For sure my new fave dessert spot. They have multiple flavors like the classic vanilla and chocolate but also they have unique flavors like taro and black sesame! They also offer a monthly rotation of flavors! You can have a cup, cone, shake, donut ice cream sandwich or specialty Mason jar! Staff is friendly and atmosphere is modern and chic. Makes for great Instagram pictures. read more
Checked out this place after eating at KBG next door. I thought this place looked intriguing from outside. I was having a hard time choosing what to get. There were a few flavors of floateas I wanted to try. I also thought the mason jar items looked interesting. I ended up choosing the Earl grey bubble tea and earl grey ice cream floatea. It was sizeable and filling. The tea and ice cream flavor was light and refreshing. I just found out this place has other locations in NYC. I have to go and try some of these other items. read more
My sister found out about this place on TikTok. They make mason jar sundaes where the sundaes tower over the mason jars. Do you have the choice of ordering a pre-designed sundae or making your own. I ordered what was basically a cookie monster sundae which was made up of blue ice cream, Oreo cookies, cookie crisp cereal, and chocolate syrup. It was delicious! One of my friends made up her own sundae and said she enjoyed it as well. The other friend got the chocolate dessert sundae which is made of chocolate ice cream. They both look phenomenal. read more

I have now been to Surreal Creamery twice (both during the quarantine). I have been using this wonderful Yelp app to put in my orders for pick up. Both times I ordered a Float Tea (roughly $9), which is bubble tea on the bottom and soft serve ice cream on the top. They have quite a few mixtures to choose from. First I chose the Vietnamese iced coffee with Vietnamese iced coffee ice cream, the second time I had Taro bubble tea with taro and matcha swirl ice cream. Both were REALLY good, and I really enjoyed the flavoring of the ice creams. They were sweet and so flavorful. You can definitely taste the flavor! Also, regarding the ordering process. So again, I made my orders for pick up and was able to include my tip through the app. These people are making money by working, yes, but they are still making a choice to work and interact with a lot of people by being here during COVID. So in my book, they're risking their lives, so just a note that people should definitely tip and if they are able, tip a little more for these workers. Anyway, during pick up, both times my orders were ready by the time I walked in. So no need for unnecessary waiting or being by strangers. Stopped by for some floateas here yesterday upon the suggestion of my sister. Currently, Surreal Creamery is running a buy 3 get 1 special for floateas and mason jars orders. We placed an order for 4 floateas: 2 Vietnamese Iced Coffee Bubble Tea & Earl Grey Vanilla Ice Cream, 1 Thai Milk Bubble Tea & Earl Grey Vanilla Ice Cream, and planned to share the free Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha Ice Cream. My sis and I both had the Vietnamese iced coffee and the Earl Grey vanilla ice cream, which tasted delicious separately on its own. The Earl Grey vanilla ice cream was creamy and subtle but something about this combo tasted a little off. I like that each floatee has just the right amount of bubbles and was slightly sweet. I had some of my husband Thai milk tea and it was the best. I always get Thai milk tea whenever I get bubble tea and did regret not getting one from Surreal Creamery. This was the most flavorful Thai milk tea I've had outside of Thailand. Trust me, I will be getting this when I come back next time. After finishing each of our own floateas, we were all too full to share the Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha Ice Cream. We left it in the freezer and had some of it a few hours after dinner. The matcha ice cream was excellent, easily one of the best matcha ice creams I've had. We ended up throwing out the rest of the taro bubble tea as frozen bubbles never taste good. Would love to try their other stuff next time if I can only get that Thai milk tea out of my mind. read more
Perfect dessert place on Easton ave ... if you're not counting calories!! The employee was very patient and generous with how much he gave! The ice cream was fresh and well-made. It's like your regular chocolate custard but 10x better. They have a plethora of toppings to choose from and have some unique flavors. The price is a bit expensive but it lasted me three days so you're getting your money's worth! Overall, a great ice cream place if you haven't had anything else to eat for the day; the only thing you'll eat for the day! read more
