The staff literally argued with each other in front of customers while I was there. I wasn't seen by Dr. Hsu and have never met her. The prescription I was given was from her prescription pad, but it was clearly pre-signed and filled out by the doctor who saw me. That doctor's name isn't on any documentation I saw or was given. The staff ordered lenses that did not match the the prescription or the preference I stated for brand/type. When I attempted to order my own lenses, with an unexpired prescription, they told the vendor my prescription was expired and my order was canceled. read more

I switched to Dr. Hsu for my optometry needs recently and im glad I did! I used to go to her as a child and always remember liking this office, but returning an adult let me appriciate the experience in a different light. This office is a little old school, so that might turn some people off to coming here. They don't have alot of the fancy scanning equipment alot of more modernized optometry offices have. Dr. Hsu makes up for the lack of fancy gadgets though with experience. She caught things about my eyes that my previous eye Dr. either never noticed, or never said anything about. I really like how Dr. Hsu takes the time to educate you about the tests she performs and how eyesight works. As sort of a science nerd i really love that. Thier glasses selection leaves much to be desired, but as someone who always picks out the same looking basic frame this really isnt a problem for me. It might be a problem for others though so thay is why i mention it. The staff isnt pushy and they dont tey to upsell you on upgrades you dont need. I will be back next year for my annual exam! read more

My son and I have been coming to Dr. Hsu for about 2 years now. What a gem of an optometrist in Pacifica. The appointments are so pleasant. Dr. Hsu is fantastic about explaining how my vision has changed over time. She is quite patient with my little boy who used to feel compelled to touch and mess with the equipment in her office. I couldn't agree more with the other 5-star reviews (of which I think they almost all are) -- Dr. Hsu is fantastic. I'm 50yo and have been to a lot of ODs and I have NEVER had as thorough, patient and informative an exam as I've had here. Dr. Hsu is a delightful person and does every possible test there could be to make sure that your eyes are fully diagnosed for any possible ailment -- and, of course, she is thorough in just testing your eyes to determine the Rx. I really enjoyed the experience! And her staff is wonderful -- they spent A LOT of time to find a type of frame that I really wanted, and kept in touch frequently to let me know their progress, I really appreciated that. I've been living in Pacifica for 2-1/2 years now and only in the past year have found my favorite veterinarian, favorite Mexican place, favorite Chinese place, favorite dentist -- and now favorite OD. I'm not talking favorite in Pacifica, but as I have gone to all of those types of businesses outside of Pacifica for a long time, I'm now saying these Pacifica businesses are my favorite in the Bay Area. My brother is an optometrist but he lives in San Diego. Because of covid I wasn't able to get down there this year and needed a new RX. First time I went to Doctor Hsu's office and she was amazing. Incredibly thorough and a very sweet person. Felt bad I ordered my frames through my brother (they were free) but it's honestly the most accurate and best RX I've been given. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Hsu probably one of the best in my life. I have had a lot of eye issues including surgery, flash burn etc, but what I enjoyed about my experience was her wisdom and experiece. Dr. Hsu Identified my cattaract issues and quickly got me into a new set if glasses. Great overall experience and assistants! She also found that I did not have macular degeneration like my last Dr said I had. What a relief! read more

Its ok but i wouldn't give it 5 stars especially after my short visit yesterday. I "accidentally" stepped or sat onto the left leg of my eyeglasses, yet the staff kept on making it come off as though I purposely did it?? Like I would want to break my own eye glasses it didn't seem like they genuinely wanted to assist me and said that cannot completely fix the leg due to the metal part and etc...but i went to lens crafters today and they took care of the situation much better and way more professionally as well as efficiently then this place ever has. I actually thought that the doctor was very nice, but she wasn't very patient with me and i only saw her once and just got frustrated with me saying how i cant keep my eyes open during certain eye exam and even added under her breath something along the lines that I could use a mint??? unacceptable. Dr. Hsu = AMAZING! Ever since I started working a 9-5 desk job my eyesight has become worse and worse. I used to go to a generic optometrist. I was given prescriptions that were perfect for my eyes (according to all their technical tests). Problem was I kept getting headaches when I was wearing my contacts and my eyesight was blurry between near and far. Problem Solved!: I went to Dr. Hsu on a lark. She was so sweet and more importantly SMART! She actually took the time to test my eyes with the kits, then talk to me about how my eyesight felt with the prescription. This woman THOUGHT about what was best for me given my situation. She spoke to me during this whole thing and I was so happy about it because I could hear her thinking about what was the best option. She said we should try something and if that didn't work I could try the second option (no additional fees). I am so thankful I found her. My eyes feel and see great! Side Note: the office staff was less than professional. I almost walked out because the two staffers (1) ignored me when I walked in, (2) talked loudly about all the work they had to do and who was going to do it, and (3) were practically oblivious to the fact that they had a customer/potential client sitting in the room. After my exam with Dr. Hsu, they gave me a sob story over how hard it was to get ahold of my insurance company (sorry but I don't think I should have to apologize for them, even though contacting an insurance company my suck). Thank goodness for Dr. Hsu! She's amazing and she's the ONLY reason (and a good reason at that!) to go back. If you decide to go: keep the goal in mind! Dr. Susan Hsu is kind and compassionate. She is gentle when completing eye exams and explains everything in a way you can understand. She is great eye doctor. Highly recommend Dr. Hsu if you're searching for a new optometrist. They offer a great selection of glasses and sunglasses. The assistants are nice and helpful in selecting the perfect pair that fits your needs. They give you the rundown on what to expect after you've selected your glasses/sunglasses, insurance-wise as well if you're covered. When it's time to return to pick up they will call you to come in, try on the glasses, and adjust if needed. Prescription glasses come with the eyeglass case and cleaning cloth. I am actually sad that my insurance changed and I can't go back to Dr. Hsu - she is so awesome! As a person, she is a very smart, funny, and realistic lady. One time I was asking about the reasons why she was doing certain checks on my eyes and I got all kind of crazy (yet tasteful and confidential) stories that really make me appreciate getting my eyes checked (like cancer scares and preventative measures, etc). She used to employ some older ladies in her office who were not that great (kind of snarky, tried to get me to order some ugly frames and were generally rude about the ones I was trying on) but they have since been replaced by nice employees. I've been to many an eye doctor over the years, in fact I don't think I've been to the same eye doc 2 times in a row since I was in high school. Dr. Hsu is a very professional and caring doctor who treats you as an individual, not just going through the motions with another anonymous patient like many other eye docs (especially at chain type places) do. She takes the time to explain what she is doing, what your options are, etc. and if you have insurance works with you to maximize your benefit. Dr. Hsu is so amazing! She has always gotten my prescription right! She is up to date by having the right technology in her office that helps her give the best outcome to all her exams. She is a brilliant, wonderful,warm and caring person. I have never had to wait for my appointments even though she has always made sure that I am happy with the results of my exam, no matter how long it takes and how many times I say that I don't know to the comparison visuals with the machine in the exam. Plus, she has a lot of great frames from low cost to expensive and modern to basic styles to choose from. In fact, there are so many that I have to go in extra early to have time to choose my frames, in order to be ready for my appointment or stay later and choose. My family has been coming to Dr. Hsu for years, and we're staying with her forever. She is one of the few Drs who I've known who actually takes the time to sit with you and address your concerns and needs. She has a packed schedule but always makes time for us. I have actually been to Drs who take 5-10 minutes with you and then practically throw you out the door. I went to Dr. Hsu's office last year because I was starting to experience general eye tiredness and weakening long distance vision. I had a pair of as-needed glasses from a former optometrist, which were specifically for my astigmatism, but I decided it was time to update and see how my eyes were doing. Her office is just down the street from me, and her reviews were great, so that's how I picked :) Dr. Hsu clearly explained what was going on with my eyes and I felt that my appointment was both efficient and informative-- a hard balance to achieve! My prescription was dead-on and did exactly what she said it would. It has improved my vision, even when I'm not wearing the glasses (they're only for up-close things that tire out my eyes, like using the computer). I ended up filling my prescription through Warby Parker. I feel like most glasses look weird on my face, like my nose and eyebrows are attached to them like one of those joke disguise glasses, so even though there was a great selection to choose from at Dr. Hsu's office, I couldn't find one that truly sang to me. I would highly recommend Dr. Hsu and plan to do my check-ups with her moving forward. read more

I decided to try a new eye doctor since the last one I saw in Linda Mar didn't address my problems even when I went back to her for a 2nd time.She had an attitude with me and I ended up not wearing the glasses for the entire year. I found Dr. Hsu online and decided to check the place out first before I made an appointment. I stopped by one day right after work before closing time and the staff was very polite to me and Dr Hsu even took the time to listen to my problems that I had with my previous glasses and she figured out a solution before even examining my eyes. That is how good she is. I had not even scheduled an appointment yet and I felt that she gave me more feedback and educated me about my eyes more than the previous doctor did.After Dr. Hsu left for the evening the two girls were very polite and said that I didn't have to rush as I was checking out the frames. A week later when I came in for my 1st appointment Dr. Hsu talked to me again before my exam and she was very thorough explaining everything in detail. I felt that she really cared about my eyes and she discussed what she thought would be the best solution for me. She even sat we me very patiently and she and her staff helped me decide which frames to get. I have never had this quality of service ever from an optometrist. They have a pretty good selection of frames that were within the price range that VSP covers. I left the office with a smile on my face because I felt confident that I won't have the same problems that I was having before with my eyes. I have been coming to Dr.Hsu for a long time, and this is not a reflection of her or her work (She is a great optometrist!), it is however a reflection on payment. Normally visits are fine, but recently not so much. I paid what was told to be the full cost for my glasses. Shortly after I was told by Dr.Hsu's business that they "forgot to collect a portion of payment". Businesses occasionally make mistakes, I was understanding about it and payed as soon as I could. However, several months later I received another notification from them of their forgetfulness to collect an entirely separate fee! A business should always be clear, streamlined, and upfront with a purchase when it is made, their offices simply were not. This was not only unprofessional, but upsetting and stressful to me. I have (now) of course paid their "forgotten fees". I am sorry to say it but due to this I no longer wish to use their services. read more

Dr. Hsu has to be the best optometrist and the nicest person out there. Simply put, she cares. She spent time advising me how to take care of my astigmatism and near sight, academic studies, and life style suggestions in general. She then cared enough to check, double check, triple check all the options, went through her thinking process of how to prescribe me in a way that does not over-burden my eyes yet not compromising my vision. Dr Hsu was amazing! After previously coming from Kaiser, I now know what a professional and thorough eye exam consists of! She took a full hour to check the health of my eyes, explaining everything every step of the way. She patiently answered all of my questions in a very friendly manner and never once gave me the feeling of being rushed or put off. Kaiser over the years consistently brushed me off, often giving me incomplete answers just so they can make that quick patient turn-around (apparently they are under contract to meet their quota of 4 patiens/hr). Her prices are reasonable even without insurance, and the office staff is very friendly and attentive.
