I stumbled upon Susan Perrone by sheer luck - only I didn't know it at the time. A colleague had recommended her and since I was clueless about anything-wedding I decided it would be good choice. My dress had arrived late (I ordered from a different place) - 6 weeks before my wedding but Susan was able to fit me in her schedule and get started on alterations right away. My dress was strapless but I felt the need to have my shoulders covered in church and she was able to add sleeves made from tulle that were removable! These straps made my dress feel complete, and I was so happy to have something unique about my dress. My bustle was GORGEOUS she had included I believe 7 bustle buttons - and my very layered Cinderella-like dress stayed up in the bustle the ENTIRE night! (Ever been to a wedding where the bride holds her dress because the bustle fell?) My mother's dress arrived 3 weeks before the wedding (again, from a different shop) and Susan made sure she was able to fit my mom in as well. Turned out that the dress the other shop had ordered was way too small for my mom - and 5 days before the wedding my mom decided to can it. Mom couldn't even sit in the dress!! Luckily - Susan had a dress available in her shop that fit my mother perfectly!! She was able to make some small adjustments that night and 3 days before my wedding my mother FINALLY had a dress! I honestly do not know what we would have done if we hadn't gone to Susan for alterations. She is clearly knowledgeable about gown alterations - and creative! She was able to quickly find a solution to a huge problem for us. I am so grateful for this and I have been back to her shop many times since. I've had 2 other dresses for other weddings altered since and Susan hasn't let me down! I also love her shop, it's very cute and unique and she has a lot of great wedding purses and jewelry to shop for! read more

I contacted Susan Perrone 12 days before my wedding in a panic. I had picked up my wedding dress from another tailor and was NOT happy with the final fit. It seems they had maxed out their abilities and said the only way to fix my dress was massive reconstruction that would leave ugly seams in it. I was distraught but decided to get a second opinion. I found Susan Perrone thanks to reviews like this one. She emailed me back within a couple of hours, fit me in the next morning and managed to have my dress done and perfect within five days. Sadly, I DO NOT recommend coming here. Long review but I think worth your time to read if you care about quality and care of your stuff! Came for a simple straight hem of a white dress I wanted to wear to my bridal shower and left very disappointed and ultimately unable to wear it to my event. I was referred by someone who had a positive experience and Susan truly was a doll and a pleasure to work with when I met with her for the fitting (she as a person gets my star). From what I now understand, her staff does her seamstress work and when I went back to pick up my dress and tried it on, I don't think they even hemmed one inch when we discussed and measured 3.5 inches were to come off!! (To note: after I initially left, I was slightly concerned we pinned almost 'too short' for the hem for a bridal shower but trusted Susan's opinion that it would look cute). Aside from the dress being tooooo long, I noticed the way it was hemmed, that the front of the dress kept coming to two points/peaks at the front of the dress. The lady who works there with Susan kept insisting it wouldn't be seen when I sat down, although it was for my bridal shower and I anticipated many pictures to be taken and lots of standing so her point was NOT valid! The appearance of an indented line was also showing at the hem and that was a result of her pressing the dress and never steaming it according to Susan. Susan pointed this out to her after we noticed it and Susan insisted she steam it right there in front of me... which she was very hesitant to do for whatever reason. They then proceeded to hand me my white dress (still wet with steam like a greenhouse) in a plastic bag that covered half of the dress, leaving the bottom open to get dirty! We had to ask for a longer plastic to cover the dress!! As we were replacing the plastic, we noticed a small stain/dirty spot on the dress. We pointed this out to them, as we were discussing the other issues previously mentioned, and at this point they were offering to take out the hem and re-do it and for us to return in about an hour to pick it up! I felt like more manipulation to this dress would have totally ruined it so I refused further damage to be done. She charged me 45$ for a simple straight hem that was hardly done, done poorly, and stained my dress! The lady who works primarily with her did not own up to the terrible job done and I feel that Susan should be a little more hands on with what comes and goes from her shop to keep a good reputation. Sorry to report such an awful review. I was hoping this would be my go-to spot but my search will continue! read more

Wonderful place!! I came here yesterday on a whim after a bad experience at another local bridal shop and they gladly took me without an appointment. Both Mona and Susan were extremely helpful and patient and even offered to take a gown off the front window mannequin, which is the dress I ended up deciding on and ordering that day. Just picked up my daughters wedding gown today and even though the wedding is on Saturday, I have to take a moment to post something about Susan and her work! My daughter decided to wear my wedding dress but it needed some alterations to the corset part of the dress. The dress had a lot work work around the corset and I wanted a professional to alter it. Simply put, Amazing work and incredibly friendly! I live in CA and traveled to NJ for my sister's wedding week of New Year's Eve. I had a dress emergency from a botched job in CA. Very log story short, Susan Perrone not only took time out of a Holiday schedule, but also did total magic on my dress. The place in CA decided NOT to take in the top of the dress and NOT call me to let me know. They also cut the bottom too short and did a very poor job with the hem. Most of my experience with Susan has been in crisis mode.. first I sent all my bridesmaids to her when the dresses came in 4 weeks before my wedding. The second time I had a regular size bridesmaid dress altered to fit me at 7 months pregnant! I have always had great results- even on tight timelines! I live in NYC. I contacted Susan after the expensive boho chic dress that I purchased from a downtown store in the city was drastically different than the sample I tried in the store. I called Susan Perrone with little hope of them being able to fit me in- and only 5 weeks before my wedding. My aunts, uncle, and mom and I arrived basically ready to hear Susan say no- to my delight she said yea to altering my dress. She has spent several hours with me and she and Mona have given me feedback on everything from my sash to my shoes to what kind of lingerie to wear. My aunt who is an experienced seamstress told me after our first visit to Susan's delightful shop "boy that lady is really good." I was directed her shop by all the reviews on the internet. At my second fitting my dress looked even lovelier, I cant wait to pick it up! Susan's price of approximately $550 is certainly well within the normal price range of all the places in NJ. The one thing that price buys you is an adviser and friendly suppportive cheerleader who will make your wedding day a success. WARNING TO FUTURE BRIDES: I have NEVER written a bad review about a vendor but I have to warn future brides about this shop. Never was it told me that there is a $50 consultation fee just to MEET with Susan and it is only included with her price if you decide to go with her (her minimum for all dress alterations is $550-RIDICULOUS). Although I was told to arrive early I had to wait 20 minutes while she was out getting fresh air. Then once we entered the shop she had to call her husband before helping me - completely unprofessional. Once we started the appointment I felt like I was in a used car shop. Susan and her assistant Mona kept recommending me to buy this bustier, or this bra - it was overwhelming. It wasn't until she told me that she would have to break the beads on my dress (because it has lots of beading) in order to take it in that I realized she wasn't a true seamstress. She should have offered to do it by hand because why could you ever put a beaded dress under a sewing machine! When my mom asked about doing it by hand, Susan said it would be $75 an hour for labor - what the heck am I paying you $550 for?! I left the shop in tears. It was a horrible experience. I came to Susan for alterations after the bridal store I originally bought my dress from was super unhelpful in finding me a belt for my dress and the type of alterations I needed. Sort of freaking out that my dress wouldn't be the way I had imagined, we searched around for bridal salons that could accommodate us. We found Susan Perrone after she came highly recommended by a few people we knew. From my first meeting with her, I knew I was in good hands! She was able to find me the PERFECT belt I was searching for and altered my dress the exact way I described. She even came in on a day she is normally closed just so I could try my dress on one last time and make sure I loved it. She is so sweet, caring, and amazing at what she does. Mona who works there is also so sweet, they felt like family once we were done with my wedding dress and we said we wished I had more dresses to bring to them just so we can see them again! It was such a pleasure to work with Susan and Mona on the alterations of my wedding dress.
