I came here for lunch with a few coworkers. I got the Home Depot roll which I will say, was the best sushi roll I've had in Michigan. I will also say, it was the most expensive sushi roll I've had since coming to Michigan. Our server was very sweet and was attentive on what we needed. The food timing was appropriate- it took about 3 mins for miso soup, 6 minutes for gyozas, and 20 minutes for all of our rolls. Kind of a hidden gem, very good sushi rolls and a large variety with accurate descriptions. we had stopped in to get drinks at the attached bar "On the Rocks" a few times before we tried the food, now it's our go to Sushi place downriver and unless there's something going on at District 142 next door, it usually isn't real busy. We've had a couple severs who obviously didn't have much experience but still did a nice job. The rolls go between 12-20 dollars so it isn't cheap, but you'll feel like you got your money's worth. read more

SERVICE: World Class Service. So my girlfriend and I came in 6 minutes before closing. If you've ever worked in the service industry, we all know how that can be annoying, especially when they close at 11:00pm. However, was met with some fantastic smiles from Cindy (Manager), Ashley (Hostess). They made us very comfortable and told us to take our time. Cindy even set up a table for us at the connected bar next door (On the Rocks). Kind of cool having sushi at a little bar. When it got chilly Cindy moved us close to a fireplace and blasted the heat. We were served by Hailey at the Bar. Fantastic service. Cindy made us feel at home by asking us what we wanted to request from the Juke Box. When I arrived to pick up my sushi none of the employees were wearing masks. Also, they were remodeling and the guys that were working were not wearing masks either. So unsettling... The sushi was alright, we ordered 2 spicy California rolls and a Henry Ford roll. I was not impressed with the Henry Ford roll at all. The spicy California rolls were drenched in sauce, you couldn't taste anything other than it. Typically when I have had sauce on sushi (Mayo, eel sauce) it is just drizzled very lightly on the top but that wasn't the case here. We will probably not be ordering from here again. read more

I'll start this review by saying that Sushi Bar serves the best sushi Downriver. I've tried a lot of different places around and no one is as good as Sushi Bar. If you're looking for good, high-quality sushi, this is the place. With that said, service tends to be very slow for both dine in and carry out and the order isn't always completely accurate. The restaurant has a nice, casually formal setting fit for any kind of outing. My biggest gripe with Sushi Bar is the cost. Though I previously said that it's the best sushi around, $20 for a rainbow roll is ridiculous. If prices came down a bit, I would gladly add a star to the rating. Between my husband and I, and his brother and wife we ordered a spicy and non-spicy California roll, a crunchy roll, two Detroit rolls, Tokyo roll and a multiple orgasm! The rolls are a perfect bite-size; specialty rolls are a bit larger with the extra fluff but still manageable. The regular rolls were just what you would expect, however if u don't like a lot of sauce perhaps ask for light mayo. I would eat it doused in sauce so no complaints there. The specialty rolls were a lot of fun. If u like a sweet Rangoon flavor I highly recommend the crunchy rolls! Also the crab on the Detroit roll was yummy. Overall the sushi was very fresh and delicious. Oh and if you're worried about the caviar, don't be, it's very tiny and unnoticeable in both flavor and texture. My two complaints are that we ordered together on one piece of paper and later had to list off our rolls because we were paying separately. Next time we'll just ask for another sheet. Everywhere I have ever gone has been $6 max for a Cali. Forget their special rolls. 2 special rolls will easily cost you over $45. Second, their "seaweed salad" is an absolute joke. It is mixed spring greens topped with about 2 tablespoons of seaweed salad. And for the price!? Absolutely laughable. Our most recent visit was in July 2021. The server was friendly, atmosphere was decent, and food tasted fine. The server did forget items and service was slow. Between mediocre service and the outrageous pricing for what you're getting, it's an overall let down of an experience. We paid $100 for 4 drinks and 4 BASIC rolls and one salad. 2 Cali, 2 Salmon avocado, seaweed salad, 2 cocktails and 2 beers. Anywhere else it would have been around $50, if even that. Chef is just an artist and possibly the most likeable person I know. He treats us incredibly well every time we are in this fine establishment. Eating here is a sensual experience. The food is meant to be savored by every faculty which man possesses. I see advertisements for other sushi restaurants and am not even remotely enticed by their accompanying pictures or menu descriptions. On all fronts, the Sushi Bar in Wyandotte is extraordinairy--presentation, service, atmosphere, taste and quality. I've traveled all throughout Central Europe and North America, and have never tasted any dish so exquisite and savory as those I've ordered here. The secret ingredient, I believe, is Love. Mike, the proprietor and designer of the establishment has a real passion for quality service, and his eyes light up when he speaks of his restaurant. If you look through the photos I posted, you can see evidence of passion on a plate! Two days ago, the love of my life and I, again, made our third pilgrimage to the Sushi Bar for our fix. We sat at the sushi bar, and ogled over the fresh fish displayed. Mike stopped by to sit and chat with us for a while about the history of the place and how something so good came to be in such a little-known place. If you ever have the opportunity, ask him about its roots. You'll be in for quite a tale! On this visit, to thank us for our faithful patronage and kind review, Mike gave us a sample of his favorite creation with the triple-punch flavor--cool, slightly spicy, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. But his kindness extended, still further! "I'm going to make you the best dessert of your lives, the likes of which you've never seen or tasted. This dessert will blow your mind," he said. "Free of charge." And he was right. Absolutely right. At the end of our meal, he came out with a specialty dessert on a long plate: two decadent towers of tiramisu, fresh artfully arranged fruits, and a single scoop of flavorful frosty ice cream, complemented by two chocolate syrup hearts. If I could give no stars then I honestly would. Service was HORRIBLE the first time My husband and I visited. People that came in 10 mins after us were served before. Tried 4 different rolls and only one was decent enough to like. Waitress kept apologizing for everything but didn't seemed to really know how to handle the situation. We met the owner and he begged us to come back and gave us a complimentary card for the "bad day". (This was on 3/11/18) Well today (7/8/18) we decided enough time had been by and would give it a second try. The waiter was good attentive and friendly. However the food once again was a huge DISAPPOINTMENT! Everything seemed the same on the menu. We ordered CRUNCHY ROLL METROPOLITAN HENRY FORD SPICY CALIFORNIA and DIRTY BLONDE. The crunchy roll seemed to have a honey mustard sauce on it, the metropolitan had too much crab topping and was too spicy, the Henry Ford was the only one that was decent enough to eat although it needed maybe a teriyaki sauce drizzled on it and the dirty blonde the white tuna on it seemed way too blah and too warm to eat. All the veggies on the rolls were warmed up instead of fresh and crisp. We asked for fried rice and that was yuck. It had chunks of celery and purple onions the rice was bland and flavorless. It wasn't mixed in well either. The sushi chef claimed to have been from Benihana's but the rolls were beyond disgusting and definitely NOTHING like a Benihana meal. The spicy mayo tasted old. We were asked if we wanted to speak to the manager or owner and we refused especially since we had already talked to him (Mike) before and absolutely NOTHING has improved since our first visit. I came here on Saturday for a date night with my guy and while the sushi was enjoyable, I kind of wish we would've gone somewhere else. We were seated fast and our waitress was very friendly. When our sushi arrived, the waitress forgot to put in one more roll. Mistakes happen! I get it, no biggie. But by the time we got her attention to let her know about this - we were already done eating. So we had to wait an extra 15ish minutes or so for that one roll. I will say their crunch crab is absolutely delicious. It is served warmed which just makes it taste oh so good. If I ever do come back, it would just be for that roll! All their other rolls were decent but this was my favorite. Usually I'm stuffed after eating sushi, but I left this place hungry which is a thumbs down for me. We spent $55 for 5 rolls and one miso soup. I personally feel like you can spend less at other places for more. And that their prices are a bit more than other sushi competitors in the area. I usually have had decent experiences here but I went today and my customer service was not good. The sushi was amazing but we sat there for a long time and the waiter had an air pod in his ear the whole time. He was not wearing a mask. He disappeared multiple times and didn't take our bills up like usual. When I paid my bill was $27 something and I gave him $40. I was supposed to get $12.47 back but he only gave me $12 and said he doesn't have change and I said whatever. I will not go back. They did not have the change they should have as a restaurant and not good customer service either. I work at a restaurant and I know you shouldn't have open toed shoes on (he had flip flops on). I know you should treat the customers with respect. You should also have enough change to give a customer no matter where you have to go and get it. I understand a pandemic hit but you should have enough money in the register for ur customers and take the precautions of wearing a mask to wait on the customers because though the pandemic is slowing down it doesn't mean it's gone and I feel every worker should wear a mask if you are going to communicate with many people in a day. If I see something I don't like I'm going to point it out because If you're going to have a business you should know how to run it. I've had Sushi from almost every place in Dearborn, Royal Oak, Ferndale, and Auburn Hills (I avoid chains like the plague, hence the "almost") and this was the best and most original Sushi I've ever had. I looked at the menu and I wanted to see what original rolls this place had and I was absolutely not disappointed. I ordered both a Beauty and the Beast Roll (Bar-b-Que, Eel, Avocado, Crab Stick, Topped With Eel, Tuna, Red And Black Caviar Rolled With Rice And Seaweed.) and the Georgia On My Mind Roll (Yellowtail Asparagus, Cream Cheese, Avocado Topped With Yellowtail, Avocado, Topped With Yellowtail, Avocado, Green Caviar And Scallion, Rolled With Rice And Seaweed.) Both were packed so delicately, yet firmly, with the most choice cuts of Eel and Yellowtail respectively. The flavors were so subtle, you could taste each of the Caviars, the Eel Sauce, and the fish so brightly. The items were perfectly paired so you get the full effect of each. It was magnificent. I've bumped them up to a three for ingenuity. I went to the Sushi Bar for a sushi making class. It was a very basic how to roll your own California rolls type of thing, accompanied by wine pairing/tasting. It's an interesting idea, and if executed correctly could be a huge hit. The seating was less than optimal, with them making do with their standard dining room layout, which scattered people and didn't allow for any real cross-socializing. The dining room was also open to and interspersed with regular patrons just there to eat, which was odd to say the least. There were several staff leading the event, and while they were attentive and pleasant enough, it was unclear at times who you were supposed to be watching. I ordered the plain fashion roll and the golden east roll because they looked exciting, and what i got was something that looked like 7 dollars of sushi for 18 bucks. First off, the plain fashion roll was missing 3 ingredients! no tomato, asparagus, or oshinko to be found, but they added some carrots in, so i basically paid 8 bucks for a carrot avocado cucumber roll with a couple leafs of lettuce, the same roll at a place like noble fish would have cost about 3.25 and been as filling and better tasting. I wasnt notified at all that these three ingredients were missing, Secondly, my golden east roll had only 3 ingredients other than the seaweed and rice, as it too was missing the asparagus. for 7 dollars i was expecting again a much better roll, but at least this one was a little tasty (just no asparagus crunch that i love in sushi!) A quaint little establishment that at first might not draw a second glance, however passers by are remiss to not stop in a this place. The atmosphere is clean and simple. No over the top decor, but a nice large window that has a decent view of the downtown area. When we went it was not very busy, the waitress was friendly, and the service was fast. It's not pretentious or fancy, but rather fairly low key. The drink menu is standard, Sapporo (a Japanese beer) is available. A good selection, but not extensive, of wines. This restaurant offers the standard sushi fare- cucumber roll, avocado roll, California roll, etc., but their specialty rolls are where they really shine. We ordered the Detroit, the Metropolitan, and the Rock and Roll. The sushi came out quick, was fresh, and full of flavor. This place is a top contender against my other sushi favorites (Ronin and Blufin) and I would recommend it to anyway looking for a reasonably priced sushi fix. read more

Used to come here all of the time, but, due to the poor service in the past I stopped. This time I decided to give it another chance after a couple of years. I placed an order on the phone and ordered 2 rolls and an order of dumplings. The young man that handled my order at the register was nice, but the waitress that kept on coming in from the bar next door was loud and unprofessional. Not a good look for the business. When I got home and opened up the containers of the food I was disappointed. My tempura roll was burnt and the dumplings were the size of a quarter and had no flavor. My other roll was fine, but it's a shame that the food isn't consistent and I couldn't believe the size of the dumplings and how burnt the other roll was. I took my two sisters out for birthday sushi a few days ago. I didn't want to drive too far and found Sushi bar on google maps and decided to give it a shot. We got there around 7 and were starving and ready for sushi! We were greeted right away by a hostess. Initial impression when we walked in was that it was nicely decorated inside but the tables and chairs were pretty basic (table was uneven). It had a decent amount of seating. They had some instrumental/light vocal music playing in the background which was nice however I would really have enjoyed hearing music native to Japan. But with that said as much as I enjoy ambiance, the most important thing is the sushi!!! We went all out and had green tea, miso soup, seaweed salad and 3 different rolls to share: Rainbow roll, Crunch roll, and the Hawaiian roll as well as a tuna and salmon sashimi. Miso soup was perfect. The seaweed salad was very nicely displayed with extra leafy greens and shredded carrots and a tomato and lemon on the side. The sushi was also presented with shredded carrots, esthetically appealing (served with pride). The rainbow roll is my personal go-to because it has 4 types of fish on top. It had a good amount of fish and it tasted very fresh. The crunch roll was DELICIOUS! I don't usually like tempera, but this was lightly fried, and not overly breaded like some rolls I've had. The Hawaiian was good but probably not my favorite because it had mango in it. My only complaint is that they used Lipton green tea and didn't have a teapot readily available for refills. Would be nice if they could order an imported loose leaf green tea from Japan and have a pot brewed. Our young server was very nice and accommodating. A+ All in all I give this spot 4 stars! I ordered a Detroit Roll minus the cream cheese. 1/3 of their "Special Rolls" contained cream cheese. Because sushi has been so westernized, there are usually 1 or 2 rolls offered with cream cheese. But 5 out of their 15 rolls contained cream cheese. Blech. For $14.99 you get the following in a Detroit Roll; Shrimp Tempura, Cream Cheese, Avocado, Topped With Crab Stick, Spicy Mayonnaise, Eel Sauce And A Variety Of Caviar, Rolled With Rice And Seaweed. They DID NOT include avocado in my roll nor the "variety of caviar". The shrimp was also extremely small. In one bite, there wasn't even shrimp but just a glob of tempura. I did not want to wait for another roll to be made the correct way so I just requested the caviar which she obliged with a little plate of masago.
