Pickup experience was good.. friendly staff greeted me and I had to wait 5 or 10 minutes but no worries our food was fresh and delicious when we arrived home to eat our meal. We had dinner with family and friends on a Friday night and the place was packed. We had a party of about 10 and we waited for 30 minutes. I was freezing outside. Luckily, the waiting area on the inside by the bar opened up. This place has a sushi bar in one corner and the rest of the restaurant does teppanyaki. Our whole party sat together at one of the teppanyaki tables. There was a chef in the middle of our table that cooked all our food for us and put on a show. I love how he made a volcano with the stacked onion slices and lit it on fire. For our appetizers we got their specialty sushi roll of the day. I forgot the name of it, but it was so good. It had real crab and it was deep fried. Our hibachi combo meals came with clear soup, house salad, veggie medley and fried rice. I got the shrimp and scallops $30. The hubby got the chicken and filet mignon $30. I'm used to having miso soup at these places, but this place had a clear soup, which was ok. The food was good and the proteins were fresh. I loved the scallops. My only complaint was the butter. OMG, huge scoops of butter for everything that he cooked. I could see my arteries clogging. They gave us this dipping sauce that was to die for. I think it was called yum yum sauce. I could put that sauce on everything, lol. We had fun and I would dine here again. I can't remember ever being disappointed at a hibachi restaurant but that time has come now. My cousin was traveling for business and had a layover in Detroit. I chose Ichiban from my Yelp list because it's not far from the airport. We were told that the wait would be 35 minutes since they were short staffed, but it was only 20 minutes. Our server was great, but the food is where the disappointment started. The server went over the items not on the menu, and we chose the chicken egg rolls. I've had better tasting frozen egg rolls and should have left them on the unseen menu. Sighhh. Ohh!! And they are $10 for three mini egg rolls that they slice in half to give you six pieces. Double sighhh. I had the hibachi chicken with fried rice and a side of noodles for the entrée. It went further downhill when the chef did not cook the noodles long enough. I understand that they are already "cooked", but can I get a nice sauté and some extra heat on them? Well, at least the chicken and the rice were cooked well. But when the chicken was placed on my plate, it created a soupy sauce that pooled at the bottom of the plate. And where are the flavors? Do they have seasonings or even garlic butter? Food best this is my absolute favorite restaurant ever. The service was very quick and provided great quality. This was mostly because of the GREATEST COOK EVER! JOHNNY! I was at the Taylor location about a month ago and It was fantastic so I bragged to my friends how good everything was, so we decided to go back with them. It was a totally different experience the food was undercooked and the cook doing the show acted like he didn't want to be there. Needless to say, when you pay that much for a meal you expect more! Great experiencei! Even though they were very busy and a bit behind, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They were very apologetic about the wait (more than necessary) and clearly worked hard to catch up, which was appreciated. I had the scallops but I'm not sure they were cooked enough. I ate them and enjoyed the fried rice and vegetables. Salad was good as well. I would go again but order a different protein. I also think the portions were small compared to other Japanese steak houses I've been to for the same price. I will still be looking for a place like the old Kyoto's. read more

When we first walked in it seemed some of the employees didn't really know what was going on. For example, being hibachi it makes sense we would have to wait until more people showed up when we got there, no big deal. but when asked if we were waiting for more people in our party, we answered that we were waiting for the staff to be ready and they walked away talking about how we had said that we were waiting on them in a very condescending way like they didn't know what we were talking about. Once we were at the table the chef and server were amazing! The food was okay, nothing special, definitely not worth the price but the portions were perfect compared to other hibachi I've been to. We love ichiban but not sure we will return to this location as I'm super disappointed in the service we received today. Want to preface the employees are so nice and the mistakes made were unintentional but could have been addressed, my real gripe is with the way management handled the situation. Upon arrival and placing orders we let our server know we have a shellfish allergy. Our drinks which were bottled beers took awhile to arrive and appetizers came cold and we waited approximately 25-30 minutes for them. It's Saturday so this isn't a huge issue. But worth noting when reviewing the experience. Our chef finally comes and he was fantastic, but it's quickly obvious the shellfish memo was never passed on to him as all of our food is being cooked together that we've waited about 40 minutes for. Luckily we had our appetizers so my partner didn't go hungry. But he was unable to eat his hibachi due to the cross contamination. I brought this concern to management attention as to prevent this from happening to others. If we weren't paying attention while food was being cooked this could have been consumed and a real concern could have unfolded for us all. Instead I took home two entrees and my partner with the allergy ate only the appetizers. Where I decided I needed to write a review was when I realized management wasn't taking the issue seriously at all. The server never acknowledged the issue, indicating she was never informed of her mistake, and potentially still taking orders from families with allergies and risking other potential mistakes, being that management decided not to take the opportunity to immediately educate. I want to restate that I feel ad though the blame should be on management and not the server, as she clearly wasn't informed by management of the mistake. We received no sort of credit on our bill and management waited until we were on our way out to apologize which seemed very avoidant of taking responsibility and ownership of the situation. read more

This was an another hibachi place here called o"samurai and was amazing I was sad to see it go but ichiban definitely did a great job. The service was amazing. The ambiance and decor was beautiful. I wont be back. For three dinners, 97 dollars, its to much. Maybe its better when dining in?? The rice was terrible, the shrimp was over cooked, the lobster didn't even taste like lobster. My husband and I had dinner at Ichiban tonight. No one offered us seating at the sushi bar. We waited an hour and a half, but could have been seated much sooner. The staff seem to be overwhelmed. We ordered the Miso soup but were served mushroom soup instead. We had fried shrimp shumai for the appetizer, and shrimp tempura rolls for the main course. We had a long wait. We know not to come here on a Saturday night for dinner again. We will try for lunch another day. read more

They brought a bowl of fried rice from the kitchen. The fried rice looked and tasted completely different. It's not consistent. Very nice restaurant with great service. The noise level is somewhat annoying because they seat people very close to each other. No booths. Typical hibachi grill where they place you with strangers. Even the tables by the sushi chef have strangers right next to you. Some booths would be great. Not a place for a romantic dinner. The food was very good, very expensive. This is a place to celebrate birthdays with friends but just too much money for a weekday dinner. The drinks are also $12 and up. We enjoyed the food, but for 2 people with a beer and a cocktail, all appetizers, $76 (including tip) was pretty expensive. People around us at the sushi bar, had a ton of entrees and appetizers. Came here with my sister and niece yesterday on an early Saturday evening. Had never been here before, but in a nutshell I will definitely be coming back! Service was great, the overall ambiance is awesome and the food was delicious. Our grill chef was friendly and entertaining and had a great sense of humor. Thoroughly enjoyed the little "zucchini toss" where the chef went around the table and flipped little pieces to try and have us catch it in our mouths...super fun! Portions are large and we all left being stuffed and still had to take some food home with us. We had a short talk with the owner or manager when leaving and he was friendly too. So, this place serves a VERY good teppanyaki meal. My chef was both a culinary expert and a great entertainer, and the service was exceptional (my server was Austin & he is friendly, knowledgeable & thorough). The only reason that I did not give this restaurant a FULL 5-Star review was the atmosphere. There was very little privacy, and it just seemed too crowded. Don't get me wrong, it was packed because of the food, service and entertainment, but it just seems like the success of Ichiban has outgrown the space. I believe that it would create a more quaint environment if they had a restaurant with twice the space .... and created more private tables. I just felt like there was no finite boundary between one table and the next - nor was there ample space between one seat and the next. But, maybe I caught them at a peak time (Thursday night). If you go during a less crowded time, you will probably enjoy a 5-star experience. And, I would definitely ask for Austin to be your server - he was outstanding. And, no...I do not know Austin. I just feel it's important to compliment people that put everything they've got into serving others. And, Austin did just that. read more

Great service, outstanding food. Sometimes the waitress can be a bit slow but hey, they are learning!! They always make up for their mistakes too. Juan is one of the best chefs they have in my opinion, request him. He will make sure your experience is good. The managers are also very personable, which means a ton. Never ever ever underestimate the ginger sauce. Dump it directly onto your rice hahaha. Their appetizers all look delicately prepared as well. This is definitely my go-to place when I am in this area. One thing I can request is a house made "spicy red paste". Like a house made sriracha, but more viscose.
