    Crab Puffs

Sushi Garden used to be my go-to sushi spot so I was excited to see they moved and I actually really enjoyed the interior of the new location. The service was good. I ordered the crab puffs, jalapeno poppers, a Philly roll, Vegas roll, and a baked California roll. Everything tasted good but for some reason it didn't quite live up to how I remembered it. I also wish they still offered the all-you-can-eat deal. I'm not sure I can call it my favorite spot anymore but it's still good and I'd come back.

I wanted to like this place more, I really did. Our server Maki was very sweet, and attentive without being a helicopter. But I have a couple gripes: We asked to be seated on the patio, and we were, but the material of the seats on the patio is something that felt like it could burn you through pants in March. I can't imagine sitting outside, misters or fans not withstanding, in a Tucson summer. When we moved ourselves to seating that was shaded, the hostess decided to come and snark at us for doing so. Something really off-putting and brings this to a three instead of a four is the mildly NSFW manga content in the bathroom. I thought the concept and wallpapering was a pretty cool interior decorating idea I hadn't seen before. However, this intrigue was my downfall. I saw a couple series I recognized, and within the minute I was using the restroom, saw aforementioned NSFW panels. How many pairs of eyes did that go through before it was decided to be put in BOTH bathrooms? As far as food is concerned, I ordered the salted edamame (not pictured), salmon sashimi, rainbow roll, baja jalapeño roll, and mountain roll. I am of the belief you can't mess up edamame or a rainbow roll, which proved to be true for Sushi Garden as well. The sashimi was very buttery, and I really enjoyed the portion size. If you are a person who likes to mix fruit and raw fish, the mountain roll is a good choice, but the baja jalapeño roll tastes like a jalapeño popper had an unfortunate union with a California roll. Not for me, but that isn't something I would have taken in to account for my review.

Everything was wonderful! I was a little nervous about the reviews but we decided to go anyway and glad we did. Super modern and clean and im pretty sure this is at a slightly different location from what I remember years ago? There is alot of construction here so its possible they are in a new building. Our waiter was quick and very friendly. I would come back for happy hour or date night. The sushi was so yummy! We got a few different rolls and they were all pretty tasty

Bombzeeeee! Always the best. Best service. Best food. Best place to be. I always love coming to this location and restaurant. The servers and boss check up on you to make sure you're good which I appreciate. Food doesn't take too long to come out. I love the way they designed the restaurant too. The open bar is cool too. I came here to take some notes and sat at the bar. Was really nice. Food was great. Got crab cucumber salad, spicy mayo and lemons. Then a Philly roll. Perfect lunch

We were seated right away without having to wait. They have a great selection of different menu items including sushi, noodles, tempura, soups, sashimi, etc. This place can get busy and it did seem like they might need to number the tables for orders on the weekend since the servers bringing out the food did not always know what table items went to. We never ended up getting our edamame order, but the seared red ahi tuna with avocado and salmon sashimi were both good. They give you fairly large portions of sashimi which is nice. The cucumber salad was just okay. My spouse enjoyed the poke bowl as well.

I was not pleased by any means with the sushi I was presented with at Sushi Garden. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Volcano Roll for my dinner and was excited to say the least until the food arrived to my table. The Shrimp Tempura Roll should just be called Tempura Roll because 2/6 pieces on my plate were just Tempura batter and no shrimp, WHAT A RIP OFF. Not to mention the shrimp was cold, every other place I have been to has served their Tempura Shrimp warm. The Volcano roll was tolerable but far from excellent. The miso soup was the best part of my experience because it was actually delicious. The service was good and the manager who greeted us at the door was very welcoming and friendly. I just have a problem with paying for poor quality food. I will not be returning to this establishment.

Shrimp platter. Notice wilted cabbage and lame stir fry under shrimp.

It's the battle of sushi restaurants in Oro Valley. I ate at both in just two weeks. Feel free to read my Sushi Valley one on Yelp. At SG, we ordered the garden roll, veggie tempura, and the shrimp with stir-fried veggies meal. From an ambiance standpoint, SG dominates over SV. A point to SG. Service wise, I'm going slightly to SG. Another point. The garden roll consists of avocado, pickled mountain carrots, wrapped in seaweed, and rice. It comes with a Jalapeno Honey Sauce and some other sauce they do not mention on the menu. It also comes with ginger and Wasabi. I liked the rolls, but a dip in the sauce is a must. I couldn't tell you what the red dollops were because I couldn't figure out the flavor. The green was a winner, a bit of this will take it to a higher level of intense, and with a tiny bit of Wasabi a total ping. HUGE WIN. I didn't try any roll at SV. The Veggie tempura at SG was a fail. I found it more greasy than SV, and the veggies were a mix. The usual fare sans eggplant. The sauce will be a huge miss. It was nothing more than soy sauce. Why? SV had some type plum sauce that worked. SV wins a point. The main meal. Again, the dipping sauce was soy sauce with scallions. Why? Has anyone at SG dipped shrimp into it? Fail. The shrimp were small, nicely seasoned, and plenty for one. The stir fry veggies were disgusting. First, they are under the shrimp. Secondly, it looked like wilted cabbage, a couple of sliced/julienne carrots, and one other item I already forgot. No sauce, no flavor, and seriously, they should be embarrassed by serving that. I initially had fried rice with it, which costs about 2 bucks more, but when it showed up, it has corn in it, and with my allergy to corn, no go. They were nice to switch it out to plain white rice. Total cost for the meal with ice tea and Diet Coke wad about $52 with tax.

First time here. Busy place, clean, good staff. Enjoyed the food. Wine wasn't bad either for being boxed. Our server was Wijit? She was very helpful and accommodating. We'll definitely be back.

46$ for 4 huge rolls and crab puff appetizer is quite a deal. Also got eel and jalapeño bomb.

Great service, food and location is sooo much better than old place at foothills mall.

I don't know how busy this place gets, but we were seated right away when we got in. We're lucky to have a very good server. I kinda doubt the authenticity of their food cause I don't see any Japanese chef, at the sushi bar. But the maki/roll is pretty good. I had the Pork ramen, and it was okay. But if you are looking for a fine dining experience, this is not the place for you.

    Teriyaki Chicken Salad
    Chelsea J.

My rating is strictly for the new location and my salad. I thought the new restaurant is beautiful inside and out. The patio was perfect tonight since it was warm outside today. Service was somewhat slow. I'm not a big fan of their sushi but I was with a friend who loves the Baja roll, so I got the teriyaki chicken salad. I didn't use the teriyaki sauce but I did use the ginger dressing and it was light and delicious. My salad had some black/bad lettuce but otherwise I really enjoyed it. There were no carrots like the menu mentions.

This was not what we expected but the staff was friendly and 1/2 patrons at the food hall were eating sushi. The stalls have big energy today and lots of patrons are searching for a seat. Why not give them a chance? The menu is fairly varied for a small pop-up with traditional and deep fried sushi rolls. The female wait staff is handing out egg drop soup samples to everyone, ever those eating pizza and gyros. Looking around, these rolls are huge. We chose the Sonoran roll with shrimp tempora, spicy tuna, spicy crab topped with seared salmon and yuzu sauce. This roll was flavorful and spicy. Another roll was the Samurai with shrimp tempora, cream cheese, avacado wrapped in soy paper deep fried and covered with spicy crab / shrimp mix baked in a spicy aioli and eel sauce. This was our favorite roll with a pop in the tempora shrimp and an uncious taste coupled with a bite. Our third and final roll was the heart attack. Another spicy roll with shrimp tempora, avacado, cream cheese topped with jalepeno, spicy crab and chef sauce. Again, another good roll and a ton of food. This food mall is in an unassuming neighborhood with a smiling server who is hustling like crazy. The sushi was good, unique and tasty. It was a huge amount of food. Give this hard working staff and chance, she is enthusiastic and working hard. To the staff at Samurai Sombrero who are working hard and obviously, not a trained sushi chef. To the public, take a chance, give Samurai Sombrero a try and judge for yourself.

They have really…read moreupped their game these last couple of years (I'm guessing thanks to their new head chef). In my prior review, I complained about a lack of consistency in their meals. Not anymore! I can happily say that my meals have been consistently good. They've updated their menu many times since my last review - this is for the better. While they still have some of their classics like their ramen (the vegan ramen is actually delicious and with umami flavor), they've added other fun things like the braised short rib donburi. (Which they recently had a special where the donburi was made with udon noodles instead of rice - please make this a permanent menu item!!) I love their yuzu yellowtail sashimi dish. To be honest, I would argue Obon has some of the best sushi in Tucson. Their cocktails have also gotten much better. Before, I felt like many of them were pretty strange creations. Now, their drinks are still unique but thoughtfully made - not full of sugars, candy, etc. I look forward to having a cocktail at Obon now. The interior/exterior of the restaurant has not changed; I do not mind this. The ambiance has always felt right. If there was one minor thing I'd change, it would be so that when you sit at the sushi bar, you could actually see the sushi being made (it's hard to explain the seating at the bar but basically the view of the sushi chefs at work is sorta blocked by the unused sushi itself). But this is incredibly minor and not at all an issue causing a lesser rating. As you can see, I have come to really love Obon. I come here semi-regularly, both on dates and with friends, so I felt it was only just to update my previous critiques. If it's been a while since you last tried Obon, definitely give it another go. They are doing some good work here, clearly listening to customers and making improvements.
