We actually found this Sushi Garden location by accident after placing what we thought was a to-go order at the Aptos location and it turned out to be a great discovery! We've been coming back for many to-go & dining-in since. The restaurant is a little more spacious, which is great for our family. The staff is always friendly, I like that they offer you edamame and water as soon as you sit down. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, and we love that they're open all day. It also seems like they offer additional menu options and specials compared to other locations, which has been a nice surprise and we have some new favorites! I have been to sushi garden a handful of times, (And even worked at one years back!) but haven't been to the Watsonville location too often. Typically the service is okay, but this past Saturday (valentines day) stood out to me! My boyfriend and I stopped by around 8:15pm with no reservation, but were seated promptly. Our server Dalia (I can't quiet remember her name unfortunately) was an absolute pleasure! She was extremely polite, accommodating & quick with service. I ordered the Avo Crunch & Amigo roll, both were so yummy and filling!! My boyfriend got the dinner special and enjoyed the beef teriyaki, but wasn't a huge fan of the chicken katsu. This is an outstanding restaurant. I met some friends after work and I was the one that recommended this place since I've been here several times. They provide a nice atmosphere, it's a great location for lunch or dinner with plenty of nearby stores. The food quality is excellent and fresh. The menu is absolutely huge. Their grilled yellowtail jaw was amazing (again really big!) Delicious seafood salad with squid. Very fresh. The salmon dish was huge and juicy. Agedashi tofu was really nice, crispy and not smothered in sauce (Sauce is on the side). The seared tuna was wonderful. Fast and friendly service, though the waiter misled us a bit. Kiddo is tossing her (empty) miso soup bowl, mom is asking for ketchup with her tempura, tea was spilled, mess was made. They were so nice about everything. (Don't worry we tipped extra well) The food was really good. Mom had the shrimp tempura plate and I had a combo w Kal Bi and Tempura Combination. They gave us edamame when we sat down as well. We were starving and looking for a place to eat that was open late when we found Sushi Garden. As soon as we walked in we were assaulted with the strong smell of a cleaning agent. We had to move tables to get away from the smell but couldn't quite escape it. The service was attentive and we were able to order right away. We were also greeted with complementary edamame- a nice touch. The food was disappointing. I ordered ramen, which I needed to send back because they had added a spicy chili sauce that just didn't taste good. We ordered udon and teriyaki chicken - both very underwhelming. The sashimi didn't taste fresh. It was tasteless and seemed like it had been soaking in water in order to preserve it. We told our waiter, and he talked to the sushi chefs. He came back and told us that they have been getting that complaint a lot and that the sushi was in fact fresh... They didn't offer to replace it with other fish or to take it off the bill. Came in for dinner Saturday night to find the restaurant half full. We drive 30 minutes to this location as we aren't fond of sushi restaurants near home. My 6 and 4 year olds enjoy the teriyaki beef here along with the green salad, miso soup and complimentary edamame. It took the waitress about 15 minutes to acknowledge us and take our order. We ordered the two item bento for my oldest boy, a three item bento for my husband, myself and youngest to share and two rolls for us adults. We had to request the edamame as it wasn't brought to us initially. Once the food arrived we found ourselves having to remind our waitress of items missing and were surprised to find that ginger and wasabi are not plated with the sushi. Our waitress seemed to be ignoring her tables a lot and we overheard many disgruntled customers who felt the service was horrible with the same waitress. While we agreed, we kept getting the attention of the other available waitress who quickly responded and attended anyone she could with a smile. Due to this one super helpful waitress and the tasty and awesome portions we rated last nights experience with a 3 star. I've read comments about the sushi being warm which is why I've avoided this place for a while . When I first tried this place I noticed that the sushi was warm , mind you this was pre covid , Post covid I gave this place another try and I can say that food quality is still stellar and the sushi doesn't seem as warm as before , it's actually very fresh, atleast to my taste buds. The person that attended me (Nathalie/a) was very rude.She has no customer service, no welcoming atmosphere, no politeness. She saw me a customer walk in and left me standing at register for 5 minutes. She looked up at me three times and didn't acknowledge me once. After reading mixed reviews I really am glad I decided to come here today for lunch. The menu is very typical for most Sushi restaurants but they have their own named rolls too. The one unique thing they have are some unique small plates. When I saw the menu it was hard for me to chose one item, because everything looked good. I was surprised with this place. I expected well over priced small portions. I ended up ordering the Chicken Teriyaki Don. I was pleased with everything here. Our waitress was Natalie she was very superb, answered all of our questions and knew everything that was on their menu. Reading sushi restaurants really means you have to have tuna or teriyaki. Well, that's not the case here. This place has a bit of everything for everyone. Very smooth experience overall. After looking for a reliable sushi restaurant I think I found my place. We were actually going to get sushi at another place in Watsonville, but they were closed for remodeling, so we drove over because we knew there was another Japanese place in this shopping center. Luckily it was still there (Covid has taken its toll on restaurants and many haven't been able to stay open) and we were seated right away. It was a weekday night and the place was full, but we didn't feel ignored or rushed at any time. Our server was attentive and she brought out our drink order pretty quickly. A side note...they did have a couple tables that needed bussing, but they also looked to be short staffed (hiring sign in the window too) so we have been giving a pass to to restaurants these days if the "ambiance" is lacking because we know it is tough to hire people right now. However, it's really about the food. We loved our dinner at Sushi Garden. Everything from taste, quality and portion size was great. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend. This sushi restaurant is not an authentic, high-end Japanese dining experience and we didn't have any expectation that it would be. be prepared to pay a mandatory 10% to go fee ( that's a forced tip ) and if you try to contest since your just picking up and not dinning in they will say it's part of a California state law that it is mandatory to tip . they don't always close at 9 pm they close when they so choose too . also been having issues ive been told they only accept cash for pick up if you call before 8 pm and be prepared for the manager to change the rules to what he decides it to be . very poor business Handling . it's extremely frustrating especially when you order from them frequently. read more

First time to dine here and drove from Salinas for a lunch meeting. We were greeted and seated right away. They had plenty of servers to handle the lunch rush. Lunch menu had a good variety to chose from. Waitress gave us a generous bowl of salted edamame before taking our order. We had the "Rainbow and Chef Gone Wild" rolls. Each were fresh and had a better than average volume of seafood. We will definitely come back again and try the bento boxes and other specialty rolls. The place got a little busy but not overly crowded, no diner seemed to be neglected as the waitresses kept busy. The only negative (nothing to do with the restaurant) was driving thru the crowded parking lot to get there. Greeted by a host with his neck covered in hickeys. Pretty much all the tables are empty and dirty with dishes. Was told to take a seat, I sat for about 20 minutes, wasn't acknowledged at all. A to a person came after I did and was given water immediately. The Waiter and waitress seem to avoid my table not so much as a smile or "a will be right with you"so after about 25 minutes I got up and left.
