This is the sushi sister restaurant of Tempura Ichika. We didn't want to be weighed down by an omakase consisting entirely of tempura, so we opted for Sushi Ichika. Although Chef Ken is engaging, the sushi was consistently underwhelming and forgettable. We've had omakase across the US, and this just didn't deliver. The high points were whelk in the first course and the baby eels that were flown in from Japan. Everything else was disappointing, starting with the sushi rice, which just wasn't up to par with the elite sushi restaurants we've dined at. Although the $160 price tag for omakase in Honolulu is fairly reasonable, beware the automatic 18% service charge, which is not reasonable.

I went here for my bday dinner a week ago. Amazing food and experience. The chef and host/server were very kind and friendly. Intimate experience since there was only 5 of us. The course I chose was the "light omakase" option but felt totally full toward the end. It was so yummy! The chef also let us revisit any fish we liked or can choose whatever we didn't get try. Definitely recommend trying this resto if you like omakase. Reservations are a must too.

Amazing food that is not only fresh, but is artistic in form and flavor. Service is excellent and is smoothly managed by Ms. Yoko who is observant and thoughtful when it comes to the individual needs of each guest. Ambience is always calm and joyful and an amazing opportunity to meet other guests from around the world.

Right across from the Ala Moana shopping center, is a gem shared by two names -- Tempura Ichika and Sushi Ichika. The restaurant itself gives quite a high-end atmosphere filled with bright light and I believe a maple bar, with very authentic Japanese design. For the sushi portion of the restaurant, you'll be walked to your seat on the left side of the restaurant at a 6-seater bar. From there, your experience will begin with some simple appetizers and sashimi. We were served tea for free, as well as some soft drinks that we ordered in tall glasses. Tea was refilled very frequently showing great attentiveness -- a few times the tea even got cold in my cup and was replaced by hot tea. The appetizers I was served included mozuku--served with a bit of vinegar for a bright sort of sipping 'noodle' experience, kombu kazunoko -- light flavor little bit of a satisfying crunchy pop, and hotaru ika topped with sumiso ae all on top of a bed of cucumber and seaweed. Sweet, umami, very nice. Sashimi included chutoro and tai(?) -- bite sized and very tasty. Following the appetizer we were served a chip made of Nama-shirasu-- very crisp and light in flavor, almost a sort of drinking snack. For the Nigiri course: it started with nodoguro with sea salt and yuzu zest. Very delicious, not too fatty, for akamutsu. Following, came Spanish mackerel, with ginger topping. The ginger really helps mask the natural fishiness of mackerel. Then came Hokkaido hotate - surprisingly not that sweet, but very good texture. Zuke akami with yuzu -- the yuzu was very strong in flavor, marination was quite light. Then Hawaiian shrimp -- light snap with a sweet and smooth texture. Following the shrimp came another kitchen hot dish -- miso glazed butterfish topped with hajikami. Nice sweet glaze and the young ginger shoot with a light pickling gives good balance of hearty and acid. Next came salmon, slightly cooked around the edges -- gave good and interesting texture compared to the usual silky/slimy. Next came the kegani nigiri with uni. Very sweet, delicious. One of my favorites of the night. Following the crab, came the ikura topped with seaweed, yuzu zest, and wasabi. Tasty, not too strong in flavor. Next came the chawanmushi -- the best dish of the night in my opinion; filled with mochi, anago, ginkgo nut, oyster, and more. Delicious. Hot. The last bites included uni hand roll -- soooo buttery and sweet, my favorite uni I've had on the trip so far. Lastly was otoro using a special sumibiyaki style/technique of utilizing binchotan to sear the top. This gave it a sort of crispy texture on top, allowing some of the fat to melt away as well. Lastly was unagi with a little bit of sansho pepper on top. Tamagoyaki and miso soup to finish the meal. Yuzu sorbet for dessert. Very fresh, tasty, refreshing.

While I love dining at Tempura Ichika, I equally love Sushi Ichika! The seafood selections are so fresh, most flown in from Japan...some pieces I've tried here for the first time. I've been coming regularly since their opening and it's always exciting to see what fresh selections Chef Ken will prepare. I have my favorites here (uni, snow crab/uni, botan ebi, special scallop, otoro) but the seasonal fishes are such a treat! It's so fresh and natural that I hardly used any shoyu. I typically like the full course omakase $160 which comes with some hot dishes (chawamushi, butterfish, etc), but I'm also very pleased with the lighter omakase course $120 without the hot dishes, but still lots of sushi pieces. So between the impeccable tempura and superb sushi, dining here is definitely an experience I always look forward to. The ambiance is so warm and inviting that it makes for a great date night...or a night out with friends and family. Did I mention the service is fantastic too? They are attentive to fill my tea and promptly clear away finished dishes. A few times I had sake and I like the personal touch where I can select my sake glass. Definitely will not disappoint in dining here. I'll be back soon again!

There are meals one enjoys. Meals one admires. Meals one respectfully documents, notes the flavor balance of, and later describes using words like "elegant" and "well-executed." And then there are meals that rock your world. This was one of them. Kaiten sushi, or conveyor belt sushi, is a casual, affordable Japanese dining style invented in 1958 where plates of sushi rotate on a motorized belt passing diners, allowing them to select dishes directly. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, it's not the typical catwalk of pre-made maki rolls, nigiri, and other offering. You order off a kiosk and then it is fast-tracked to your table via sushi belt. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, you are granted the ability to try their Edomae-style sushi for a more affordable price. Edomae-style sushi is a traditional Tokyo cuisine originating in the 1820s, featuring seafood, often cured, marinated, or simmered, served atop rice seasoned with red vinegar (akasu). It focuses on enhancing fish flavor through technique rather than just raw freshness, historically acting as fast food for 19th-century Edo residents. That said, dare I say the best meal I had during my stay on Oahu? I DARE! This was an excellent place suggested by Randy S. I really can't tell you all we had because Randy took charge but every bite? Certified bangers. Not one bad bite had. Pro-tip: If you want to feel like you are being mugged by Neptune, the God of the Sea, have the chawanmushi. Oceanic and delish!

I miss seeing the sushi chef in person. The sushi that I had was delicious and the preparations were unique (to me) the pieces were smallish, but so yummy. I would have ordered more but I was not very assertive and everyone wanted the iPad . Most of the nigiri orders were only one at the price point I am used to paying for two and I prefer the experience of sharing. My husband at the other table sampled more than I did. Deep fried Octopus and Toro, I had Yellow Tail and Carpacio, sample two rolls. Big surprise, the French fries were outstanding. The check worked out to about 50 pp. I think that was mostly my husband who enjoyed an array of dishes. As mentioned in other reviews, the bill stacks up quickly. I given them 4 stars for uniqueness, mostly.

Cold, clean, glistening with that dangerous little shimmer that tells you somebody in the supply chain actually cared. You can taste the quality immediately. The kind of quality that silences a table for half a second. And credit where it is due: almost everything I tried ranged from very good to genuinely great. But then the room begins speaking. And suddenly the spell breaks. The atmosphere feels like someone took a serious sushi counter, stripped away all sensuality, all elegance, all ritual, then dropped it inside a fluorescent island diner where exhausted civilians came to discuss parking validation and Costco receipts. It is the culinary equivalent of wearing a Rolex with orthopedic sneakers. The contradiction never stops humming beneath the experience. You sit there eating beautiful fish while surrounded by an energy that feels strangely... transactional. Heavy. Casual in the least flattering way. A room with no mystery. No seduction. No gravity. Like Zippy's accidentally wandered into the tuna trade and struck gold. And on an island like Oahu, where atmosphere matters almost as much as the fish itself that becomes a real problem. Because sushi is not merely consumption. It is theater.Restraint.Texture.Whispered precision. The best sushi spots on Oahu understand this instinctively. They understand that exceptional fish alone is not enough. You are paying for transportive experience. For mood. For elegance. For the feeling that the evening exists slightly outside ordinary life. At Mitch's, the fish reaches for Tokyo while the room drags you back toward a tired strip mall off the freeway. And then there's the crowd. Not evil people. Not rude people. Just an oddly low-rent energy orbiting genuinely premium seafood. The kind of room where one table is eating remarkable otoro while another feels one argument away from discussing used-car financing over soy sauce packets. It creates dissonance. Especially considering the prices. Because at those prices, you begin comparing the full experience not merely the fish quality and that is where Mitch's stumbles hard. There are multiple sushi spots across Oahu that equal or surpass the seafood while also delivering beauty, atmosphere, intimacy, and actual emotional texture. So what remains is this strange contradiction: Mitch's serves fish far above the dignity of its own ambience Which almost makes it fascinating. Would I be back - no . You can get same and better quality fish, much better vine, better part of town for the same Price.

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.
