The Philly rolls were amazing, the cream cheese tasted soo good! We definitely plan on coming back! We came here for our first night dinner in Honolulu. We made prior reservations, although it is probably not needed, considering we arrived at 8pm. Their ordering system is through tablets in front of the seats, which is just like the places in Japan. The staff were all Japanese and most likely, the sushi chefs were also Japanese. They had many different selections of sushi, as well as some hot dishes. The fish were extremely flavorful. Upon the order being placed, the food arrives within 5- 8 minutes. I heard Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera just dropped their Summer Menu which is only available through August 31, so I brought my mom with me to try it out. We impressed by the amazing service and beautiful dinning area... even when you sitting at the counter it feel like a high end sushi place in Japan. The Garlic Ponzu Fatty Tuna was rich, buttery, and balanced perfectly by the ponzu. The Seared Yuzu Jalapeño Tai Snapper added just enough citrus and heat without overpowering the fish. My favorite of the night was probably the Aburi Kinmedai with Umami Oil & Lemon--the light sear brought out the natural sweetness of the fish while the lemon kept everything bright and refreshing. I also really enjoyed the Oil-Soy Tai Snapper with Fresh Salsa, which felt perfect for summer, and the Crispy Spicy Tuna Bites added a nice crunchy contrast to all the nigiri. What I appreciate most about Onodera is that even though it's conveyor-belt sushi, the quality consistently feels elevated. The fish is fresh, the flavors are thoughtfully balanced, and every plate looks as good as it tastes. The quality of the sushi was excellent and definitely felt premium. Ordering from the iPad was convenient, and everything came out quickly on the conveyor belt. My biggest complaint is the iPad menu. It felt cluttered and is harder to navigate than it should be with all the tabs and pages. It's like trying to find hidden items. The selection is also pretty limited, so there isn't much variety. I can see what they were going for with the Japan-style conveyor belt experience, but it doesn't quite compare. The staff was friendly and efficient, though there isn't much service involved beyond seating you and clearing plates. Overall, good quality food, but I was hoping for a wider selection. One of my nieces favorite places.This was a whole new sushi experience for me. Order on an iPad and the food whizzes in on a conveyer belt. I felt like Judy Jetson. The food came rather quickly. It is fun to see the other orders whizzing by. I was with a group of 9 so we were at. two different booths, only one iPad per table. The pesonal service was minimal. I miss seeing the sushi chef in person. The sushi that I had was delicious and the preparations were unique (to me) the pieces were smallish, but so yummy. I would have ordered more but I was not very assertive and everyone wanted the iPad . Most of the nigiri orders were only one at the price point I am used to paying for two and I prefer the experience of sharing. My husband at the other table sampled more than I did. Deep fried Octopus and Toro, I had Yellow Tail and Carpacio, sample two rolls. Big surprise, the French fries were outstanding. The check worked out to about 50 pp. I think that was mostly my husband who enjoyed an array of dishes. As mentioned in other reviews, the bill stacks up quickly. We ordered the chirashi sushi through Uber. As you can see in the picture, it looks just like a treasure box. The sushi rice is made with red vinegar instead of regular rice vinegar. Red vinegar contains more minerals and amino acids than standard rice vinegar, so that it is healthier. This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants to get premium bluefin tuna. This conveyer belt sushi restaurant is nothing like Genki. The quality of the fish and food is top notch. I usually go for the chu-toro or o-toro, but a lot of their other menu items are just as delicious. The quality of service and food is the same as their restaurants in Japan -- which is excellent. This is very much an order on iPad and get your food type of place. But nonetheless, the service is still great. The restaurant is bustling with activity, but still somehow feels intimate. It is on the pricier end for a conveyer belt sushi place, but, like I said, the quality of food is worth it. read more

I came back tonight after two weeks away and was so touched that the head chef came out personally to say goodbye before leaving for Houston. His kindness and gratitude truly reflect the spirit of this restaurant. Every visit here has been an excellent experience -- the food, the freshness, the presentation, and especially the warm hospitality. The foregoing is very common in Japan. Negatives: Uni was not fresh; The walls to the tables are too high. You cannot people watch. Unfortunately, the foregoing cannot be remedied bc the walls support the conveyor system; The ordering system took a while to understand; Yumiko (?) was super nice and helped us navigate the ordering system. All of the staff is super friendly and nice. Our dinner for 3 was reasonable at $100 each w/ liquor but b4 tip. Came here during my last Honolulu trip because my kid likes conveyer belt sushi and I want real sushi :) Made a reservation and got seated right away. You order on the iPad at the table. We tried Chu toro, scallop, a bunch of other real nigiri. We also ordered mixed tempura with veggies and one shrimp, it was quite expensive for $12. Chicken karaage was good, but pricey too. Service was minimum. You had to get waiter's attention to get anything, not attentive. The sushi quality was ok, not the best not the worst. Very good quality for cheap. You get what you pay for though. Sometimes the slices can be pretty thin. If you like specialty pieces like Nodoguro or Mehikari this is the place to go. But service is almost non existent which is fine but just be aware. You order everything through the iPad. Totally no frills just when you are craving good sushi and don't care so much about the overall experience. One year anniversary for the Honolulu Kaiten location (first in the US)! Anniversary special last weekend was half off their wagyu nigiri and aburi toro. This weekend (April 25-27) - all their bluefin tuna is half off! That's right! For regular, chutoro and otoro nigiri, all the one piece, four piece and eight piece sets are half off!! Made reservations about a week in advance for today. Very efficient and clean. 90 minutes to eat. The food came out lightning fast. The regular ahi was so good this day!! Chutoro was good too. I got one of the snow crab and ikura chawanmushi, but it was a little fishy and unpleasant this time. Not terrible but not good either. Maybe a one off. The soy braised ikura nigiri is always so worth it. The salmon set (salmon, salmon belly, aburi salmon) was particular good. I think Kaiten Onadera definitely stepped up their game this time around. The sushi rice is as good as ever but they've improved tremendously on the ratio of rice to raw fish. The fish slices on the nigiri were substantially thicker than the times I went to the grand opening in Houston and the Honolulu location in Nov 2024. Portioning on the "less rice" option was perfect! Not too much rice. Could really taste how amazing the bluefin was tonight! So very pleased. Even the wasabi and ginger portions are better per order. Dined here for the first time tonight in a group of four. Total came out to under $500 excluding tip. It's expensive, but it's quality sushi! Their omakase branch is located in Kapahulu and starts at $300/person. Everything can be ordered through the iPad on the counter, including tea, gari, and wasabi. I believe there's a maximum of 4 items that you can place per order (which didn't make sense to me because you can place as many orders as you want, you don't have to wait for the order to arrive to your table). The iPad was a little tricky and glitchy but you can manage. It's stationed against the conveyor belt but it can be unplugged and passed around. The food was delicious! We did wish that the aburi scallops were seared a bit more. I was hoping to eat natto temaki but they only offered natto in gunkan and maki form. Otherwise, sushi was fresh and good quality. Ice cream was enjoyed, although the kurogoma didn't taste as expected. It was lighter than what I'm used to, but still very creamy. Warabi mochi was 10/10 but also pricey for the small quantity. After you're done, you can close out on the iPad and you have to pay at the cashier desk up in the front of the restaurant before leaving. Overall, don't come here if you're hungry and looking for a cheap meal.. but if you're looking for high quality sushi and willing to spend the money for it, I recommend! read more

But they were out of the Purple. What does that mean? No clue. I like what I like, but I don't always know what it is. But the Green was pretty damn good. While the sushi was melt in your mouth delicious, we noticed during our meal the iPad had the happy hour advertisement running as everyday from 3-6, we were eating at 3:30pm, so we decided to order some additional drinks. While the menu didn't displace the happy hour price, we thought then it must be applied on the final check. We asked the server about it toward the end of the meal, and she went to go check with a manager. She came back to tell us that happy hour specials do not apply for when there is any menu special, mind you we only got 4 drinks. Okay fine- but upon looking at their posts for happy hour or the specials it is NOT listed anywhere that it does not apply, we mentioned that and she just said sorry. For future reference it would be good to advertise that on the social media posts or not have the happy hour advertisement running. This along with lack luster service (primarily everything is received via conveyor belt) no one informed us for payment to go up to the register so we we're waiting, and no water refills, made it an okay experience.
