I ordered the veggie bento which consisted of inari sushi and veggie rolls cut into pieces. I was happy to see the veggie rolls included avocado which some places get cheap and fill it with cucumber carrots and lettuce. Such good flavor with cucumber, avocado, daikon, kanpyo, and lettuce. First visit here was on 6-20-2024. When you enter the parking lot you see the name Domo Café front and center. Tip: find a parking space to the right because their door opens around the corner. It was pretty surprising to see how busy this restaurant is with many people going in and coming out with their orders in a pretty consistent stream. They have refrigerated beverages on the far right corner. Right in front of the cashier they have a low sandwich board listing specials and even fresh fish for sale. They are equipped for handling a party of 20+ if you preorder. The 2 tables on the left are separated by a panel but can be removed to view the door opening and the additional tables on the right. There is a trash receptacle by the door to bus your table when you are done with your meal. If you are a shopper, go to KAHALA mall across the intersection then come here for a meal that will satisfy your senses: sight, taste, smell, touch ... our party was having a good time so I didn't notice if there was any background music but 4 out of 5 senses is awesome, right? I finally came out here to try this place. I went with the E1 Mixed Poke Bowl $14.95. It came with the shoyu ahi and spicy ahi mix. The spicy ahi was topped with unagi sauce. Their fish is fresh and never frozen. I could totally taste the difference. It was smooth, firm and melted in my mouth. Two or three pieces of the ahi did have sinew, but it wasn't that bad. They gave a decent amount of fish on sushi rice, which I love. Poke just doesn't do it for me on plain white rice. I'll get the sushi rice every time if they have it. I can understand when people say that there's a language barrier. They speak limited English. However, I spoke to them in Chinese, so it was all good. We usually order the premium nigiri platter which is about $70. I called in and they said it would take 30 mins. Showed up 30 mins later and the parking was really crowded but I got a stall. Went inside to pay and then had to wait about 5 mins more for the platter. My favorites are the hamachi and salmon. We arrived about 7pm on a Thursday and it was fairly crowded. We ordered and the nice cashier suggested I get a mixed bowl since my friend got the seared salmon bowl. It took about 15 minutes for us to get food which was longer than I expected since it's a small restaurant with only about 6-7 tables. Nonetheless, the food was great. I should have ordered the seared salmon cuz it was incredible. Buttery and smooth with some sweeter sauce. The mixed bowl was not bad but not as good as the seared salmon. CeCe and I were between Hawaii Kai Costco and Wholesale Unlimited at Kuono Marketplace when I suggested that we have lunch here. It was convenient with free shared parking and efficient, friendly service. The shop is spacious and clean! The air conditioning was much appreciated! We were able to dine in as there are two dining areas on each side of the restaurant. I got the Cali Salmon Bowl (E7) because it's colorful! The imitation crab salad and chunks of avocado were interesting. The fresh salmon and ahi needed no extra seasoning! I'd return again for the garlic sushi set (B5). I've had it at their Chinatown location, and it was delicious! I have also ordered a party Platter in Chinatown (because it's closer to my mom's house), but the parking is challenging. Thanks to a recent Yelp Elite Event (YEE) at Domo Cafe Kahala, I was reminded about their use of sashimi-grade fish in their poke recipes and sushi. During the YEE, we sampled their signature fresh yuzu ahi poke bowl and received a sushi set for takeout. We remembered the minimal or no seasonings to the fresh fish allowed the fresh and clean taste of the fish to shine in the dishes, so we returned after working out at our gym. The Kahala location is ideal since it's situated at the corner of Wai'alae and Kīlauea Avenues, with a small shared parking lot fronting the business. However, since we were already at Kahala Mall, we just walked a block over. Upon entry to Domo Cafe, a female counter worker greeted us with a brilliant and friendly smile. We decided to get their poke bowls before entering since we had taken a takeout menu from our first visit during the YEE, so we stepped up to place our order right away. Several tables were open for dine-in, so we chose to enjoy the comfortable, air-conditioned, clean, and bright cafe. My husband requested the Cali Salmon Poke Bowl for $15.95, and I got the Signature Yuzu Ahi Poke Bowl for $13.95 + Tobiko for $2.50. Both bowls were delicious and generously portioned. We agreed the quality and texture of the rice made a big difference in the overall flavor enhancement. We were comfortably satiated with portions and felt the freshness and flavors were worth the value. Also, eating poke bowls after working out is a healthier choice than what my fried food-loving husband usually suggests. We'll be back when we're in the Kahala neighborhood, again! read more
