    Miso soup

I called in an order to go, for pick up. The California roll I ordered was not made with crab - it had shrimp and did not have sesame seeds and the rice was very gummy. Ordered miso soup also( it was hot) and when I picked it up, the lady could not stop telling me to put it in my drink holder in my car, this is not my first time to order miso soup to go. Ordered vegetable dumplings, and they were green you can reference the picture, they did not taste that great and there was hardly any vegetable stuffing in it. The chicken Katsu was the only great thing I don't think this sushi place really knows how to do. Sushi rolls. Honestly they were cut very odd and were gigantic. This might be the only spot to get sushi because it's such a small town and maybe the locals own it but definitely need to find a different place. The next time I visit.

Been eating here for years, its in my neighborhood and its still consistently good. Alright, first some guidelines - this is the ONLY Sushi restuarant in this little town and its busy busy and then busy some more when its open for dinner. On the weekends it can be out the door. Its a small interior dining room as well, so seating is a premium - so keep that in mind if you arrive at prime dinner time with no reservations on a saturday - dont whine about waiting or complaint about being rushed. This place does seriously, ten times the amount of take out on a saturday night than it seats period. My recent visit, once again - with reservations - a five minute wait (without at least 45 minutes or more) and by the time I left, it was out the door. Even with prompt seating, there is only one waiter maybe two, one expeditor who is always running food and a front hostess who I watched answer and take to go orders (literally 20-30 plus orders) non stop during my hour and a fifteen minute meal - with all the tables being spread out now, its only about seven or eight tops and a few of those are only two seats. My point, its a small place with maybe 30 seats and always busy, the servers are always running and your food is always made to order - it may take a minute to get to you, be kind. The food has been consistently good over the years, tonight the same, yes there may be better - but its the only game in this little town. I try to always make reservations during prime time dinner hours or show up when its not busy. The nightly (daily) specials always tend to be good, and whats locally fresh. The Saki selection is decent and the house brand is pretty good. Almost every server I have encountered there in all my visits has tried their best, and I have never seen anyone just standing around thats working the front of the house. So especially considering the last couple years we have all endured, I am for one glad my little sushi place is still open. Tonight the Poke was so fresh and delicious, and the Pork belly was exceptional, the nightly special I went with once again proved also to be a good choice, with local dungeness crab being in season. And the honey crunch roll never fails. The server tonight, though spread thinly was professional and courteous, yes it took a few extra minutes, it is what it is - on a packed weekend night. 4 Stars - make reservations and expect a wait or order it to go... its seems like thats what most folks are doing by what I saw tonight

Overcooked Chashu pork belly felt like a gristly pork loin.

Disappointing, bad assortment of fish. Has the feel of a dirty pizza shop. The spicy edamame is not good it has a weird sauce.

Yum! These guys make great sushi. And they stayed open and survived the pandemic! If you like sushi you'll find something there no problem.

I'm hoping this helps another vegan out there, or anyone really. We came in for an early ish dinner. At the time it was pretty mellow but that was appreciated because we just needed to relax and enjoy sitting down after hiking the last few days. Something fresh and not too rich where we could take out time and not feel gross. I was curious about the soul options being vegan or not because miso usually isn't, but they had this yummy sounding mushroom and veggie broth soup with vegetables and tofu (I think it's called Kenshin jiru but I might be absolutely butchering that). GET IT! It's not too heavy but has such a great flavor, plus the fresh veggies and bits of raw tofu for protein (they accidentally forgot the tofu but when I asked my server if they could just bring it on the side for me they were super nice about it). I also got some standard edamame and avocado maki roll, both of these were "fine", they did the trick but weren't amazing. My partner had the large hot sake which he loved, and then a tuna maki roll and the omakase nigiri. Same thing with his maki, fine nothing to write home about, but he loooved his omakase. They didn't tell us what was on it but I think it was albacore, salmon, salmon roe, mackerel, yellowtail, and tuna. He said it was some of the best tasting fish/nigiri he's had in a while. Our server was great at refilling our waters and checking in making sure we had everything and was just very sweet, so we appreciated them a lot. We'd definitely recommend!

It's hard to believe that you're still in Humboldt county when you enter in! The workers are all very kind and knowledgeable. They are able to make accommodation or alterations as necessary. Despite that, the food in general leaves more to be desired. The fish is definitely high quality! But perhaps the rice should be a bit more fluffy, and more flavorful. The batter on the tempura was a bit too thick and ultimately caused it to not be cooked all the way. I think the sauces can also be better prepared-- they taste a bit prepackaged and not really homemade. I'd be willing to come again and not order rolls but instead focus on the nigiri or the chirashi bowl.

So beware and check the weather before going and dress accordingly. It's nice on sunny days but then you have to be mindful of the UV. I appreciate our waitress getting our drinks and food out to us through the chaos of people being seated outside, then being reseated inside when room opened up, or like one table, just leaving! Their plum sake is very good, smooth and light. I also got a hot tea but that was only hot for a moment out there, the sake definitely did more to keep us warm. Their ramen bowls are now my favorite in downtown, the pork is DELICIOUS, the broth could be a drink on its own and the marinated egg has a perfectly soft yolk; it's a very pretty dish. My favorite sushi is split between the Russian roulette and the ocean queen (I think that's its name).

I left with the worst heartburn and likely due to whatever they fried it in. Golden salmon "specialty" roll. Meh. I've had a lot better at the other locally sushi places. Service: horrible. The place was 30 per cent full. It's Humboldt so I don't expect service to be quick. But the attitude of the wait person was abominable. I felt like we were wasting their time. Like they had somewhere else to be. Mind you this was 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. We saw them once again when they slapped down the check. Then they came to get it a few minutes later and we felt hurried out the door. The bus person was seen whisking food and debris off the tables instead of wiping them down. Several tables. The waiter's attitude was hurried, impatient, and not even a "how is your meal". Ambience: it was nice to be out on the deck. Otherwise nothing special. The host podium is crowded with stuff around it. It looks like they are storing things in the entrance. After hearing so much about how nice and it was, I was disappointed. I'd eat somewhere else and ride the elevator up to walk around the non-restaurant part of the rooftop to see the view. Honestly.
