This place is DELICIOUS. People who disagree are fundamentally insane and must have broken / over saturated tastebuds from eating too much processed food. Not only is the food here relatively affordable, but the portions are generous, and the service is the most friendly I've experienced in this area. The servers and staff are genuinely good humans who I enjoy seeing each time I eat here. You can get plenty of mediocre food all around this area, but Susukino is one of the places I feel confident my money will always be well spent. The restaurant has a swanky, cool vibe. The food is fresh, creative, and authentic. You can't go wrong. I think a lot of people who go out to eat "ramen" are used to what comes in the plastic bags, and are expecting that consistency and high salt level. This is not that ramen. I did not expect to find a solid ramen place in Arcata, but nonetheless it happened! Came on a Sunday night for 2 and had to wait around 15-20 minutes which was okay as we just went down the street to buy some things from the grocery store while we waited. I will say that I think that they could use their space a bit better and put in a couple more tables. I ordered the mild spicy Tan Tan ramen, which was quite good. I liked the bamboo shoots, and the broth was rich and delicious. The pork didn't have much flavor but it counteracted well, as the rest of the dish was pretty heavy. We were kicked out and told to come back. 5:03 were dismissed again. 5:10 were allowed back in. Waitress sits us as first table directly under tv, points it out to us, and then leaves. I arrived minutes early due to always seeing a line out the door. It was busy/empty. As soon as we walked in I noticed the restaurant looked clean. The main draw back was the order of half ramen was small in portion and too salty with little noodles. I guess I should have ordered more for my ramen like vegetables and more since the soup was sad and basic. Finally got a chance to try the only ramen spot in Humboldt. Got it to go so can't speak on service and ambiance except for what I briefly observed. So I'll stick mostly to the food. I had Shoya ramen. But FYI, I've had ramen in little Japan and New York City. and this is Arcata so I'm just happy to have this option. That's why I have it a 4. But it's would still be a 3 if it had 5 comp. Broth. Was not a 5 but good. Had the legit flavor b it not the depth of what I've had in NYC. Pork was very good in flavor. Portions of meet were decent and filled me up and i respect it was an American supersized portion. Great great experience. My wife and I went tonight for the first time and enjoyed it greatly. We have been to Japan (and are going again next month) and have been looking for good ramen in Humboldt. Problem solved. Got there right at dinner opening at 5 pm and glad we did. It filled up quick. We shared the Zangi Chicken (wonderful), each had the cucumber salad (Sunomono?) and each had a bowl of ramen. I had the Shoyu and my wife had the San Ran. Chasu isn't even charcoal grilled. Bay Area pricing but without the Bay Area standards. I'm sure this would taste great to people who haven't eaten really good ramen in the Bay and in Japan before. Big issue I had was the cleanliness and organization at the bar. Hands weren't wiped after they got liquids on it. So dirty hands were touching bottles, the lemons etc. tongs exist!!
