I always try to be honest in my reviews, so here's my take. Please don't read too much into the negative reviews here. This place is exactly what you're looking for in an all you can eat sushi place in downtown Ottawa. Given how pricy it is to eat sushi these days, $38 per person (as I'm writing this review), is a pretty good deal for what you get. Hands down some of the best shrimp tempura I've had in my life. Lightly battered, perfectly fried. Great edamame. The food doesn't quite get a 5 stars from me as the sushi is a bit heavy on the sticky rice. But the options, variety and taste is definitely 5/5. As an aside, I recommend the sashimi (thinly sliced raw fish). I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and tasty the tuna, salmon, and razor clam was. If you like sake, they have a good $12/bottle option for two available! read more

Would not recommend this place to anyone. Avoid at all costs. The service is horrendous, rude, slow, and any other negative adjective that you can think of! The food is mediocre at best, unless you want to eat nigiri or rolls that are 90% rice or sashimi that is paper thin We started with a few rolls and nigiri and discovered they weren't great. The rolls ended up being so stuffed with rice (an obvious attempt to fill you up at low cost) that we ended up leaving a lot of rice on the plate. The sashimi came out lukewarm and was super unappetizing. The cooked food was decent, but like the sushi, the tempura was coated in batter sooo heavily that you couldn't even see the shrimp inside. Because we didn't enjoy the majority of the food, a lot was left on the plates. Low and behold, our server complains to some bald dude (assume it was the floor manager) about the leftovers and it (yes, IT) has the gall to come out and lecture us about the waste and a potential extra charge. This completely ruined an already bad experience. No extra charges were applied, but this was unacceptable behaviour from a restaurant. At least ask why the food wasn't enjoyable before jumping to the conclusion that we were trying to take advantage of an AYCE restaurant. Until they learn some basic customer service 101.. I've been going to Sushi Village for years. Well I stopped around 2018 after I kept finding these little white bugs buried under the edamame, as well as the rolls with avocado id order would have overly ripe avocados(they were half brown). I stopped going for years after that, I was just way too grossed out until I went back there in April 2022. It looks like the standards have changed and the food overall looked better, tasted better and the little food delivery robot is such a nice touch. I rate 4 stars now because of the changes they've made, there are things they still need to work on. read more

We came in at around 2 in the afternoon, so there was little activity going on. The setting was an attempt to be modish, but it ends up being lackluster in theme. Mandopop was playing in the background; makes sense, given that the staff were communicating in Mandarin. Service was simply disappointing. Even at off-peak hours, they managed to miss some items from my friend's order. In addition, I received my appetizers (edamame and seafood soup) after I finished most of my rolls. This detracted from my experience there quite significantly. In terms of food, I ordered: - A bowl of edamame; - Seafood soup; - 1 shrimp tempura; - 2 unagi hand rolls; - 12 dynamite maki rolls; - 6 salmon and avocado maki rolls; and - 6 "crunchy" mango banana rolls. The name of the game is freshness. Some of the edamame pods appeared to be brown. The salmon in the maki rolls did not look fresh at all. The quality of sushi rolling needs significant improvement; the rice from the rolls just seemed to be "flaking" off whenever I contacted it. The dessert rolls seem to be pressed into its shape, without even being rolled. Should you decide to eat here (heaven forbid), be aware of the 10 percent service fee on top of the taxed price. I've been here on multiple occasions - I guess because of their location is so convenient. They have all-you-can-eat option and you can also order every item separately. The menu has a lot of options besides sushi so if you are not a sushi fan - you will still have plenty of choice. Their ramen is not the best so I would not recommend it. The sushi tastes good and is usually fresh but their sizes are minuscule - it is a fair deal only if you opt for all-you-can-eat (note that the prices vary depending on the days of the week and dinner is more expensive). The food overall is ok - nothing special but not too bad. Other things to note is that there is shortage of employees even when it is not busy and the food takes quite long to be served compared to other sushi places. read more

On EASTER Monday 2020 and in quarantine due to the Corona virus I decided to order some sushi from a nearby restaurant. Even though the neighbourhood is a little seedy I figured(wrongly) that the food would have to be good in order for them to survive . So I ordered nearly $50.00 worth of sushi for lunch. I got very prompt and courteous service from UBEREATS's driver, but the rest of the experience was UNDERWHELMING. First of all most of the order was wrong as well as you can see by the photo the presentation was awful and the food was just seedy neighbourhood slightly better. Luckily UBEREATS gave me a very quick refund. There is,however, a lump in my stomach from the terrible food.I should have read the reviews on yelp before ordering. read more

This is probably the worst AYCE sushi buffet. Salmon is totally not fresh (the colour showed that the fish has been left for 2 days). The hot plates take forever and when it came and it's not cooked. The service was 1/5, it takes forever for food To come and forever for them to refill tea I would not recommend this restaurant at all. The Washroom smells terrible. I have been ordering from and going to this place for some time now and every time there is a different issue but I've always been willing to give it another chance. I've had the 10% service charge added to my bill. Which I have no problem with but it would of been nice to know since we tipped an extra 20% on the bill despite the fact that the service was garbage and we were asked not to use the washroom for the rest of the night because it was just cleaned. While ordering take out several times I have been shorted on the amount of sashimi pieces I'm supposed to receive and when you mention this they say it's an error on the website and that we were given the right amount. I've also been shorted on the amount of rolls I'm supposed to receive. Order a roll that should have 6 to it and only get 4. Tonight's order the rolls are about half the size they should be... big rolls have been condensed into these tiny little things and some barely have any content to them. One tuna roll is literally just rice. I have had my fill of disappointing experiences here. This place is not worth the time or the money. A friend and I checked out Sushi Village last night on a whim, because we've walked by it a hundred times and hadn't gone yet. She had the all-you-can-eat and I ordered a la carte. I was impressed by the a la carte menu - lots to choose from, and reasonably priced. I left satiated only having paid $15 plus tip. My friend enjoyed her food too. However, I have to knock the service. While everyone we encountered was pleasant, they just weren't attentive. My friend filled out her whole list of food she wanted to order and handed it in. A waiter comes by later on and warns us that last call is coming and we should put our order in. She told him that she had, so instead of offering to go check with the kitchen, he suggested she fill out at new one. That is weak customer service. Yes, we showed up an hour before they closed, but there is really no excuse. That gave us a whole hour to eat and leave. They started to mop while we were eating, and I was put off by the smell of bleach. Hey, I used to work in a restaurant too, so I know what it's like to want to clean up and get the hell out of there. But their service really burned what would have been a decent meal. read more

They had the audacity to include 10% service charge in the bill, slap a tax on top of it and give the terminal that asked about the tip again. That service charge was never mentioned. So is it 2 pieces max per table or person. I can't understand their English or lack of it. This place is terrible. I cannot even believe that I am giving one star. I hope I could give ZERO stars. This is one of those non-fresh all you can eat sushi restaurant but the service is terrible. Don't forget to notify the clerk if any food was rotten or burnt because if you do not tell the right away when the waiter brings it, they will charge you for ANYTHING you didn't eat. Other all you can eat sushi restaurant is flexible if you couldn't finish one or two dishes but this one is different. When I went to pay, they charged me $6 extra for just leaving 4 pieces of sushi and when I said I will finish it, it was after they cleaned up. So I was forced to pay the extra. When I tried to argue about this, cashier acted as if she couldn't speak English. Also, another information, the soy sauce they use is not what is on the label. It is not Kikkoman. I live this place and its selection. The craziest thing that they have that I have only seen here is the banana sushi, which is a banana sliced up, wrapped in rice paper, and with some crunchy bits added. Went for lunch with the SO who isn't really into sushi. Having said that, the food options are pretty solid, with a decent assortment of sushi, Chinese dishes, teriyaki and soup. However, the service was abysmal. Server who wouldn't say a word if their life depended on it which was a bad start but then ignored what we ordered! Even the other tables were getting irritated. Spent about an hour and a half in there (not including waiting for a table as that is beyond their control) for lunch. 80% of that waiting for food as it is incredibly slow. I have eaten a lot of AYCE sushi in my life and this is the worst place I have ever been to. We ordered sashimi and I found a BONE in the salmon sashimi. That has never happened to me before and it is appalling if they can't even cut a piece of sashimi correctly. The tempura and anything fried was too oily and the maki was falling apart. The best thing on the menu was the fried udon noodles. For a sushi place, that's probably not a good indication. We tried a few of the rolls, none of them great. I personally found that food court sushi would have been a step above. The salmon and red tuna sashimi was not fresh and cut with what looked like a regular kitchen knife. The fried beef udon and the spicy beef udon in soup were pretty good, as were the seaweed salad and beef ribs. But it's disappointing that the sushi was really off-putting. I just finished eating here about an hour ago with a friend. I have never left a restaurant feeling so disgusting. The restaurant closed at 10 pm and we got there at 9pm. We realized how late it was and asked if we could still eat as we did not want to be an inconvenience. The server said it was no problem, but that last call was at 9:30, which was fine. As soon as we sat down (we were one of two tables there, the other table was almost finished their meal), at around 9:05, a full 55 minutes before close, they started mopping the floors with bleach. The smell was super off-putting, and the server who was mopping restricted my friend from entering the bathroom because he 'needed to clean for closing'. We ordered AYCE at 9:20, 10 minutes before last call. Knowing how close it was to close, we did not order a lot of food, because the policy here is that you pay for whatever you do not finish. When the food arrived everything that was suppose to be hot was ice cold (miso soup, hot and sour soup, teriyaki salmon) the ONLY thing that was hot was anything fried, but the oil was so disgusting that it was inedible. I ordered one chicken wing and it came in a bowl of ketchup. A salmon hand roll we ordered also came without any salmon in it, and when this was pointed out we were accused of eating the salmon out of the hand roll!!!!!!!!!!!. All of the food was finished being served to us at around 9:45. Needless to say that we unfortunately couldn't stomach anything that was fried (including sushi rolls with tempura or tempura bits - the oil was literally dripping off of the rolls), however we were fine to pay the extra charges of what we didn't eat, as it was a policy and only fair. HOWEVER, at around 9:55, only 10 minutes after serving us our full order, a server came around and told us we would have to pay for whatever we didn't finish by 10pm!!!!!! THAT is when i put my foot down and said how sub-par the food was. I have worked in restaurants before and I would NEVER rush a customer out the door before the establishment was even set to close, threatening them with a higher fee if they didn't 'hurry up'! If we had to finish our food by 10 or PAY MORE that is something I should have been told when i asked if it was okay to stay for ACYE at 9pm when i walked into the establishment. When we told the server we would not be paying the extra fees, she LAUGHED IN OUR FACES, YELLED SOMETHING (not in english, so I could not make it out) TO THE OTHER SERVERS AND LINE WORKERS, AND THEY ALL PROCEEDED TO YELL TOWARDS US AND WITH EACH OTHER. I have NEVER been so mistreated at an establishment and will absolutely never be going back. Save yourself the 30 dollar dinner ACYE fee and go to an establishment where you will be treated better as a paying customer. A+ Sushi is WAY WAY WAY better. read more
