Recently, I contracted with SavaTree/Sussex Tree to remove a large oak tree, grind two stumps, and trim a couple of others trees. I have to say the crew from SavaTree/Sussex Tree did a fantastic job! They came to my home, knew what needed to be done, then started work right away. They waisted no time taking down the large oak as well as trimming the other trees. The two stumps were ground down and they cleaned up the mulch leaving no mess. They worked as an efficient team. It was a pleasure to watch them work. I just read all 4 other reviews, mostly whining that I could see. Feb. 15 2024, Had Sussex Tree/Saveatree, come out to give me a proposal a couple weeks ago, I got the email with the proposal later that evening. I had guestimated a somewhat higher price and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the proposal. They worked with me for a date for the works to get done. We've used Sussex Tree several times in the 9 years we've lived in Lewes, DE. Every time has been a real pleasure. This week, they removed 3 dead trees that were located behind a fence and in a fairly delicate area. They managed to leave no trace of having been there. No damage to the fence or the other trees, and they even took care to not damage the uplights that were on one of the trees removed. Josh King, the crew leader, was extremely easy to deal with and his entire crew got this fairly big job taken care of in very little time. We had a very large tree removed using this company (STI) in Lewes. The tree removal went without a hitch. However we also hired them to plant a Dogwood. They planted it hours before a NorEaster. The tree was beaten by the winds and consequently died. 13 calls and 3 visits later they replaced the dead tree July 7. 20 days later this tree is dying or dead. As a tree company they should be aware of the types of trees to plant in what type of soil. So far i have sent a photo of the tree and texted twice. A call was placed again today. Their customer service is terrible but they are great in taking your money. As Seniors we don't have extra money to throw away. We looked to a tree company for advice on what tree to plant, and how to care for it. Don't waste your time or money. We will have to take them to court to get our money back I'm afraid. read more

I just bought a house and one requirement was that the previous owner have some trees planted per a city ordinance about landscaping. The previous owner reached out too Sussex tree for a PROPOSAL for what it would cost to plant four trees on the property. Fast forward two months. I need to have the work done and have schedueled it for next week with another company. I'm away from the house on Tuesday and the previous owner sends me an invoice they got for the tree planting. I thought there was a mistake, but low and behold Sussex just showed up and planted all the trees with out so much as a phone call. I never signed a document to start the work, the previous owner never signed a document to start the work, they never reached out before, during or after they did the job, they just did it and never told anyone. On top of all that, they planted the wrong trees from an old plan because THEY NEVER BOTHERED TO SPEAK TO ANYONE. I called and when I told them the issue they were curt on the phone, and kept telling me it was approved by the previous owner (who I know and did not approve the work). They said they'd fix it, and they did. They came and pulled all the trees out leaving gaping mud pits in my grass. They threw some grass seed down instead of replacing the sod. This whole situation was complete amateur-hour, and not once did anybody explain to me how it happened or apologize for their ineptitude. They acted as if the entire thing was my fault. They might have a high rating but I'd stay away from this company if youre looking for reputable work done with clear communication. It's been two weeks and still no sod and no apology. A bunch of us in Milford got hit badly by the storms this past week. I googled "arborist tree damage" and sent off requests for estimates to several companies. Well, let me tell you about Sussex Tree, Inc./SavATree in Bridgeville. They contacted me within 2 hrs from me hitting the send key. A person was here by 7:45am the next day. The crew arrived early two days later. This Thursday the crew worked for 6 hours in the on and off rain to remove broken trunks and trim dead and dangerous branches before tropical storm Debby came through. We also felt the cost was below what we paid for tree removal in the past. They laid down platforms to keep our lawn from getting rutted up and left the yard spotless. We are so impressed. If I could give zero stars I would. This company did a job on a neighbor's home and used my house as a parking lot and a walking path for the job. They were doing work at my neighbor's home. Slipshot work, inexperienced people driving heavy machinery and safety measures were not up to par. Osha would've had a field day. I wouldn't use this company if they paid me. When I tried to contact the company, I never got any response. If I would have got a response. I might have given them one star... Warning:: Just because a company is "bigger" does not mean they are better. Hired them to take down trees and remove wood. They did half the job. My 89 year old Dad had paid them prior to work completion since he assumes all people are honorable, as he is. We now need to hire a different company to complete the job. read more
