Sutro Power did a fantastic job installing my solar system. JP and his team were willing to work with me to install under some unusual circumstances that made some extra coordination required (we were reroofing around the same time as we needed to install - Sutro Power team worked with our roofer to add solar attachments during that process). They were reliable and good communicators. All in all, they did our installation for a fair price and finished sooner than we were expecting. I have been in the solar industry for 15 years, so I know what quality work looks like when it comes to PV installation. Our installation is clean and looks great. I love that they're a local employee owned business. Definitely reach out to them if you're looking for solar installation in San Francisco.

JP and his crew were able to help me out with solar installation at my house (27th ave & Lawton) in the SF sunset neighborhood. The short of it is that if I were to do it all over again, I'd still work with JP. He was responsive and very much context-sensitive to what I was trying to do. We were able to work together and come up with a solution that worked for me. The longer story is that I was building out my house at the time and I wanted to have solar panels installed as part of the project. Almost every single large installers that I had talked to refused to work with me because they only wanted to install the system after a house is completed. I suppose my situation was quite different than most because I wanted the system to be integrated into everything I was were trying to do with the house at the time so that I could ensure things are done correctly. I didn't want to get into the situation when there's a leak, the solar installers and builders are pointing at each other for the responsibility. I wanted both parties to be responsible for the outcome together. Anyways, JP was easy to work with and was able to come up with a design that I was happy with too. There's just a lot of design tradeoffs in this kind of thing and there were decisions that I wanted to be a part of. I had a lot of fun going through the project with his team. I've had the system for almost two years now and I'm happy to say that I haven't had any issues and I'm loving it! I also love the fact that JP hosts an annual crab feed for his customers. It's fun and I love that he's in it for the people of San Francisco!

We had a great experience with Sutro power for a solar installation on our 100+ year old house. Our project was quite complicated due to the steep pitch of our roof and a number of existing dormers that limited the area we could put solar. Sutro was one of the only companies we spoke to that was even willing to work on a pitch that steep. JP, Juliano, and the whole team came up with a custom design to maximize our power output with 19 panels squeezed in as much as possible to catch the sun at as many hours of the day as possible. Only because of that effort we were able to get a system that worked great for our growing power consumption while adhering to the various building code requirements. Before, during, and after the project they were excellent and responsive communicators. During construction, when an extremely unlikely event occurred where a drill nicked a power line in the rafters, JP and team jumped all over it, promptly (and safely) addressing the issue, and then patching and painting to cover the repair work, all handled without haggling over fault or cost. All minor decisions such as the location of the shutoff switch, a change in the specific model of panel (and reduction in cost) were handled smoothly and transparently. All in all we were very happy with our experience, and I would not hesitate to recommend them for another job and would happily be int touch with them myself for any future solar needs.

4kW system installed in Richmond district by the team that now comprises Sutro Power
Dee L.

JP and his team at Sutro Power sold and installed my modest 4kW system in the Richmond district when they worked at another company (in 2019). While at that company, JP was a very responsive consultant and answered my countless questions with great patience and detail. The installation went well enough for me to recommend his team to my parents, who were also looking for a PV system. Midway through my parents' permitting process (prior to installation), JP informed me and the core members of that team were leaving and forming their own company, Sutro Power. He told me to contact him with any questions even though he was no longer affiliated with his old company. Unfortunately, the installation for the old company was a disaster and it is evident that the difference between my project and my parents' project was directly related to the personnel involved with the project. I learned from the remaining project manager that the majority of the team had left on their own accord, and in my escalations to the CEO, I concluded that there were management issues with that company. The silver lining to this was that JP answered my calls and provided guidance during this "crisis", which reflected his integrity and professionalism. That consistency, along with the solid installation of my own system, are why I continue to recommend him and the Sutro Power team to my friends. Over a year onward, JP continually checks in to see how my system is performing and he sends me no-sales-pressure information about the latest in storage technology as I had expressed interest in a battery for my home. He remains upfront about his pricing and the latest technologies (i.e. where the costs are and how to choose between different panels/batteries/inverters, and his transparency is unmatched among the other vendors in the area. It is also a huge plus that this is a local, small business that qualifies for the SF Installer rebate incentive. Even without that incentive, his pricing is very competitive.

Hello everyone, I…read morehad a great experience with Solar Sesame. I had my system installed in December 2025 and wanted to wait a bit to see how SS and GoodLeap handle follow-up on the project, Closeout issues, and customer service follow-up. Since my December 2025 installation and the January 2026 activation with PG&E, I have been more than happy with their service. I had put off getting solar for a while (bad decision on my part), so when the $1,100 PG&E bill came in last summer, I knew it was time for a change. Solar Sesame's pricing consultation was pleasant and informative. I had done plenty of research, so I knew my stuff, and being in Construction helped as well. Both their Sales Rep and Installation Lead were informed and knew their stuff. My Project Submittal documents to the City of Danville were professionally done. The building permit was obtained quickly, and the installation was completed within a few days. We did have an initial hiccup with the materials delivery; it arrived too early, but SS had it picked up and redelivered the following week. All in all, a solid performance from Solar Sesame!

Every now and then, a company does such a great job that I wish that Yelp would allow me to give…read morethem 10 stars. This is the case with Occidental Power Solar Company. My wife and I have struggled for years with staggering Pacific Gas and Electric bills ranging from $300 to $600+ per month. Most of our friends have bills ranging from $100 to $200 per month here in Pacifica. We hired an energy consultant. He spent a day at the house. He wrote a most professional report. To make a long story short, we had to gut our roof and rebuild the entire attic of our home to solve the problem. We were looking at a bill of $40,000 or more. I rejected this. I felt that solar panels were the answer. Over 5 years, four solar companies came out. Sometimes an engineer came along. They did in-depth quotes with a cost of over $40,000 that did not work. This is due to the fog and vegetation blocking the sun. On the fifth try, I brought Occidental Power Solar Company. They did a professional job. They proposed a system costing $27,000 that would do the job. Despite protests from my wife that the system would never work, I hired this company. I got one heck of an education in solar power. We encountered an initial problem that their system required a 150-amp power box. We had to upgrade our 100-amp power box. Pacific Gas and Electric got involved. There was a lot of bureaucracy and delays. A new transformer had to be installed in front of our house. This was an all-day operation with 3 giant trucks involved. Occidental installed the solar panels on our roof and the support equipment. A permit had to be obtained from The Pacific Planning Commission. A final inspection of that permit opened the way for Pacific Gas and Electric to turn on the solar power system. It took them almost a month to do this. There is a saying in English that I love as follows: "The proof is in the pudding." Early this morning, our first electric bill arrived after the solar power system was turned on. It was only $29.89!!! Occidental Power Solar Company had exceeded all my expectations.

Clean Solar - Beautiful solar install on clay roof

Clean Solar

North San Jose

Unreservedly recommend Clean Solar!…read more Had PV Solar installed when the house was built in 2006. Under our existing rate plan (time-of-use, meaning pay high rates 4-9 pm and low rates the rest of the time), and metering agreement (NEMS 2.0), we were selling more electricity (in $ terms) than we were using. However, we will be forced to switch to the new metering agreement (NEMS 3.0) in late 2026, which drastically cuts how much PG&E pays us for electricity we sell to them--we will end up paying money to PG&E. This motivated me to consider installing a whole-house battery storage system to do "rate shifting"--store the excess electricity generated by our PV system in the morning and early afternoon to power the house during the high rate period (4-9 pm). And of course provides energy in the event of a power outage. I also wanted to take advantage of the energy tax credit before it expires at the end of the year. Reading reviews on Yelp, Google, and other sites, I decided to contact Clean Solar along with 3 other companies. Clean Solar was the first to respond and I had a thorough conversation with a Senior Design Analyst, Art Balaoro. He listened and understood my goals, answered my (many) questions and said he would get back to me with options in a few days. Of the other 3 companies, 2 never responded to my inquiry at all! The other one did, but I had to repeatedly reach out to them to make any progress on getting a quote. In contrast, Art did as he said and responded within a week with several options, primarily around which battery vendor to go with (Tesla vs. Franklin, I preferred the latter) and the battery location. Clean Solar scheduled a technician to come out and look at our house: location and configuration of the main panel, possible battery locations, where the existing PV inverter was, etc. Took a lot of photographs and measurements to verify compliance with building codes. In contrast, the other vendor was sluggish to schedule someone to visit, so I ended up sending them photos and measurements from the Clean Solar visit. Because of the peculiarities of my house's main panel, it was going to be more difficult (and expensive) to install the Franklin battery. And although I would have preferred to put the battery inside my garage, building codes would have required a replacement of the entire smoke alarm system throughout the house, also adding significant expense. Art walked me through these issues thoroughly and so I went with the recommended (and cheaper) option, going with the Powerwall and an outside location. In contrast, the other vendor didn't do as thorough an analysis and wasn't aware of these issues until I pointed them out. When I did get a comparable quote from them (exact same system components), it was slightly more expensive than the Clean Solar quote. I started this process in June, and immediately Art said it was going to be a close thing to finish the project before the end of the year--so many people were wanting to install solar or battery projects and claim the tax credit. Art also walked me through the timeline for the whole process and how it would be managed on their end. Based on the interactions I had with him and others, I felt that Clean Solar was the best choice for my project--and my experience bore that out.

We needed to add panels because we purchase an EV and needed more solar to offset PG&E. The impeccable experience started with Art the consultant, he gave 4 scenarios and explained in detail what each means and provided detail report including all the tech details and break even timing. To be honest, it was too much for me, I really just wanted pricing and how long it takes to install haha but was good to know he has such knowledge and I was confident he is looking out for my best interest. Then we had Patrick the PM, arrived for site inspection on time and courteous and explained the whole process. Then come the impressive installation team Luis, Alberto and Kevin. The 3 arrived on time and with smiles, just overall a great vibe from them. Luis walked me through the installation plan and gave a few choices taking into consideration aesthetics of the house and then got to work. 4 hours later, clean line, fine craftsmanship and symmetrical matching placement from last system is in place and ready to tangle with PG&E (attaching some photos) I really really can't recommend any higher to go with Clean Solar on your solar projects. Seamless is what you'll experience with them. Until next time Clean Solar!

Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand.

The project did take longer than initially expected due to delays outside of their control, but the quality of the work never wavered. From the beginning, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely thorough. They explained what needed to be done, why it mattered, and what to expect at each step, which made a potentially stressful process feel very manageable. Raushan, the project manager, was great to work with and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. He was responsive, organized, and always made sure we were informed and comfortable with the plan. Alex, one of the technicians, worked incredibly hard during the rewire and clearly took pride in his work. Bek, another technician, truly went above and beyond - paying close attention to the details and making sure everything was done perfectly, not just "good enough." Beyond the rewire, they handled multiple additional electrical upgrades and fixes around the house, all done cleanly and correctly. What really stood out was trust. Having a crew in your home for a major electrical project isn't easy, but we always felt confident that they had our best interests in mind. No corner-cutting, no unnecessary upsells, just solid, high-quality work. The crew was respectful, showed up when they said they would, and stayed focused until the job was fully complete. I highly recommend Max Electric and would absolutely hire them again!
