Is it possible to give a company 6 stars instead of just 5? Steve at Solar Pro Energy Systems was our advocate and educator all the way through our solar journey. Great service and value for money. Steve was transparent about all the factors we needed to consider (system size, budget, actual benefit, etc.) as well as demystifying how the entire process works, and then making sure we got through that process. We were worried about the city's permitting process, but Steve took care of all that in short order. It turns out the only actual issue was with our electric company, who were properly and expediently notified, but then failed to approve our operation in a timely manner. When Steve investigated this, he found it was a lapse on the electric company's part, and promptly urged them to complete their part of the process, attaching all necessary paperwork as an additional reminder. I gotta say that Steve and his crew did a flawless job adding solar to our home. He was thorough, honest, and fair in his bid. He saw that we have a TPO roof and let us know that he will need to bring in a roofer that specializes in TPO roofs to put a boot over the bolts holding the framing to my roof, so we don't get leaks. The other big solar company we got a bid from said nothing about that. Also, when I calculated the cost per panel, Solar Pro was better priced! When we were looking for solar we did a lot of research and looked at a lot of reviews. Steve at Solar Pro majorly over-delivers! First, some stats: - 36 days from signed contract to PG&E permission to operate. Contract signed: March 4. System installed: March 25. Permission to operate: April 9. Solar Pro had estimated project inspection on April 23 plus 1-2 weeks for PG&E approval. - +26.7% better than expected April production (849.1 kWh actual vs 670 kWh estimated). Now, the long story: Steve's pitch is that Solar Pro is definitely the fastest, he likes to think they are among the best, but will definitely not be the cheapest, and the service we received lived up to this claim. We decided to install solar a few months after moving into a single-family home after living in an SF condo for many years. One of the challenges that arose from this is that we didn't have a full year's worth of energy bills (which some installers prefer to work with when making proposals). From the moment we reached out, Steve was by far the most responsive of anyone we were working collecting quotes from and was happy to take the data we had and feed it into software that would estimate our usage for the months we didn't have data for. I got quotes from Tesla, a few online quotes via EnergySage, and from a few higher-end local firms found via word-of-mouth, Glassdoor, and Yelp (I found Solar Pro on Yelp). The last category was the most expensive but also had the most consistent positive reviews. The credible bids via the online platform came in at around 80-85% the cost of the first category, while Tesla came in at around 66% of the cost. Across the board, the solar business is extremely busy right now, which meant that even the most expensive category had installation times 6-12 weeks out from the time a contract was signed. It was important for us to get this installed ASAP so that we could benefit from solar production before we started needing to use our air conditioner regularly. Tesla is notorious for slow timelines - multiple friends have had strange experiences with them, including one whose panels were installed a few weeks before we even signed with Steve and finally received permission to operate from PG&E in mid-May! The low-price options still end up working the vast majority of the time, it's just a question of how much time and effort the buyer wants to put in to move the process along - in this case, we wanted a relatively hands off experience to very specific standards and felt a higher priced option would more directly address our need. Even the other firms at the highest price tier were only able to commit to similarly long timelines. We picked Solar Pro based on Steve's commitment to making this happen much more quickly, which we were pleased to see he overdelivered on. While going over Steve's proposal, he came over and discussed all the details, including very specific questions about the hardware, and even showed us the mounting hardware that would go on our roof. He also walked through our yard (and crawlspace) to come up with an installation plan that would work for our particular case where the solar panels are on the opposite side of the house from the service panel, and where there is an accessible paved crawlspace that could be used to hide the conduits. Steve paid close attention to aesthetic details such as the location of the conduit and even had his crew paint the metal conduits to match the siding of our house. Steve even went the extra mile to get us some advice from someone in his network on a carpentry project we were considering doing in the same area the solar panels were going in. I really appreciate the attention to detail and high standards for the workmanship - it really reflected well in the final product. Even when there was a minor hiccup due to COVID-related online permit printout not initially being accepted by PG&E, Steve kept us in the loop, went to bat for us, and quickly got the issue resolved. I do have to note that, at least at the moment, Solar Pro uses subcontractors for the actual installation which I suppose someone could go with directly, but the value of Solar Pro was in delivering the project to our very high standards on a super tight timeline, which appears to be quite rare in this industry. I waited a few months before leaving this review just to live with the panels and see if any issues arose. So now I can say with confidence, Steve and Solar Pro are AMAZING. I did a ton of research and talked to different companies prior to choosing them, and they aren't the CHEAPEST but they also aren't the most expensive. But here's the thing: Steve himself is the key here. He is a true master of this stuff, really easy to work with, and he's local which means incredibly responsive to questions and really flexible. We had a 10kwh Enphase system with two Enphase batteries installed. His crew finished the job quickly and professionally and they were wonderful about considering the aesthetics and layout of the wiring, batteries, and other components. And months later, his predictions of our energy production were spot on (we even slightly exceeded them). Knowledgeable, professional, diligent, honest, reliable and fast. I had been wanting to put PV panels on my roof for 10 years. I have spoken to half a dozen companies in that time. I have a clay tile roof so many of these companies didn't want to touch it. The ones who did, described various installations that were dubious at best and damaging to the roof at worst. When I interviewed Steve, it was obvious that he didn't get into solar installation to make a quick buck on the latest fad and he actually cares about the result and his customers' satisfaction. He knows solar energy and the various products, but he also understands construction and roofs. He described the installation method that I had wanted, without my suggesting it, and gave me a few options within the range of possibilities. He analyzed my electricity usage over the past years and designed a system that would meet my needs. I have 400 amp service and 2 electric cars. He got it all to fit in a relatively small space. He knew and told me up front that they would break some tiles (inevitable) and didn't try to hide that fact. He ordered extra tiles and replaced the ones that were broken with better ones than were original. The installation went quickly and on time. As the racks were being installed, Steve called me to tell me that because of my roof's original, non-standard installation, The mounts that we chose did not allow the tiles to sit back down all the way and they didn't look as good as they could. He suggested a change to mounting system and had it installed the next day. My new solar panels are great and the roof looks and works great. Steve has called/texted me a number of times to make sure I am happy, he has even sent guys over to make last minute tweaks and cosmetic improvements even after I sent him the final check.
