When my rapid strep throat…read moretest came back negative, the nurse practitioner immediately framed the situation as "it must be gonorrhea or chlamydia" and started me on STI treatment, presenting it as the only explanation. When I specifically asked if it could be something else, she essentially said no. This was not only inaccurate but also incredibly irresponsible. What should have been said was something like: "Because the rapid test is negative, I'll start you on antibiotics that cover different possibilities, including STIs, while we wait for the lab swab to come back. It may turn out to be another bacterial cause, such as tonsillitis, which won't show up on today's rapid test. Let's cover our bases until we know for sure." That would have been professional, accurate, and safe. Instead, I left the clinic believing I had an STI and accused my partner of giving it to me. This created serious and unnecessary distress and could have had lasting consequences for my relationship. Days later, I got my lab results back -- I do not have an STI. What I actually had was a severe case of tonsillitis caused by another bacterium. All of this happened while I was so ill that I hadn't eaten in two days and fainted in the exam room. For a provider to so confidently and incorrectly declare an STI, without caveats or confirmation, was not just careless -- it was unprofessional and potentially harmful. Clinicians have a responsibility to frame uncertain situations with caution and balance, especially when the social implications are so high. This experience fell far short of that standard.

It's amazing how with constant overflow patients, every time I've felt my illnesses were a prior ity with these doctors. One doctor probably saved my life. Dr. Sawhney, for some reason at the last minute decided I needed an echocardiogram and it turned out I had Afib. Her action prevented a possible stroke. Everyone's great: the receptionists, the PA's. Fantastic service to all of us Santa Cruz sickies. Thank you so much!!!

On a mammogram, with dense breast tissue, it's like trying to find a snowball in a snow storm; it will not detect any cancer. They do such a great job making me feel comfortable because I am nervous; I think it's the IV that's more bothersome along with being on my stomach the middle of the unit I lay on is very hard & uncomfortable to lay on. The staff is very efficient in being on time to get me done ASAP; I really appreciate that. After 12 years, I'm still cancer free. I look forward to my MRI each year. I know that sounds strange, but having breast cancer in 1 out of 2 breast, I need to be sure there is no cancer.

I love Doctors on Duty on Ocean St. They're right down the street from my place, so I've been there…read moreseveral times. I've never had a bad experience there. All the staff treat people with dignity, courtesy, and respect. This last time I was there I came in with fuzzy symptoms. I was given a blood test, urine test, and EKG. They measured my blood pressure, pulse, and oxygenation. I told one of the staff he was very nice and he said "I love my job ". I don't go there under the best of circumstances, but when I leave I always feel better - at least about humanity.

I said no and she became very unpleasant, and made me sign a waiver saying I was declining it, and made me feel like I was going to be in some sort of legal trouble. I think she was worried about getting in trouble herself for not being able to do her job properly. All I really wanted was the ultrasound anyway, which I had afterward and which was enough to address my concerns.

Again very satisfied. Called to follow up and answered my questions. Can't remember anesthesia Dr name, she was very professional and understanding. Had Amanda as surgical nurse and yes another compliment. Josh had me as post op care and saw me out the door with follow up directions. Dr Mensch did my wrist fusion which is not a simple operation without any complications. Whew, glad it is over and it will alleviate my constant pain from arthritis. Now home to recover. Thanks to a great team. Saw a few negative reviews, but 5 stars for me.
