I've eaten here 3-4 times driving through. It's always the same. Salad bar is scary but what you'd expect in Sonora Texas. Stay away from the fish. They don't know fish in Sonora. The fillet was cooked just right, but likely came out of a little plastic bag wrapped in bacon. The chicken fried steak is chicken fried steak; decent but nothing to go out of your way for. My wife and I ate here twice in one week in late October on our way back and forth from Marfa. We stopped there first because we were starving and there were no other nearby choices. We came back a few days later on the way home because of our first experience. We will stop there again on any trip to the Big Bend area. read more

Yes! Options along I10 at this stretch are few and far between but don't overlook this dive "gem" ! It's worth pulling off the highway for! Friendly service. Clean restrooms. Onion rings are good, the grilled trout was way over cooked, almost like jerky, cat fish is breaded with flour/cornmeal mix and a bit too much flour. We made the mistake of not trying the chicken fried steak so highly recommended. Little lady that waited on us was as sweet as can be but never offered refills or asked how food was. I will only try again to see I'd the chiken fry is all that as other reviews hve said. Passing through Sonora for the night we found this gem. We had the rib-eye special and it was very affordable. The steak was grilled to perfection. The salad & soup bar had a lot of variety. We were headed home after kayaking on the Devil's River and only having eaten dehydrated food for three days. We were easy to please. I had the chicken fried steak and the salad bar. The steak was good but a little on the tough side and the seasoning was a subtle. Check your veggies before getting anything off the salad bar; the cucumbers were moldy. read more

If you are traveling through Sonora and have had enough Mexican food for a bit and don't want fast food, this is where you go. The steaks are excellent, the trout is delicious, the vegetables are fresh and perfectly cooked and lovely. No, there is not a great wine list and the napkins are paper....but the service is excellent. We always stop here. read more

Right off the interstate next to a Days Inn in a cute little town i hope to explore one day. Full of locals and thats always a good sign. Im having the gourmet burger. Two kinds of cheese and ham on a burger. The side of veggies is what earned the 4 stars. Ordered em grilled and it was a mixture of carrots, squash, and some others. This appears to be a family- run restaurant with Mom as the hostess and two daughters serving. First off let me say that the food was great. I had the 6 - piece catfish dinner and my wife had the small chicken - fried steak. The pieces of catfish were pretty big and I couldn't finish it. The chicken fried steak was also ample size for the price. I deducted one star for the 2.99 salad bar addition that had lettuce, three or four veggies, and a couple of dressings. I deducted one more star for the fact that it was about 50 degrees in their dining room. It was uncomfortably cold. Improve upon those two and you'll get a much better rating next time. read more

Traveling on the I-10 in this part of West Texas is not the place where you should expect "Fine Dining", so forget about four or five stars. I recommend the Sutton House if your hungry and want something other than fast food. The only thing that has ever disapointed me was the bisquits & gravy. It might have felt it took them a while to get the meal out (didn't time it but not quicker than 10, nor longer than 25 minutes) but that also means things aren't precooked before hand. I had the Sutton hamburger, can't remember the actual name but it was quite good. The woman liked the sweet potato french fries and some other "hamburger" she ordered. Staff was friendly too. We were going to stop at it again on our way back but didn't know what time they closed, they seemed to be still open at 8PM on a weekday. read more

Stop in on Saturday for lunch. The chicken fried steak is not all that great. Very thin and saggy. French fries was under cooked. A Small is 10.99 and if you want a salad that is an extra 3.25. Ice tea 2.49. Without the salad total was 14.59. Still walked out hungry. And the price of the steaks you are better off going to Roadhouse. I will not be stopping here again. read more

Pretty good joint. Ribeye was big and seasoned well. My medium rare order was almost over done. I chalk that up to the others in my group ordering well done and I may have got caught up in that. But all and all was a pretty good steak. Service was good. Will be worth a trip back. read more
