More steak first times.
Joshua H.

Wife said this place was really good as she had been here many times before but several years passed since. 1 hour from home for us and never been here till today passing by to go home from Fredericksburg. Steak is never off the table for me when seeking a lunch stop so I agreed to stop here without hesitation. Glad we did. Nothing amazing or fancy. An old school steakhouse with a lunch buffet option or menu ordering. I was not feeling the fried catfish or chicken fry steal myself so went menu. Wife did the same. The server seemed a bit rushed in taking our orders but hey, it happens, busy place, I get it. I got the sirloin steak tips and grilled veggies as my side pick. Wife did the grilled chicken with bacon added but the bacon never came out, she never got charged for it so no loss I guess. My steak bites were really good, tender, medium, lean. Veggies were heavily soaked in olive oil for sur ebut beyond that good. $23 seemed a bit pricy for the meal I got with 1 side. $20 woulda been about right. Did have a good pound of cooked steak though so no complaint there. Wife said her sandwich was OK but not great. Homemade roll was nice but bacon and avocado with the chicken and swiss cheese woulda made it better she said. I'd think so too. Not the best steakhouse I have been to in the area but it is one I'd come back to again lets say.

Sirloin steak

I ordered the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. The steak was delicious. My fiancé ordered the sirloin steak and it was also delicious. Service was excellent. It has a home style look.

This is the perfect restaurant for those who enjoy a traditional meal. You can stop by after visiting Caverns of Sonora. My food was fresh, my fries were crispy, and my steak was cooked just the way I like it! There's a gas station next door and easy access back to the highway!

The Onion Rings. Small order. really good.

So its a little bit campy, small town restaurant. Prices are just a little high, but I will give them a pass on that, as cost basis so far away from metro areas is likely a little high. Service was quick and cordial. We ordered a small order of onion rings as an appetizer. 7 rings. Plenty for two. And they live up to the hype. Fresh, hand battered with a good dipping sauce. We both ordered 8 oz Filet Mignon. Mine was medium well. Meat was a little tough, and the surface texture leads me to believe it is cooked on a flat top grill, not open flame. Not bad, but not amazing. It gets the job done. All in all, if you're on the road and need a steak dinner, decent food and good service.

Tender, flavorful, Chicken fried chicken with mashed potato

Sutton County Steak house was a mixed bag of fun...or not! We intentionally showed up around 1:00-1:30 PM because we had driven by the day before around lunchtime and the place was packed. When we walked in it looked like a tornado had hit the inside of the place. All the tables were un-bused and the floor was covered in trash and food. We were sat at one of the only reasonably clean tables, in the back corner, which sooted our needs. Our waitress was frantic complaining about the mess and I assume the lack of help. She provided us with menus and after awhile of fretting, she returned to take our order. The special was out of the question because it was the buffet that was ravaged and destroyed by the lunch crowd, only a few crumbs remained. I opted for the Chicken Fried Chicken. I was surprised at the fact it came with only one side...I opted for mashed potatoes and had no option for veggies to round out the meal, this seemed unique in this part of the country. The food came out in a bit of time, not quick but in a reasonable time all the same. The chicken was hot, tender, and flavorful, one of the better that I have had recently despite its smaller size. The potatoes were just OK, as was the gravy. By this time the waitress had calmed down and service improved a bit but it still wasn't impressive. We wrapped up and moved along feeling as though we were outsiders amongst a tight-knit group of locals, tolerated but not overly welcome.

Now THAT'S how to order a rare steak! Good job, Christie!

Waitresses like to flirt with everyone, food is always cold, you should have to pay that much for terrible service

Though small and quiet, this little grill puts out really good food. My daughter kept it simple with a dry cheeseburger. It comes with a side of fries that are cooked fresh, but maybe needed some time to breathe or dash a little bit of salt. The burger was cooked really well though. Noah enjoyed his carne asada tacos. Liz ordered the Potosino nachos, which were like a loaded nachos. Loaded means it came with beans, grill d tomato and jalapeno, thin slices of skirt steak, and cheese. It looked good, and I grabbed a few at the begining. I really enjoyed my Potosino plate. It was the same thing slices of skirt steak, grilled onion, jalapeno, and tomato that was on the nachos, but my plate came with Spanish and refried beans. (Same as Noah's kid taco plate). So, why the 3? It's a small place, and the dining area can be overwhelmed by a rush. Though the folks that knew were just getting food to go. There's about 7 tables/booths for 4 each, and it got crowded right after we sat down and ordered. Hey, if I can't get my coffee refilled without asking, well... Overall, I did enjoy the food. The place was clean and comfortable. It was the lack of speedy service was on no way a deal killer, but when you're on the EP to SA road trip time management can matter. Check it out if you're stopping in Ozona.

We came on a Friday and it was lively - people ready to have a good time and a great meal. I had the KC steak for one, which turned out to be a generous portion of NY Strip; excellently prepared to a medium rare. My wife had the steak salad. Again a generous portion of steak served atop a wonderful array of fresh greens and vegetables. We finished with the Red Velvet cake which tasted homemade. We will be back.

They had a variety of sized, small, med and large. I went with med! A good CFS, has steak all the way to the end of the crust #1. Crispy fried #2, juicy #3 and a bit of spice in every bite! They met all the marks exceptfor the bite of spice!!!! The CFS was served hot off the skillet. The other items were hot as well. It was large, I can't imagine what the large was like. The vegetables were not a hit. The green beans were unseasoned, and tasted like a can variety, although they had ham in them. One thing I have learned about restaurants is that they cater to their crowd, it looked like many locals passing through. Perhaps less spice was the flavor! Overall food was good and plentiful. The west texas ambiance was delightful. Certianly worth a stop if you are passing through Ozona, TX. I recommend putting a few spices in pocket during you dine !

First of all, let me just say that Dawn, the owner, and her son, Curtis (the chef) have a totally charming place inside and I had one of the best burgers EVER! I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered the child's size hamburger and fries, and it was just right! They even added all the fixin's for me! Plus! You know when you have a hankerin' for a cold Dr. Pepper on ice? Well, this one was a PERFECT mix of the syrup and fizz! My husband had the patty melt on rye (comes with mozzarella instead of Swiss) and he said it was A+, too. Btw, Dawn named the restaurant JoJo's because of her pet monkey of the same name, and his picture is everywhere. Plus I had the joy of talking to 6 year old Emily about mermaids. If I ever pass through El Dorado again, I will definitely stop here again. Home cooking at it's yummiest!
