Another review sitting unfinished on my computer for awhile. Seriously, that's becoming a problem!…read moreAnyway, onto the review. Nice selection of antiques and vintage wares, particularly depression glass, costume jewelry and old coins. Overall, this is a very cute little antiques shop located in what is known as "Victorian West Branch," smack dab in the middle of town. I've visited West Branch several times before, but never noticed this store a recent side trip to West Branch, probably because I usually stay at a friend's cabin on the water and rarely venture downtown, except for supplies. Well, during a recent trip up north, I managed to wander around town for a bit and finally got a chance to check out Downtown Antiques and Collectibles. I liked what they had and all, but came away with the sense that their prices were a little out of whack, especially for the local market. For instance, they had some really nice depression glass pieces, but the prices were somewhat inflated. Okay, I'll be honest- they were really inflated, probably 30% at least. I know that I can buy (and have bought on a regular basis) pieces of pink, green, blue depression glass of nearly identical quality and design for much less than the price point at which they were selling their glassware. Actually, I was a little offended at the price tag of some pieces. I think the prices were not only a bit ambitious and reaching on the store's part, but it just came off as a tad greedy and made me feel like the owners hadn't put much thought into what they had or what they were selling. It made me less interested in checking out what else they had because the experience kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. It was off-putting. Honestly, some of the glassware pieces that I liked, but knew were incredibly overpriced, had been sitting at that bloated price point for awhile and I could prove it. After checking out the pics of the store on this Yelp listing that were posted before I even visited, I could tell many of the depression glass items were sitting in the exact same position as I had seen them in person, but those pics under the page were from much earlier than my trip here. There was a very lovely depression glass pitcher that I was interested in, but thought the price was too high. I couldn't find anyone working to ask about the price, so I put it back. Later on, I looked at the business page and saw pics of the same item from a couple of years earlier, sitting where I had picked it up, unsold. If it hadn't sold by that point, that shows that the price doesn't reflect the market. It hadn't moved at all? Nothing really had? That's quite odd and it's also telling. It tells me something- that the items are priced too high, just as I had initially surmised. If the owners just lowered the prices a bit, I bet it would do wonders and some of that stuff would sell in a heartbeat because they did have some nice antiques and vintage collectibles, especially the glassware, coins and jewels. Seriously, the prices definitely need some adjusting. Elsewhere, the selection was nice and fairly well-ordered, but there was a distinct lack of customer service. I liked what they had, but couldn't find anyone that seemed to be working. That's a pity. As I walked around, looking at stuff, other shoppers milled about, with no one coming out to help or answer questions. One guy had a question, but couldn't find anyone to ask, so he took off. For an antiques shop, that was a little odd because usually the owners are chatty types and always lurking around corners, but not here. Despite that, I would probably stop in here again just to check out if things were different or whatnot if in the area.

No changes there either. Just based on the photos taken proves not much interest is present by both the customer on purchases, nor it's store owners pricing and presentation.
