Made two different trips here. First time we ran out of time and had to turn back about half way. The second time we made it all the way through. The park is cool. The trail is a bit messy, and has a few spots that could use a little maintenance. The few spots that need help are washed away parts of the path and some overgrowth. Outside of that its a cool hike. Plus there are like 3 trails here. So for us we took the lower trail out and one of the upper trails back. I had a lot of fun, there is a ton of character and its a great hike for some decent distance right in our back yard. I would definitely do it again and if not this year maybe next.

Very neat place ! My 5 children ages 20 months - 9 years old had a blast ! They wore their boots and played in the creek ! The only down side is parking area seems sketchy, trash found throughout the trail and graffiti , lots of people were smoking on the trail and a dog who wasn't on a leash ran and splashed my children and I .... other than that it's a great place to get some energy out and there are benches in the beginning it you need a rest !

Swan Creek County Park was a park we kind of came across by accident. Steve picked up a free Tacoma newspaper a few days ago and he read an article about it...articles that we often overlook or ignore. The park is very unique. It was not always a park. In the 1940's during World War II the majority of acreage for what is now a park was a subdivision. The neighborhood was intended to be low end housing, mainly for people that worked the docks in downtown Tacoma. By the mid 1950's however the state deemed the homes poorly constructed and unfit so all of the houses were removed. Since then the acreage became a park and has somewhat fallen into disrepair and had a reputation for illicit activity. The city is trying to give it a make over and reshape it's reputation. We went in through the main entrance to the park where there is a huge and beautiful community garden. The old black top roads are still in here and we did a loop on extension and then back towards where the neighborhood once was. The streets are all still there and makes for very fine walking paths. There are dirt hiking paths that spring off from the main one everywhere and handy maps poised on posts let you know where you are. Walking around the neighborhood which has gone feral is a little eerie. It looks like you are walking around in a utopian/dystopian future where mankind has become an artifact. There are old eroded curbs on the grid pattern streets, fire hydrants and old telephone poles tangled up in the forest. The old black top has scorch marks in spots where people sat down and made an unwarranted camp fire only adding more to the eeriness. I have been to similar places, ghost towns but this seems so much more dramatic with modern features present that once resembled a neighborhood to be consumed by forest. I am not sure if there are other parks like this around here or not but I felt it was a unique experience as far as parks go and will be back to give the dogs a good run here!

What an interesting park! There is a paved section that runs paralell to the creek and trails leading down to the creek. I had no idea what the elevation change was all the way down to the creek. We had fun traversing the trails and throwing rocks into the water once we got to the bottom. Didn't see too many people, and we had a great time. Not sure if I'd make this a regular spot, but definitely worth checking out at least once.

This park is a great little hike. I have not hiked in a long time and this was a great start. it's only a few miles from me. it does have some uphill. The only thing was that the beginning of the trail was a little flooded but after all it is a hike.

The moment you step in, you're surrounded by towering, hundred-year-old trees from all over the world that give the park a magical, shaded atmosphere. It's not just a park, it's also an arboretum, so tree lovers will appreciate the variety and history here. At the heart of it all is the Seymour Conservatory, a Victorian-style glasshouse that looks like it belongs in a storybook. Inside, you'll find a lush collection of tropical plants, seasonal floral displays, and even quirky additions like cacti and Golden Dart Frogs (fun fact: in the wild, they're considered the most poisonous frogs on Earth, but here they're safe since their diet is different). Beyond the conservatory, the park has a beautiful lily pond, fountains, open lawns perfect for picnics, and plenty of walking paths. It's also very family-friendly with playgrounds and lots of space to run around. Wright Park has that perfect mix of history, nature, and community. Whether you're here to stroll among the century-old trees, relax by the pond, or pop into the conservatory, it's easily one of Tacoma's most picturesque hidden gems. Best part? Admission is free, with a donation box available if you'd like to support it.

There are a multitude of trees providing shade and many have signs showing when they were first planted, which provides some interesting history of this area. It's within walking distance of a few shops, including a pet store, bicycle store, restaurants, and more. I suppose at night it can be seedy, but during the day it's a lovely park to walk around.

The parking lot shares space with a police substation so it feels really safe and everything seems really clean and nicely upkept. The park appears much larger on the map than I have checked out and appears to include a skate park as well. There are tables available to enjoy a picnic, or to simply sit while you watch children enjoy the playground. I did find the spray area to be a little underwhelming, but the playground equipment seemed newer and unique. The pool is a very good reason to come to this location. They are currently doing limited sessions due to lifeguard shortage, but its only 7$ for 2 hours. Best of all the wave pool is heated and feels amazing on a hot day. There are some water squirting things and one of those large buckets that dump water on everyone's heads. Lifejackets are available for use. On the day I visited there was plenty of room for everyone to occupy a table or lounger. It appears that the grassy hill next to the wave pool is a good location to set up and bring your own chairs, blankets, etc. There's a 1 ft wading pool that I mistook for a hot tub and was a little disappointed by, but likely great for smaller children. I also really liked that they have children complete swim tests and give them a bracelet to tell others what areas of the pool they are allowed to be in. My 7 yr old nephew insisted he could swim, but it was nice to have someone official reinforce that he needed to stay with adults or before a certain point.

There is also a basketball court, kids park, baseball field and I think a co-op. The grass is well maintained and the trees and landscape is nice to look at.
