Artizen Kombucha - Raspberry Hibiscus 350ml Kombucha bottle

TL;DR/The Short Version: Artizen Kombucha is a small brewery…read morein Perth, ON that makes kombucha. I found their kombucha a bit too vinegary and not carbonated enough for my tastes. The Long Version: I love kombucha and when I'm away from home I like to check out locally available kombucha. The funny thing is Artizen Kombucha is available in Ottawa where I live, but I didn't try it until I was in Perth, where their brewery is located. I was actually at the Metro grocery store in Perth and I saw they had Artizen Kombucha on sale for $3.99 (it's usually $4.99) so I thought what a perfect time to try it since I'm in the town where they were founded and it's on sale, haha. I got the Pineapple Coconut flavour. The best before date was May 2025, so I assumed it was a younger kombucha since it was January 2025 when I bought it. I don't like kombucha that tastes and smells too vinegary, so I was told that older kombuchas that have been fermented longer have a more potent vinegar taste, so I thought I was safe with this purchase, but unfortunately it had a strong vinegar taste and I barely tasted any pineapple or coconut at all. Also it wasn't too carbonated, but this would be consistent with a younger kombucha. The bottle was also a twist top and it was really easy to open (and then close again). I really hope it wasn't tampered with at the store. I would feel more comfortable if it had more tamper-proof packaging, like companies that have a cap that has a little depression at the centre that pops up when it's been open. Or the aluminium caps that separate into 2 pieces where one of the pieces stays around the neck of the bottle. Anyway, if they change their packaging I might give them another try. Review #47 (2025)

I've tried the majority of Artizen Kombucha's regular flavours and I like their Raspberry Hibiscus…read moreone the best so far. The 350ml stubby bottle can be purchased at various farmer's markets in Ottawa for $5. I bought mine at their booth at the Navan Farmer's Market, but I know that they are at the Carp Farmer's Market, too. I like that there's only 6g of sugar per 250ml, so that the kombucha is a little sweet, but not overly. The vibrant colour of the Raspberry Hibiscus booch is pretty to look at and the booch is a nice non-alcoholic sparkling beverage to enjoy any time of day or night. Artizen sells their kombucha in refillable 1L bottles as an option as well if that's of interest to you!

TL;DR/The Short Version: Cool health food store in Perth,…read moreON. Lots of local, organic, and ethically sourced products. The Long Version: I love health food stores, so I had to check out Foodsmiths when we were in Perth. It's similar to Dandelion Foods in Almonte, and Natural Food Pantry or Kardish in Ottawa. Foodsmiths does seem to have more local items though and they have a formidable bakery section that the other stores I mentioned lack. They had tarts from Mrs. Garrett's Bake Shop (in Inverary, Ontario). As an aside, when I hear Mrs. Garrett, I will forever think of Charlotte Rae's character in "The Facts of Life." Lol. This clearly exposes me of being of a certain vintage ;) The regular prices of items that are easily found at other stores (e.g. Carbonaut, Made Good, Organic Meadow, etc.) are a tad higher than at the stores in Ottawa, but they have clearance sections and discounted items throughout the store. We were there at the end of January (2025) and I noticed a small Lunar New Year display with red lanterns, red parasols and a blue dragon. I was surprised to see that they sell sandals (!) They're all Birkenstock style sandals though, lol, the brands I saw were Finn Comfort, Haflinger, and Mephisto. I enjoyed poking around the store. Lots of free parking in their private parking lot. Foodsmiths is an unexpected gem of a grocery store, with a solid selection of personal health care…read moreproducts too, and some devices in Perth... I doubt that most other towns the size of Perth have such a store. This is one of my fields of expertise as an urban geographer, so I am planning to pursue this hypothesis further...
