I was surprised to find it in the old Whisk'd location -- RIP to Whisk'd; I loved that restaurant. Street parking only but the street is quiet and it's easy to pop in and out. Inside there's a huge array of confections: classic chocolates like turtles, chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, etc., as well as fresh baked cookies and a somewhat startling amount of freeze dried candies. I know that's sort of having a moment right now, but WOW there was a lot of freeze dried stuff to choose from. I don't dislike it but I prefer chocolatey treats so I skirted around the big display. I came about 1.5 hours before closing and will admit the selection (other than freeze dried) was a little sparse. I'm glad they're not letting products go to waste, but in the future, definitely come early if you want to ensure you get everything. More than one customer asked/called in for something only to be turned away while I was shopping around. Of course, the holidays might also have something to do with very high demand. Anyway, I wound up leaving with two cookies (only about four varieties were available when I arrived -- I took a chocolate chip and a brown butter cookie), three chocolate covered pretzels, and one pecan turtle. The service was limited to being rung up at the cash register, but the employee was nice in our limited interaction. My husband and I enjoyed all the treats over the following days! The chocolate was smooth and rich on pretzels and pecans, the caramel chewy and satisfying. The pecans and pretzels were both crispy and fresh -- no problems with staleness here. The cookies were good, too, though perhaps a tiny touch oily. I liked the brown butter better but both were enjoyable! They're the perfect size to share. I'd definitely return here for sweets!

It was later in the afternoon (like 2ish) so the restaurant was fairly quiet when I entered. It's located on a corner as you enter Hartselle's downtown area. I always find parking to be challenging around Main Street, so I parked in a large lot about two blocks down and just walked over to not have to battle with traffic and parallel parking. The inside is beautiful and has a first and second floor. The vibe is pretty much perfect; it reminds me a little of a bistro, with sort of a classical aura but without tackiness or over-grandiosity. The music selection matched the ambiance perfectly. There are lovely large windows and cozy as well as more traditional seating options. I walked my way back to the counter, passing the beautiful baked goods, where I was asked if I'd like a lunch menu or coffee and a pastry. When I indicated I wanted to eat lunch, I was encouraged to sit and relax and let them grab me a menu and a drink. The service was lovely all around; I was checked on plenty and they seemed genuinely concerned about whether or not I enjoyed myself (I did)! They were also very helpful and friendly when I placed a to go order for some pastries for later. Sweet and charming conversationalists! The sweet tea I had to drink was legit some of the best tea I've had in a long time. I know they offer Piper and Leaf tea and I wonder if it was their take on Front Porch Special. I love that tea. At any rate, it was perfectly sweet and flavorful. I ordered the pimento cheese BLT. They have upgraded side options for an extra charge but I was content with the kettle chips. The sandwich was made on a nice soft but chewy bread -- sourdough? -- and the smoked Gouda pimento cheese had just enough smoke. The bacon was absolutely delicious, crispy and so flavorful. The lettuce was more of a mix and I enjoyed that as opposed to just romaine. Truly my only criticism of lunch is I wish that the bread would've been toasted, or that I'd been offered the opportunity to have it toasted. I'd wished for a little warmth on my sandwich. I got a kitchen sink type of cookie and a white chocolate raspberry scone to go for a treat later. These didn't knock my socks off quite as much as lunch did, but both were enjoyable, the cookie especially. Lots of goodies inside and a good balance of chewy and crispy. I could've gone for a little more both raspberry and white chocolate, but my husband really liked it -- he said it tasted like a fancy poptart lol. Overall, I really really enjoyed my visit here. We have friends in Hartselle and I will happily recommend and return when able!

We have been meeting there on a regular basis for over a year - loved the food, the coffee, the ambience and the table by the window. Service was great. We met there today and found that they have re-branded. No more breakfast- just some pastries. The pumpkin spice latte had just a hint of nutmeg. The muffin was just like a Costco muffin. The window table was replaced with merchandise. The server was confused about the order. Nothing was wrong, per se, but it lacks the charm and deliciousness that it had. I can't say I won't be back, but I can say that it isn't our special spot anymore.

This is a small little bakery; technically they have daily lunch specials but there's very limited seating so it's more of a grab-and-go type of spot. They also have premade dishes in tall coolers if you want to take and reheat something as an appetizer or an entree. Great for on the go engagements or as a quick fix for a family that needs feeding. There's also a selection of packaged breads made in-house and a dessert case. The service was extremely nice! I had a lovely chat with one of the employees. The only major complaint I have was that the store smelled really weird and unpleasant when I visited. I have NO idea what it was from -- I couldn't place the smell. Maybe a dish I don't like? Maybe the yeast for the bread? Not sure. It looked clean and had a good health code score, but the smell was rough. At any rate, I grabbed a slice of strawberry pretzel salad for right then, as well as a slice of Elvis cake (iirc) and a snickerdoodle. The strawberry pretzel salad had a pretty strawberry jelly top and was packed with lots of cream cheese filling! It was good, though I do wish there had been a thicker pretzel crust; sometimes I felt like I was mostly eating pretzel crumbs instead of an actual bottom of a layered dessert. Still, definitely yummy! Hubs and I enjoyed the Elvis cake later. It was super moist and sort of reminded me of a hummingbird cake. My snickerdoodle was special (peanut butter snickerdoodle? Coffee snickerdoodle?). It was a unique combo of flavors that you don't typically see but sadly I'm far enough removed now that I've forgotten exactly what. Regardless, it was good! Stop by and treat yourself sometime!

Along for the ride in my favorite sister's quest for the best locally made sourdough bread, we visited Suzanne's last month. It's small, and I think it may have had 2 little bistro style tables inside, but it may have had 3. There are several refrigerators on the floor with grab and go items such as a ground beef-based "John Wayne casserole," pimento cheese, various casseroles, maybe a 3-bean salad, chick salad, broccoli salad, and more. A stocked confection counter is where you order and pay. They had really cute Halloween cake "pops" for sale and their "sour dough" bread was on a small display on the right as you enter. They offer hot lunch specials daily Tuesday-Friday, 11-2 and a soup of the day at 6.49, ranging from said John Wayne casserole to chicken poulet and stuffing. We missed the lunch window and didn't purchase any of the grab and goes. The staff here are patient and friendly! Really nice! Sister and I each got a loaf or 2 of the sourdough, sister tried one of their confectionery items and said it was good. I also got two of their giant chocolate chip cookies for the hubs. The unanimous verdict on their sourdough bread is it is a good bread, especially for toasting; however, sourdough it is not. The bite I had was sweet and fluffy. Hubs and sister agreed it was delicious bread, just not sourdough. So, it's back to Publix for sourdough. Don't plan to eat in if you go to Suzannes, I told sister, "I guess most people get their lunch to go and eat it in the car, parked here, or back at work." Thanks, Suzzane's! I'm happy to have visited your shop and to see all you offer!

My sandwich was a grilled chicken breast with Brie, shallot, apple slices, and fig jam. The gluten free bread was toasted and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My sandwich was very good. When I order it again, I will skip the fig jam. The sweet taste is ok but not my preference. The fig jam made my bread mushy on the side the jam was applied. 5/5 If you are gluten intolerant, Mason Dixon is your go to for freshly baked breads, cupcakes, muffins and more. I was in Homewood going to my fav Greek restaurant years ago and found their Birmingham location. I will definitely get to Mason Dixon soon to try the grilled chicken without fig jam. I know it will be great! It's good y'all. 5/5

So, the (seasonal) peach iced tea was good--and actually tasted like fresh peaches. I also got the famous chicken/rice bowl and added an avocado. Pros: They were GENEROUS with the avocado--I got a whole one I ordered online and it was ready to go at exactly the right time They have ample seating (inside and out) The bowl was very, very large The picked red onions were delightful Cons: My grilled chicken breast was kind of gnarly--you know when you bite into meat and it just tastes of gristle? Think that So. Much. Rice. There wasn't a lot of dressing to spread around due to it being so thick (it was tasty though!) The "soft boiled egg" was very, very hard and overcooked I am fine with gluten so this likely won't be a regular stop for me, but if you're gluten sensitive/free and/or don't mind splurging for an expensive meal...this is your spot.
