We ordered our wedding cake over a month ago, sometime in March. We were told the cake could be picked up the day before the wedding after 10:00 Am. When we called the day before our big day, to pick up the cake that afternoon, we were told it had not yet been made but was soon to be started and we could get it tomorrow, the day of our wedding ! What a disappointment when we sliced into it, only to discover an excessive amount of buttercream frosting inside the cake. Disclaimer: this is a cookie only review! I understand this place is mostly for cake orders. I came by just wanting a sweet treat for dessert for me and my husband later in the evening. The selection isn't super huge here but they do have a couple of sweet treats that aren't speciality order cakes. The first thing I noticed was a container with a large variety of cookies, so I ordered three of them to go. The price was right -- where else can you get a cookie for $1? There were some larger, "fancier" cookies that went for more, maybe $1.75 or $2, that had Reese's cups baked into the top of them. I got myself a peanut butter, husband a chocolate chip, and an additional cookie to share. I wanna say it was called rocky road. It was a chocolate cookie with nuts in it. Service was very busy -- I was surprised at how many folks were hard at work in there! Lady who rang me up was nice and I was in and out quickly, so no complaints there. The cookies themselves were very meh, sadly. The rocky road had an extremely chewy, gritty texture -- in a way that resembled raw cookie dough instead of a chewy cookie. We didn't finish it. The chocolate chip was the best of the three, and it was about average. The peanut butter had good flavor but was very dry and crumbly. I will say my mom has had cakes baked by them in the past at a friend's birthday party, and she remarked it was excellent, so in the future I'll probably stick to cakes here! read more

We reached out to Batter Up for a birthday cake and smash cake, and we were incredibly pleased. The communication process was excellent and easy - we simply texted photos of what ideas/inspirations we had and Batter Up did the rest! They offered several cake flavor options and we went with chocolate chip for the main cake and chocolate for the smash cake. We got a text reminder the day before pickup, and pickup was fast and easy. The bakery's atmosphere was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. Everything was ready on time, we visually confirmed that the cakes were what we wanted, and they walked the cakes out to our car for us. Our son absolutely loved his smash cake. I've never seen a baby dig so far into a cake before, so we know he enjoyed it! The main birthday cake was also a hit. Both were a great balance of sweet and decadent. The pricing was also excellent. I ordered a Birthday cake and cookies for my son's Birthday. I sent them my Pinterest pictures of what I was looking for. Customer Service was excellent all of the way through, from ordering to pickup. They called to make sure they had the order right the week before. We ordered the Oreo cake and it was delicious! Somehow, they got it to be moist the whole way through. It was also not loaded with sugar flavor. This is the kind of cake you savor every bite with, not shovel in. The sugar cookies turned out great! Although, I was not fond of the flavor of the frosting, the kids loved it! Again, not drowned in sugar, which I appreciated. The designs turned out great! Just what I asked for! I should have communicated to put the "Kai 8" in fondant or something cleaner, but it was still good! Ordered a cake for my Uncle's 80th birthday. When I picked the cake up I asked if I needed to keep it in the frig and they said just keep in a cool room. It sat on my counter until I drove 15 minutes to his house. Soooo... I had an interesting experience with Batter Up. I had seen Batter Up for some time before it had even opened and wanted to give them a try when they did. They finally open and I finally get around to trying them. I go in on a Monday and no one was there except the owner and her husband. The air conditioner went out so she was technically closed for the day but people had orders to pick up. I went in and asked for a cupcake but they did not have them because the air conditioner went out on Friday so she was not able to bake anything. I saw a piece of Red Velvet cake that had been sitting in the refrigerator case so I asked for that. She said ok and only charged me like $1.64 for the inconvenience of not having a cupcake and I appreciated it. I wait a few days (Wednesday now I think) and go back to give it a fair try. This time they were up and running so I was happy to see what they had. I go in and the staff was friendly and greeted me. I asked for a cupcake and she told me the ones they had available and I choose the Strawberry Cupcake. The first cupcake that the owner frosted she knocked over, so she frosted me another one to have a "pretty" one. I also asked for a cookie sandwich. I will say the staff was very nice and the owner was very accommodating and nice as well, however the products themselves were not that great. The Red Velvet cake I tried on the Monday was dry and just lacked in flavor. The icing was I think buttercream. I could be wrong but it didn't remind me of cream cheese. I figured ok she gave me the cake cold because it was in the refrigerator case so I'll let it thaw. I let it thaw and it was still dry and flavorless. The Strawberry Cupcake I tried tasted like nothing special. It reminded me of store bought cupcakes. I honestly think the batter was store bought strawberry cake mix with a few strawberries thrown in. You could see tiny pink specks that you see in colored store bought cupcakes. The icing also tasted store bought. This cupcake was also dry as well. The cookie sandwich was decent and the best out of the three things I tasted from here. The icing in the middle tasted like the same icing on the strawberry cupcake. The cookies didn't taste bad. Were they the best cookies ever.. NO.. but they weren't horrible. Another thing that was different from any other bakery I have seen before was that this bakery was open. There was no wall to cover the behind the scenes baking and mess. You walk in the front door and the bakery is literally right in your face. I guess the major good thing about this is you can see what the employees are doing with your baked goods. You know there is no funny business going on. Overall, Batter Up Bakery has an extremely nice owner however the products from the bakery aren't the best. The cakes are dry and some of the other items in which I tasted (cookie sandwich) were just average. I wouldn't go back just because there are other bakeries around that taste better, and there are tons of other cake decorators that do a better job with decorating and the taste of their cakes. read more

However, when you get closer it's easy to tell it's a bakery. When you walk in on the right side is their display. They have cookies, mini pies, muffins and much more. Then they have a decorating area and a fridge that all the decorated cakes are put in. I went in with a friend and we were immediately helped by a young lady. She was really nice and full of energy. She made some recommendations, however my friend and I decided to go with cookies. I chose a cream filled chocolate cookie and she got a macadamia cookie. When I started to bite into it, I know this wasn't going to be good. The cookie was very firm and just broke apart. It was almost as if it tasted stale. After the first bite, I tucked it into my purse not wanting to complain in front of a friend. However, I noticed her not eating hers as well. She actually threw it away after the first bite. I am really not sure what happened. The cookies were so hard I doubt they were baked that day or even the day before and the frosting in between mine had a chemical taste to it. Overall, super disappointing experience. I probably won't return or recommend it. I can't imagine what the cakes taste like if the cookies were that bad!!! read more

My husband and I visited this store not too long ago. He purchased what was left. The place was messy, as if they were so busy. Not very organized! I wish they had received more guidance upon starting their business. Looks worse each time we visit. A few weeks ago was the very last time ever! If they look busy, it's just the location on University. Trust me! They're too small and not capable of handling the influx, and their cupcakes are just okay. Why start a business if you cannot keep up? Seems as if they're holding out on the full flavor of the frostings too, to save money I guess. We stopped by today to check out their selection and to get a few tasty treats, I was rather disappointed walking in, because there wasn't really much in their display cases. The staff was rather friendly, I was just expecting a bakery, you know? I was wanting to see all kinds of pastries in the display cases, quite a few cupcakes, a few cakes and maybe some more cookies. Maybe spending close to $40 or so. The only cupcakes they had were a few chocolate, a few strawberry and a few vanilla....honestly, I could get that at Publix or Kroger. But, I didn't know if they just got busy and ran out or were behind in their orders, or heck they could have just had a bad day. We did however wind up getting six cupcakes, they were okay it wasn't really anything to write home about. I have had much better locally and at the grocery stores. I spotted this place after getting myself a delicious salad from Chop Chop next door to it. The aroma of fresh baked cookies called to me. But I really wasn't impressed with the very small selection. I got a cupcake, some cookies and a slice of cheesecake. The cheesecake was good, but then, you really can't mess up cheesecake, though after tasting the cupcake, it's hard for me to believe that it was made in that shop. I had a strawberry cupcake with a simple buttercream frosting. It tasted like it came straight out of a box. I could have made that myself at home. When I go to a bakery, I expect it not to taste like box cake. I was very disappointed. I actually enjoyed my salad better. read more

I'm new to the city and was looking for a cake for graduation. I took a huge chance with Batter Up. I hadn't been in the shop before and this is a big occasion for my family. But they were GREAT. I had heard good reviews from this bakery from friends and had tasted one myself and thought their cakes were really good. However, when I actually bought a cake for myself, I am very disappointed to say the least. I had been excited about this cake for over 2 weeks. My experience went as following: We walked in, were greeted, showed our receipt and the lady who greeted us proceeded to search for our cake for several minutes. She had to do some asking around about it, but eventually found it. It was completely undecorated other than the fondant. They said it was a misunderstanding so they decided not to decorate until I got there. Because of this, they last minute asked if I wanted some flowers on it l and I was like yeah I guess, because some premade flowers as all they really to work with it seemed. So the lady picked one flower that I really didn't like, but kept insisting on it. I reluctantly agreed to it, then the person that came to pick up the cake with me noti my unhappiness and actually got me to request it to be changed. The rest of the flowers were also basically chosen by the lady to her liking rather than mine. Then for the message, the lady brought it back and quickly wrote the message down, and I believe accidentally wrote it too high up so drew so she doodled a swirly thing closer to the bottom in an attempt to make it look like there was no mistake. The whole situation was quite unprofessional it seemed, and they almost completely disregarded my initial decoration requests. After how much they charge for their cakes, this feels unacceptable. I could have gotten a cake from the walmart bakery or Costco decorated better than this cake. I am irritated and disappointed with the way my cake turned out, and I would not recommend purchasing a cake from here. UPDATE: although I had a bad experience with the decorating aspect of this bakery, the cake tasted wonderful. I am unsure of whether or not I would purchase from here again still, purely based on the price that was definitely overpriced. read more
