Sweet Caribou is located in the Olympic Center Plaza, right in the corner that is easy to spot. After getting a breakfast burrito at the newly opened Bema, my husband and I decided to check out Sweet Caribou. I ended up getting: 6 macrons, $13- If you purchase the macrons individually (of 5 or less), they will cost you $2.50 each. For the flavors, I picked: birthday cake, almond joy, after dinner mint, rose lychee, orange creamsicle and mango. Each flavor was very good. My husband and I enjoy sharing them. Service was friendly but they were definitely busy on a Thursday afternoon, around 12:45 pm. Sweet Caribou is a nice place to grab a bite to eat (they have sandwiches and salads on the menu), a coffee or tea and a little sweet treat. Sweet caribou has fresh salads, sandwiches and their macaroons. When I walked in the area is pretty empty, with 4 cash registers in about the middle of the floor with a cold case to the right that holds the sandwiches and salads. It's a little intimidating walking in and 4 people greet you you feel pressure to grab and go. I didn't even get a chance to see what macaroons they had because the sign was far away and not prominate, and I really felt rushed. Luckily I had a free lunch so I paid 0$ for my sandwich and was offered a free water as well. I took it next door to eat because I was getting a coffee but there were some tables to sit at. The salads are not your everyday ones but you'll have to look them up. Sandwiches are unusual too, I've only gotten the O'Malley even though it was ham but I like the olive spread. The bread is good but gets tough. I'm not sure if they make any of these items in house I have heard they do not, only the macaroons. Hmm. Kinda spends for a sandwich at $15 but comes with chips. No napkins were available and it was messy. I've had my fix it won't be a go to. read more

"Right?!?" And so I checked, and lo and behold, there was no review. And so I began to catalogue the memories of my many encounters. I quite vividly recalled the Mesquite Salad and the Quinoa bowl. The specially made sandwich with olive tapenade and super tasty bread. And those tiny macaroons specially packaged with the sandwiches and salads. THOSE MACAROONS. Lost count of all those delicious morsels I've popped into my mouth like a Cheez-it. The exemplary nature of Sweet Caribou is the care in which they take packaging every salad. The avocado is packaged in water to prevent browning, the chicken and veggies separated from the green with wax paper to, I imagine, keep the lettuce crunchy and fresh. Every salad loaded with a variety of delicious ingredients that tend to create a very delightful salad to toppings ratio (for those of you who despise "rabbit food"). There are a variety of specials that tend to keep even the frequent visitor intrigued. Finally, this is an ideal lunch spot, especially if you need something quick. I have purchased their macarons on a few occasions from the booth at the south Anchorage farmers market. I love them! The cookie part is light and airy, the fillings are always the right amount of sweet, and they have some amazing unique flavors! My favorite flavors are birthday cake, Rose lychee, strawberry lemonade, and tiramisu. Really great macarons! They also sell cupcakes that are very delicious! Hopefully someday I'll have an occasion that warrants purchasing a macaron tower lol. My husband's boss loves the salads here. He picks one up everyday for lunch. He also graciously gives my husband the mini macaron to bring home to me. After my husband told me about these salads I became intrigued and figured I must try them. Today was that day as I was in the area for something else. I picked up a Kenai kale quinoa and a Talkeetna ginger sesame. Both were delicious! They come with a tasty micro-macaron (not to be confused with a "macaroon" which is a coconutty American treat) I ordered online, it was quick-and-easy. I went to pickup my salad and it was with a driver? (not sure about their process, but maybe the salads aren't made on-site?) While the first think that comes to mind are delicious macaroons when I think about Sweet Caribou, this small store tucked to the right of Uncle Leroy's offers far more. The macaroons are tasty. They come in an assortment of flavors with some variation week to week. Examples include mint chocolate, Fred Flinstone (with fruity pebbles/confetti), Mocha Hug, Early Grey, Rose Lychee, and Pink Lemonade, to name a few. If you get a box of 6, cost is $12, but there are larger box options as well. My kid had the Fred Flinstone and when asked to pick 2 words to describe it, he said "yummy" and "sweet." They can be a little sweet, but not overly so. The big bonus here is their lunches. They have a great list of pretty decadent salads which are of good portion size. (you also get a mini macaroon in your salad). Their monthly special is often good. And big bonus - they deliver - which is awesome for work lunch parties/meetings. My boss wanted to go to lunch and wanted a salad, the first place I thought about was Sweet Caribou. I knew they catered because my husband has had catering from them numerous times but I wasn't sure about seating. I called in advance and, yes, they have seating. So, it's pretty chaotic, especially during the time we were there 12:30ish. It's a walk up place your order for a sandwich or grab a premade salad. Then you find a spot to sit, which might be communal seating or you may get your own two seat high top. I got the the Huffman Horseradish sandwich and the boss got a premade salad. We went and sat in the cafe because it was a bit more quiet and we needed to talk shop. My sandwich was awesome and with my sandwich I got about a cup sized salad (kale, quinoa and other stuff) which was very tasty! All orders get a mini macaron, boss didn't like macarons so I got two chocolate ones! For the price, I think the sandwich is the better deal. The boss was really happy with his salad, which was a soy/ginger with a good portion of chicken and he thought both meals were reasonably priced. I would knock off a half star simply because if you're a newbie to the place, it seemed rushed. Other than that, the food, the vibe, the fair price.... I would totally go back again. read more
