Quality products, for sure. $32.99 per pound, imo, is high but the price of cacao is certainly up. I like the candy fruit slices ... they have flavors like grapefruit which were unexpected and flavorful. I wonder if Geri's chocolate is considered "small batch" or "single origin cacao" ... if so, my novice opinion is not worth consideration as this per pound price is very reasonable. Loved this place! Sweet Expressions by Geri is packed with so much fun--from candy, chocolate, and ice cream to drinks, books, and quirky gadgets. Walking in honestly made me feel like a kid again. I picked up some gummy whales, truffle chocolates, and Jersey Girl Chocolate bars--everything was delicious! The ladies at the front were super kind and welcoming; I think one of them might've been the owner. There's also a second floor that looks like it's set up for workshops or events. While in the area visiting a different establishment, I was captivated by the line of people waiting outside to step in to the fairly newly opened shop which by the way resides inside an old movie theater. Luckily the morning was not too cold and the line moved fairly quickly, before entering this candy haven establishment. The space indoors is bigger than expected, although you're not allowed to go up the stairs to the second level. The main level is large enough to take in all the beautiful gift ideas for all ages as well as the sweets and chocolates you'll see everywhere you look. There are specialty items for different aspects of cooking and for all celebratory ideas. The most intriguing part of my visit was the wall full of quirky clocks. They came in a shapes and colors with fun designs, a great gift for all ages. The staff was helpful with answering our questions on specific items and the line to pay went very smoothly. Will anticipate visiting again in the near future. I'm sure they have cool gift ideas for valentines's day, the next holiday in our midst. read more

This is a great shop to get lost in because it is adorable. Beautifully decorated and brimming with charm in every corner! I wanted to buy everything but instead got a few select items for my valentine ahead of time. They have friendly staff here. The candy and fudge looked delicious. We brought 10 year old girls to have a day in downtown Denville and when we stopped here they were in candy heaven and had so much fun looking and being in this shop. They even sell kitchen decor, accessories, a section with chocolates, clothes, and gifts for welcoming a baby. Every time I go in this store, I wonder why I bother. The quality of the merchandise isn't stellar; my absolute favorite candy is See's. The candy they sell doesn't compare and are no way close to See's quality and are soooo expensive; not worth it. As soon as I walked through the door of Sweet Expressions I was left speechless. The best way to describe it is like Willy Wonka, but ten times better. I don't know what was more enchanting, the alluring smell of decadent chocolate or the sheer beauty of the products and displays. It really does leave you at a loss for words. I was greeted warmly by a few employees that made me feel genuinely welcome. As I shopped I found stunning chocolate treats, amazing nostalgic candy and truly unique gifts that brought out my inner child. I ended up getting a little bit of everything (house made snickers cookies, retro candy and of course chocolate)! I had a few questions about some of the chocolate but the staff was patient and polite while I made my selections (which was appreciated because decision making isn't easy with all the tempting sweets). While checking out, I mentioned to the lady helping me that I was excited to give my niece a few things just HAD to get for her. She offered to wrap them or put them in a bag with tissue paper (for no extra charge), which saved me from stopping at another store. Needless to say, the customer service is just as amazing as this store. If you're still reading, please know the quality of the chocolate is with EVERY PENNY! I cannot go back to Lindt (or other similar brands) because I can taste the difference. Since finding this gem, I've been raving about them to my friends and family. It's my go to shop for delicious sweets and unique/personal gifts. TERRIBLE!!! My family decided to take a trip to Denville and while driving we saw a bright sign that said " SWEET EXPRESSIONS " . My stepdad had actually been to this place before and, had had a good experience. We parked the car and rushed inside to see what excitements awaited. Not even a second after we entered the building a female employee came up to us and said that we had to leave because they were closing in 10 minutes. Of course we were confused because there were still multiple customers inside and it was 10 minutes before closing time. The tone this woman used was so off putting and disrespectful. The most difficult aspect of this business - as is with so many amazing food and beverage outlets - is its location. If we weren't in town for my daughter's volleyball tournament, we never would have found this place. But we were...and we did...lovely. We unknowingly pulled on the amazing jellybean-filled door handle 10 minutes before opening and were welcomed by a Texas-born woman who emitted an ownership quality I am trying to find in every employee I hire (she was not the owner). Without going into too much detail, the old matinee theater now confectionary/cooking school used to be located down the road a bit. A year into its new digs and it impressed me, especially the 2nd floor kitchen and party rooms. Obviously the draw is the chocolate, candy, cookies, etc, but the trinkets and keepsakes rival Cracker Barrel. You will see repetition in some displays and apparently the decor changes with the holidays. There's even a gluten/dairy free/vegan area. Lemon cream cupcake was good, chocolate was better. Both were packaged in plastic containers with sealed tabs which allows you to store the other half easily. Lemon macaroon was good, peanut butter-filled/milk chocolate covered pretzel was better. If they sold cold milk by the glass, I would have bought one to wash these down. This place is not for everyone - it's a bit pricy (but really good, house-made desserts are), a little vivid (it will be overwhelming for some) - but they do ship. Nassau candy seems to provide the items not made in the store. read more

Looking for something sweet for me and the wife and purchased two slices of cake and two cookies. Cake was old and dry...cookie was undercooked and old. Went to a cooking class last night....what a great experience....chef Eric was great...he taught us all about basic sauces....and added many useful tips to use at home...this is a great thing to do with friends or if you want to go alone....all the guests were friendly and we were able to eat in or if we wanted to pack it up and take it home. Really disappointed in this place. This is the SECOND time that my 4 year old had to use the bathroom and they wouldn't let my kid use the bathroom. Both times were emergencies. My wife was there with my 4 year old, my 2 month old and my niece. My kid was crying in the store to use the bathroom, and they didn't let her use it again... and this time she had an accident. I get it that they don't want random people using the bathroom, but really... a 4 year old little girl crying in the store. We will not be shopping there again. read more

I was treated very rudely by two adult women working here over the span of maybe 10 minutes. A week before Valentine's, but not busy, not crowded. With a cast on one arm, I approached one of the front counters with a few things in my one good hand. I set them on a spot out of the way from the main action. I asked if I could please rest my candy here while I shopped some more. The woman behind the counter said no, that we don't like customers to put things here. I said I understood but that I only had one arm to use, showing her my cast, and that I couldn't carry much. She gave me a sour look and turned her back on me. After looking around for a few minutes, I noticed an open staircase in the middle of the store. I got halfway up and could see there was no merchandise up there, but a cooking studio. As I turned back around, someone was shouting at me. A different woman behind another counter was literally yelling at me, that I couldn't go up there. Her expression and tone were not kind and I felt like a kid being scolded. The stairway was not clearly marked as private, off-limits etc. What was the big deal? It wasn't an enclosed staircase, but open to the rest of the store. If you don't want people going up there, rope it off. At the very least, don't reprimand people for wandering up. I'm a petite, middle-aged female, with one arm in a cast, hardly someone about to cause a ruckus. I left without buying a thing. I'm a psychologist and understand the level of stress in the world right now. A candy shop, however, is the last place I expect to leave frustrated and disappointed by a lack of empathy, respect and basic kindness. Please be sweeter! read more

I have come to like Denville. Quaint little downtown area with good restaurants and ice cream shops. When my gf mentioned this place I kind of laughed it off as I though it was just a run of the mill sweet shop. We needed to get a gift basket so we stopped in here. If you are on a diet, not your place to go. The assortment of chocolates and candy is plentiful. All you need to do is select what type of items you want and they will put them all so nicely in a basket. The staff really is helpful. We were looking at hand towels and opened one up because the packaging was covering the wording/saying on the towels. Some towels had samples of the wording/saying and some did not. After opening one towel up and repacking it exactly how I found it, a lady came over and yelled at me for opening up the packaged towel. She stated every towel had a sample, even though they did not. I was planning on purchasing several hand towels but after being yelled at I told her I was leaving and would not purchase anything. If you want to be yelled at for touching an item before purchasing it, this is the store for you! If you want to be treated respectfully and the staff to act professionally, do not shop here. Wow! Went to this area for the first time for a restaurant and passed by this place and decided to go in on a whim. Glad we did! The store is delightful and has a wide assortment of candy, decorations, and other fun little items. My toddler had a blast just looking around. The staff was super helpful and friendly. You know the movie Mister Magorium's Wonder Emporium? Well, this place is like that but for candy. REALLY fun to walk into and very cool stuff here. They were very busy when we walked in, but the staff was kind enough to stop and ask if our toddler son wanted a piece of chocolate on the house. That was so thoughtful of them. We kindly declined because he was already hopped up on sugar, but SO appreciated the gesture. We walked out with a small bag of chocolates from their case and were so pleasantly surprised! They are a bit pricey, but I don't think unreasonably so because of the quality of their products. They also have some pretty yummy looking pastries I haven't tried yet (to include and assortment of macarons and HUGE cupcakes) and I hope to do that soon. read more

I saw this store called sweet expressions and I wanted to walk around for like a minute and keep in mind it was 3:45 p.m. The door was locked and the sign said open and one of the staff came out and said that they closed at four but it was literally 3:45 PM.
