She not only switched around her schedule to accommodate me, she also checked in with me while I was in the hospital to make sure we were still on track with the picture time( newborn pics are usually taken within 2 weeks of the baby's birth). On the creative end she listened to my ideas and did her hardest to recreate my vision. I wanted lots of colors and a picture created with Diwali(festival of lights) theme in mind. Melissa did not the necessary research and even went to purchase several items to make things happen perfectly. During the day of the shoot she as quick,efficient and truly a baby whisperer. My baby slept through the entire shoot! Her studio is also perfect with the temperature adjust for the baby's comfort. She has diapers, breast pump, baby wipes, hand sanitizers, in short all essentials needed for new moms and babies. She also has a nook for snacks for the parents and outfit options for moms to wear at the shoot. I also got my pictures within 2 weeks which was amazing. Additionally, even after getting the pictures I was not happy with one particular picture and Melissa did her damnest to make it better including offering to retake the pic. In our personal journey our baby came early and had to spend a little extra time in the hospital in the NICU. Knowing most people get photos done when their full-term babies are one to two weeks old I knew our schedule would be totally off, but I wondered if it was ever gonna be safe to get some done in time with such a tiny tiny baby still after discharged. We were blessed to find Mariela, who not only is a fabulous photographer, but close to our home, very skilled working with tiny babies/history of NICU experience, and a mother herself - - she had a very soothing warm presence. She wore a mask during our whole session working with our baby, handled baby with gentle care, and made everything look so effortless. She allotted a generous amount of time for taking photos as well as time to feed then change baby's diaper. She was receptive to our design and color scheme, ideas, and also offered her own creativity of what she thought would be suited for our baby based on nursery photos we sent her so she could understand our family's vibe better. And she nailed it! Every photo was so beautiful, choosing was impossible. I absolutely loved working with Mariela from the initial phone conversation just getting to know her, to actual photo shoot day, when deciding to work with her, and, of course, through choosing our gallery which she offered to guide us through as well and receiving the final products. From the start, I contacted Milana the week of my baby's due date. She was very gracious and understanding. She was timely to answer emails and made a real effort to discuss my vision and get to know me with an over the phone consultation. She shared a lot about her experience as a birth photographer and some even about her own experiences w her children's births. Interestingly she mentioned she has such a passion for birth, that she is considering training as a doula in the future.
