They have a large waiting room and only once during my pregnancy did I have to wait longer than 10-20 minutes to be called back. They do have a strict late policy and the one time I was late, the receptionist was a bit sassy, so make sure you are on time! A couple times she wasn't in the office so I had to see other providers. The mid wives I saw were all fabulous! I also saw Dr. Dehoff who I did not care for. It seemed like he was 'mansplaining' and I felt extremely rushed and like my questions weren't welcome. He said "do you have any questions as he opened the door to leave". I would not see him again but everyone else was amazing and I received the best care!!! When in the hospital delivering my daughter, the Dr's and mid wives from this practice were all really nice and listened to me/my concerns. I have debated posting this because I fear harassment from the general public and retaliation from…read moreNovant, Providence OBGYN and Phillip DeHoff, who have already hurt me and my family so much. However, because medical board complaints are not public, and because it is rare for doctors to face tangible consequences from such complaints, I view it as my duty to share this and inform Charlotte area women. My silence may protect me from harassment and retaliation, but it also protects doctors who are already protected by the institutions they work for. This only results in more women being hurt. So I am sharing this despite very being so frightened of what may come of it. On November 29, 2023, while sitting on my couch at home I started hemorrhaging bleeding through my pants on to my couch, scaring myself, my husband, and my boys. I was bleeding so much, I wouldn't have been allowed on a plane. I went to the Novant ER thinking I'd be treated promptly. I had an IUD and learned that I was pregnant with a blighted ovum (no fetal heartbeat, no baby, just an empty gestational sac). The on-call OBGYN was DeHoff. The next 15 hours were the worst of my life. It's hard for me to recount the events because one of the symptoms of the PTSD caused by those events is to feel like you're reliving them, so I am enclosing pictures of the complaint I filed against DeHoff with the NC Medical Board. You can see them in the practice pictures. Since I've started sharing this story, I've learned that a woman who I know from my sons' former preschool also filed a complaint against DeHoff with Novant and Providence OBGYN in September 2023, two months before I encountered him. This woman also informed her OBGYN Dr. Nora Arronte of her concerns regarding DeHoff and subsequently filed a complaint against DeHoff with the NC Medical Board, which is currently pending (like my complaint). Thus, Novant and Providence OBGYN (and at least one of Providence OBGYN's other physicians, Dr. Arronte) appear to have prior knowledge of this doctor's track record of harming women. My understanding is that since I submitted my complaint, De Hoff is no longer doing OB work, and is only doing GYN work. I do not know if this is as a result of the complaint, whether De Hoff has lost his hospital admission privileges or if this is the natural career progression of an aging doctor with multiple malpractice complaints pending before his licensing board. I am frightened to share this but view it as my civic duty to inform this community of someone I consider a public danger to women who remains employed by a "reputable" practice despite their apparent knowledge of his actions.

This year my Primary doctor was unavailable so I was able to see Kathy Shields, for my annual exam. Kathy was wonderful! As others mentioned, Kathy made me feel extremely comfortable with her, she asked a lot of questions and answered all of mine. We talked for 20 minutes prior to the exam which made the entire process go very smoothly. I will definitely make sure I see her next time, when my doctor is unavailable. One disappointing thing I remember each year is you cannot schedule your next year's appointment when leaving. It appears their systems only allow 2-3 months out of appointments. Not sure why since everything other doctor I see I am able to schedule a six-month and/or 12-month appointment when leaving. They do however send a reminder email and/or phone call three months prior to your annual exam to allow you to reschedule. However, based on the fact people make appointments it is very hard getting in when you can, with that late of notice.

We love and care for her greatly. The practice has been fantastic as well. This year, our daughter is with twins and at approx 32 weeks , she was in distress. She called for some direction and a nurse2 named " Paisley " was not only somewhat rude to a pregnant woman in distress but appeared to be new or lacking knowledge. She directed her to Primary care. When she arrived at the primary care in Denver NC, they were so very kind but perplexed as to why she was sent there. They examined her and recommended to check with the OBGYN. Paisley again said no, so my daughter called CMC and they got her back right away. They did their thing in checking her out and found one of the children's heart rate would dip and come back. This happened several times. The doctor, whoever she is, should get an award, but I am sure, God will reward her, for she said for those babies to come out right away. It is an answer to our prayers for comfort and relief for our daughter and child because the placenta detached from the mother (happens in only 1% of people). Surely, the child would have not made it. Happy we went to CMC yet we are so sad and somewhat let down, that someone like Paisley is giving instructions to folks who are in jeopardy. Wake up Paisley. Seek wisdom, knowledge, ask for a mentor and maybe some phone side manner. We do not hate you, but we hope you get what you need to help expecting mothers and do not waste time because there may not be enough time, as it almost was here. PS, We know, not thought , that this should be reviewed by the people who look into these neglects of duty and of course, like the rest of the world, they ok'd how Paisley handled this and we know this to be FALSE. I consulted a handful of naturopathic doctors before I chose one, but nobody compared to Dr. Leander. She has literally saved my life! At least, it sure feels that way! When I came to Dr. Leander, I was having terrible pain in my gut. I became bloated, lost all my energy, and was so weak I could barley move. I went to a gut specialist medical doctor, before I found Dr. Leander. This "gut specialist" gave me 20 seconds of his time, cut me off, and then prescribed me a pill to take. When I asked why I was taking this medication, his exact words were, "This pill is $1200, a pill that expensive is bound to work." I went home and did some research, discovering that this pill was known to cause immobility, cancer, and could destroy the lining in your stomach permanently. I called him 4 times to address this. When he finally got back to me, I asked him why he didn't tell me how bad this pill was for my body long term. His words were..."You didn't ask what bad stuff it would do." WHAT? So it's the patient's job now to stay on top of doctor's about being ethical? Needless to say, I knew it was time to consult a Naturopathic Doctor, somebody that takes preventive measures to cure people, instead of prescribing damaging medicine. This is when I found Dr. Leander!! She gave me her undivided attention, listened, and got me on a plan that cured my gut pain and symptoms in 2 weeks without any long-term damaging side effects! How do she do it? With oregano oil and a diet of no gluten. Dr. Leander found the root cause of my pain (stress, exhaustion, and a diet that needed to be changed because certain foods were causing my gut to be inflamed), and I have not had gut pain since! She is caring, encouraging, positive, and supportive. I wish all pregnant people had a support system like her during their pregnancy. She created a practice for me to follow to prepare my mind and body for birth, helped my husband and I create our list of birth preferences, provided us with incredible amounts of education, and cheered us on and loved on us the whole way. Her excitement when I would send her updates after my appointments always made me weepy. She was so excited and happy to help us bring our child Earthside. She was also kind enough to answer numerous, random first-time mother questions. Like is my crib mattress too big for the crib accompanied by about 15 pictures! I never felt like a burden and was always encouraged to reach out with any question and concern, no matter how big or small. Britney is incredibly smart in her own right, but there was also never a question she could not answer because she is not afraid to reach out to her wide network of doula friends for answers. This showed me how much she truly cared about us. Pregnancy is filled with such a wide range of emotions from highs, lows, to joys and uncertainty, and Britney met me in all of those places. She celebrated with me, reassured me when I was scared, encouraged me, and helped me get into the headspace for a positive and unmedicated birth She was a friend, a cheerleader, a guide, a teacher, and a constant in the wild ride that is pregnancy and birth. Some version of let's text Britney became a constant saying in our house during my pregnancy that eased concerns, anxieties, worries, and fears. Birth is not just about moms and babies, but dads too. And I think dads get overlooked way too often. Britney always included my husband and asked thoughtful and insightful questions to determine how she could best help him prepare for my birth. She helped us become a united front on our birth preferences, and gave my husband the tools to support me during birth. My husband did not panic when my water broke at 36 weeks. He and I were able to decide as a calm and united front when to go to the hospital. When we arrived he knew our birth preferences by heart, and was confidently able to help me state those. This was the same for stating our preferences for our son after birth. I know for men it is not easy to see their wives in pain. My husband never suggested I waver from my birth preferences, or take medication though. He was able to remain grounded and support and encourage me the entire time. He completely understood my why for a natural birth, and this is because of Britney's coaching. She gave my husband ideas of how to support me, and he was able to lean into these during labor. He was calm and confident, and played an integral role in my birth. He held my leg while I pushed. He was able to cut our son's cord and got immediate skin to skin with him after birth. These were things Britney had helped us put into our birth preferences. They were some of the most beautiful moments I have gotten to experience with my husband. I am so grateful for Britney's guidance that allowed this to happen. Finally, Britney's practice helped me prepare my mind and body for birth. She had me do pregnancy yoga and exercises, aromatherapy, hypnobirthing, affirmations, and quiet prayer and study in my Bible. As a result, I felt like my body was completely prepared for birth. I felt incredibly strong and ready to birth my baby when the time came. I knew how to breathe, how to remain grounded, and I felt confident. Britney truly helped me go into birth empowered and motivated with a strong belief in myself and my abilities. This is essential for an unmedicated birth. Britney was unable to attend my birth because I went into labor early. She was not on call for us yet, and had a prior engagement. Britney had a backup doula lined up and she was able to be our birth doula. The positive experience we had with the backup doula showed how much forethought, care, and love had been put into choosing her. We felt the same connection to her as Britney, and she was able to step into the role so easily because Britney had prepared her so well. Britney has explained all of our birth preferences and advocated for us prior. This allowed the backup doula to step in easily, and take stress off of us. I couldn't believe how smooth the transition was between the two of them. I never even had to explain my birth preferences to the backup doula. She just knew, like she had sat through our prenatal sessions with us. I truly can't explain how grateful I was for all of Britney's planning and forethought. It showed how much my birthing experience and my family and myself mattered to her.
