My husband discovered this hidden gem. Hidden in plain sight! If you're leaving OBX, it's about Located 1/2 mile north of the Wright Memorial Bridge off US 158 on the right. Look for a sign (blueberries are in season now - unbelievably good!!) and turn at that sign on a dirt and grass track. Follow it past a one-story brick house, some fields, to a farm stand. Blueberries are now (July 7th through mid-Aug). The farm stand is open every Tuesday and Friday from 7am to noon. (Strawberry season has different times/days.) We arrived at 7:30am and there were already 10 cars there. Blueberry bushes are beautiful. Easy picking, nice wide rows. They supply a container to pick and you can buy it for 50 cents - or better yet, bring your own container(s) to take your berries home. We stopped by today 7/7/17 and they had yellow and white peaches in bags for sale too - so good.

They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. From Chesapeake it was about a 25 minute drive out to this farm in Pungo. We went early, around 12 , on a Saturday afternoon. We wanted to be the rain. You have to purchase and choose available pick times online. You can arrive anytime but can't do the u-pick until your designated slot time. We arrived and there was plenty of parking. We looked around the market first. It wasn't huge but they had a great variety of different jams, jellies, salsa, baked goods and fresh fruit and veggies. Everything was reasonably priced! We went directly outside the market to a little table to check in for blueberry picking! There young lady was polite . She scanned our qr code and gave us arm bands. She did let us know that there were a couple blackberry bushes out there as well that we could pick also. It isn't advertised because they're aren't a lot of plants. A short walk to the entrance to the patch and there picking began!! It was nice because there weren't a lot of people out so the rows weren't crowded. The bushes still had lots of ripe fruit on them! We picked for about 20 minutes, Paid 8 dollars for our pint and went to the car to take a much needed cool off break. We were told that we could walk or drive over to the orchard. It wasn't a long walk, but in the heat, and if you're carrying a box of peaches, it could be a bit much. We drove over to the orchard, parked and checked in at a little shed nearby. we picked peaches for about twenty minutes and even noticed that there were a couple nectarine trees as well. the peaches were not ripe.However, that did not deter us from picking. A simple trip home and storing them in a brown paper bag would ripen them up perfectly in about three days! We paid 20 for a half peck box. It filled up very quickly. Overall great experience!! We are going back to try the ice cream and to pick apples during that season!

It's September which means FALL!…read more First up on our Fall bucket list was apple picking. I believe Cullipher may be the only farm in the area who does apple picking. It was...ok. How they have you walk to the stand, pick apples, then walk back was a bit backtracking, and a little much for my disabled self. It is a farm and I dealt with it. It's early in the season so they only had 2 rows of the orchard open, also not their fault, it is still early. The worker at the stand didn't know which apples were in which row which wasn't helpful because we were looking for a specific one and of course murphy's law, we went down the wrong row first. That said, we had a blast! The apples we picked were delicious and I've already made a large batch of apple butter which turned out perfect. Unfortunately I do think we will travel to a different farm next year.

I love everything about pumpkin, so when I read about College Run Farm (CRF) serving homemade pumpkin ice cream, I was sold. My boys and I decided to take advantage of a gorgeous fall day and drove to CRF in Surry. If you've been to Chippokes State Park, you know how rural that road is and narrow. CRF is right up the road past Chippokes' entrance. We figured we might be the only customers there; we were shocked to see a full parking lot and many people. CRF has pumpkins available already picked, but what's the fun of that? We went to the pumpkin patch with our sheet in hand -I posted a picture- and cutters in order to cut the pumpkin off the vine. My boys decided they wanted Aladdins, and they were in Section 1, easy to find. My youngest picked a small pumpkin ($6) and my two older boys wanted bigger ones (regular $7). CRF does not weigh pumpkins and you use the honor system. You put down which pumpkins and how much on the sheet; put your pumpkins in your vehicle; and then you take the sheet to inside to pay. While inside, you can also purchase admission for the corn maze ($3 per person--free for 5 and under), which we didn't do, and homemade pumpkin ice cream, which we DID do--FTW! I thought their ice cream was a pretty good value: big waffle cones with two scoops for $3.50--especially being homemade. They also serve homemade strawberry ice cream in the spring during their strawberry season. We enjoyed CRF; it had a relaxed feeling, and we loved being able to pick our own pumpkins off the vine. They don't have lots of fall festival stuff such as a bouncy house or hayride, but that was fine with me. Surry is a bit of a drive from Suffolk, but combining a visit with Chippokes State Park, it could be an awesome day.

Peak blooms are in the next 4-5 days. Follow them on Instagram for up to date info on blooms and hours. Super friendly staff. $25 gets your group in and you can get 10 sunflowers. They'll give you a bucket but you can bring your own shears (or they have some to borrow) and they'll wrap them for you too in cool napkins for the drive home. Suggest if you have a long drive you bring some water for them. The sunflowers are beautiful and plentiful and there weren't that many bugs. Also - this is a large field of sunflowers so you can really spread out. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We roamed for half an hour before we saw other people. They have a small boutique selling themed items all featuring their bee or sunflowers. Adult shirts are $25. The bee pins are $10. A sunflower coloring book with colored pencils is $13 or $10 for just the book. Etc etc. Love love love!!!!

Not the "you'll get lost" kind of maze, more like a "you'll want to get lost" kind of maze. They opened on August 27th and reached max bloom on September 2nd. Their Facebook page indicates that you may only have another few days to catch this season's blooms. We went on a Thursday evening around 5:30 and only had a short line to get inside. The line was much longer when we were leaving around 7pm. It's $20 for 10 stems. That includes entry for up to 5 people. You can get an extra 10 stems for $10 and I think military gets an extra 5 just for showing their ID. You can't just go for the pictures, you've gotta pay. Dogs can come too- just make sure they are on a leash and you may want to bring water for them if you're planning a longer trip. They give you tips and the rules before you enter and supply you with a metal vase and cutters. I'd suggest bringing a basket instead of using their bucket though. After that the field is all yours. They have several different types of sunflowers. We got a little carried away and now I don't know what to do with all our flowers, not a bad problem to have. "By the time you're reading this it's probably too late." Cryptic, but if you're reading this after Labor Day weekend your best bet is to bookmark this for in your Summer 2021 collection and sign up for their mailing list on their website so you don't miss out next year!

Decided to get on the monster truck before leaving (9/10); it was my first time riding in/on one and it was pretty fun. To ride was $10 per person.
