Incredible experience! Kerri and Stu have created a beautiful paradise for you to be engulfed, as much or as little as you want, in all your aerial training. The living quarters are clean, spacious, and comfortable. Food was delicious and catered to unique dietary restrictions/requests. The staff are all friendly and accommodating. WiFi was strong all around the property. And the views are gorgeous! Kerri's knowledge & experience of movement and all things aerial, combined with her silliness, make for a fun, safe and relaxed learning environment. If you are looking for a place to unwind, learn something new, eat great food, meet amazing people, and train aerial in a beautiful environment, sweet retreats is the perfect place!! I miss it already!

I can't even begin to describe my experience at Sweet Retreats/Casa Chango - the facility is in a dreamy setting up on a hill with sweeping ocean views, the food is healthy, abundant, and delicious, and the programming is top-notch. It's really obvious that this was and is a labor of love, and the thoughtfulness and quality can be seen cascading through every detail. The only thing I wished for was more time to soak it in!

Absolutely the best time you will have in your life!!Aerialist or not there is a retreat to fit that of anyone looking into doing something great for your body and having fun while at it. Truly a treat for the mind, body and soul! Bring the family along as they offer a retreat alongside with the children and bond with a class each day that doesn't seem like a workout at all! You are being taught by fantastic, knowledgeable instructors that know what they are doing. The meals included are freshly prepared and can be catered to dietary need, restriction, etc. Stuart and his sous chef definitely whip up delicious, healthy nourishment after those workouts. Another perk to looking forward to! Have your meals at the common grounds and be ready to meet some wonderful people. I'm missing it all already as well as the food! Beautiful grounds all around and the staff are accommodating and hospitable. Any need or concern during your stay they have you covered. Extra activities, excursion, amenities they will lead you in the right direction. At the end of your stay you'll be looking forward to returning. Rest assured you will be feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and in absolute bliss. This place makes you feel at welcome and at home. Thank you Kerri and Stu for your kindness, warmth and hospitality. I will be back.

What a once in a lifetime experience with Sweet Retreats! Kerri and the team are such welcoming and lovely people. Rest assured you're taken care of while you're there. I thought I'd be training hard (which we did!) But the food that Stu and Yasmine cooked were top notch and easily a highlight of each of my days there. The aerial practice was exactly what I hoped it would be and Kerri + Chloe are true artists in their aerial disciplines. I learned so much at Sweet Retreats and left with my heart and tummy full

I was absolutely blown away by the insane amount of love, care and expertise I experienced at Casa Chango! I signed up for the 1 week lyra intensive and it not only improved the integrity of my movements, strength and confidence, it also immersed me in a group of the best humans I've ever had the privilege of meeting and learning with. Kerri and Dakota are completely inspiring with the amount of care, expertise and embodied insight they share based off of decades of movement art experience. Eli, Marcel, Stu and the rest of the Casa Chango staff are incredible humans that put so much love into what they do. Also, the food is amazing!!! I'm very grateful I was able to experience this retreat with everyone involved, I miss everyone already and highly recommend it to anyone considering a retreat experience. You will not regret it!! read more
Full stars! Absolutely! When I first signed up for the one month residency here, my goals were pretty much to tan and learn some circus skills lol; but I'm happy to say the community here just made everything "more" than what I was expecting. Circus classes: the classes were excelente! Master instructor(?) Kerri is amazing, to say the least. As an experienced aerialist and teacher, she knows her craft and breaks down skills in ways that are consumable by different types of learners. The visiting instructors (at the time I was here, Dwoira and Brandi) are also very kind and experienced aerial and flex instructors. Location: La Punta in Puerto Escondido is is such lovely place to live in. The current retreat location is only a few min walk from the beach. It's off the main street which is good for noise control a but similarly the main areas are only a few min walk away and includes stores, cafés, restaurants, etc. Casa Chango: I haven't lived in a community such as this before, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable experience. I had my own cabana for some weeks before moving into a shared apartment (with private room) and both were very pleasant; I even had some cute gecko "roommates" sometimes. Meals took place in a shared kitchen and were always delicious and nutritious, and the staff are very friendly. Community: Omg the people here - Kerri and Stu, the staff, the students, etc. Considering we principally went from complete stranger status to living in the same community, things felt seamless and welcoming. On the flip side of that, there was never any pressure to participate in group activities, classes, or even meals; as an ambivert, my introvert side was very appreciative and grateful for this. Overall, highly recommend Sweet Retreats for all the reasons mentioned above and move, and I look forward to staying and learning from them again in the future. read more

I did an aerial retreat in December 2019. It was a wonderful experience. The environment was inclusive, friendly and beautiful. We had a great group sharing similar interests and supporting each other. The food was organic and delicious, and I really loved the two cute resident dogs! Kerri's teaching was top-notch: Precise, patient and methodical. We went to the beach for turtle releasing on the resting day, which was one of the highlights of the trip. I heard since then they've done a lot of renovations and improvements. I am looking forward to going back and learning more. read more

Kerri, the instructors and the staff at Casa Chango are top notch! The retreat was incredibly informative, challenging and supportive. I feel like I am armed with more tools to grow my aerial practice and I have a better understanding of my body and how to use it to achieve my aerial goals. The staff was incredibly welcoming and fun to get to know. The food was DELICIOUS and the facilities were homey. The format of the one week retreat was nicely paced and provided enough space for workouts, rest and fun. I wish I could stay longer but I will surely be back! read more

Sweet Retreats was like a breath of fresh air during a rainy and cold winter. I had previously heard so much about them, but seeing their new location blew me out of the water. I had the good fortune of being there for 16 days, and it still felt like too short of a time. Upon arriving, it was so apparent that the accommodations and community spaces were built with so much thought and intention. The food was delicious and nourishing. The training space was picturesque and inspiring, with beautiful views of the sunset. Hammocks, pools, and hot-tub (which I hope to properly use the next time I'm there!) made for wonderful ways to unwind outside of training. Kerri and Stuart built something magical ... thank you for executing on your vision and creating this space for all of us. Thank you also for hiring such welcoming staff and having such cute pets Can't wait to be back read more
Aerial training, healthy-delicious food, a beautiful beach, trips to bioluminescent lagoons and night markets... this retreat is so well thought out and planned. I came expecting to revitalize my aerial practice and be inspired, but I got so much more! The instructors draw from decades of experience and the community is welcoming. I quickly felt at home and settled into what turned into a solid reset both physically and mentally. I learned new ways of warming up and conditioning, as well as new hoop tricks and silk theory. This allows me to actually enjoy my PT and be more creative on each apparatus. I plan on coming back as much as possible. read more

Loved it! This was my second aerial retreat, first with Sweet Retreats (and first that was a full week). It's very well run--a lot of training, but the rest breaks and outings are well-thought-out so that you are able to do a lot more than at home. The instruction is also top-notch; I have so much to chew on back home, and will probably be working on this material until my next visit :) read more

If I could give it 10 stars I would! I had such an amazing time here! I trained hoop with Chloe for a week and learned so much from her! She's the best! The food was delicious! Sweet Retreats is incredible! Not only was the teaching top notch, the space is gorgeous, it is an entirely self-sustained property, the food was delicious and fresh, and the pool and hot tub are always available and clean, and that's just the beginning... I actually found Sweet Retreats not through normal safe ways like word of mouth, but through internet searching "aerial sling retreat" :| I was sort of just looking for a reason to get away for a week and maybe jump-start my aerial again, since I'd been getting pretty lazy with attending classes. I ended up booking the "Aerial Dance" retreat with Jenn on a crazed whim. This past week was amazing! The classes and instructors were so good at their job (someone managed to do a flat pancake for the first time!, and someone else performed for the first time!); the food was PHENOMENAL- clean and delicious and varied and accommodating of all diets and desserts twice a day, three if you include popsicle break which is the best (shout out to food team-- the only disappointment is that you don't have a loosely-guided cookbook I can buy and fail to recreate); and although I actually had a moment of "what if I just bail because I don't want to be the one who sucks and pulls the class down" about two days before the retreat, everyone there was really welcoming and friendly and it really helped me realize that everyone is good at something (and also that even the best performers struggle with some things as well)! The masseuses they have are also amazing- I get regular massages at home fairly cheap so I avoided using any until I absolutely had to, and seriously, they are good at their job. The side activities were amazing too. Night market was fun, and I was part of the group that opted for an early night and then really regretted having suggested going back early. The turtles were so cute and I loved them so much. The dinner out was a refreshing break away from the house (although I think the food at the casa is actually still better, so it was more about the ambience honestly). And my favorite was the bioluminescence. I expected it to be the naturally glowing green kind you see in pictures online, but instead it was like being able to shoot sparks with your hands-- like magic. It was wonderful. Also, they have dogs, and the dogs are the cuuuuutest. Both of them really like to join in the groups during stretching and then nap during aerials, and they are insistent on getting pets at all times (and will poke you in the hand if you stop!). Iguanas hang out on the bush near the pool, and are super fun to watch bob their heads. I performed for the second time solo on the last night. Honestly that morning I wasn't even sure I wanted to perform, but I ended up choreographing something and performing anyway (despite nightmares of performance mistakes the previous night), and it was really great! I think if you've never performed but kiiiinda maaaaybe want to, this is a nice way to do it-- you're far away from anyone who knows you/might matter in that sense, you're performing to people who are incredibly supportive in all that you do, and yes, it does include locals to build a real audience, but they don't know much about aerial either and they're just impressed by everything :D Worth noting: 1. It was really hot. Once I decided I was fine with multiple showers in the day, pool/beach help with daytime heat a lot. 2. There are mosquitos. Honestly most people didn't get bitten, but mosquitos love me through bug spray, and they love me hard. 3. The bathrooms there have trouble flushing toilet paper, so you're expected to toss the TP into the trash. 4. Leave enough room for your layover in Mexico City. I know Kerri warned us it would be confusing, but my gosh was it confusing. Maybe download some Google maps or something of the terminals as well. There's just basically zero signage at the airport (and definitely zero signage in English). For me, 2 and 3 are the major reasons I *might* not return (I'm a little spoiled living in the Bay Area), but even that said, it was so sad to leave. I did a lot more training than I thought I would or thought I could do-- I was used to working out once a week IF that, and I was surprised how much my body could actually handle. We made good friends during the trip, and I thought I would hate having roommates but I actually loved my roommates a lot, and I miss everyone already. If heat/mosquitos/toilets aren't dealbreakers for you and you can afford the cost/time, I would *HIGHLY* recommend going. It's the best training you'll get to do with some of the best instructors, and a great way to get away from everything for a week. The hosts are really kind and really want you to enjoy your time there, and Kerri was really awesome at answering any and all questions in a pretty timely manner prior and after the retreat as well. (I had some problems with the airlines and Kerri had great advice.) And, again, my god, the food. X_X I miss the food. so much. I can't believe I have to go find subpar food for myself now and I'm super grumpy about it. read more

I was fortunate enough to participate in the Holiday Retreat in December of 2022. Kerri and Stu have been hosting aerial retreats for many years, but this was one of the first retreats at their new location. The venue was a beautifully designed eco-style property (solar energy, no AC, composting food and toilets, great wifi). I stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom and only shared the bathroom with one other room! The new property is elevated at the top of a hill so the views and breezes were excellent and made for comfortable training. On hot days, we spent the afternoon in the wonderful pool. The details in the construction were fantastic - lovely light fixtures, beautiful tiling and wood, beautiful art in the rooms. They are continuing to improve the property every day so stay tuned for even more to come. The meals were culinary - I couldn't believe how delicious each meal was for the entire week. Kerri and Stu are incredibly patient and thoughtful and want nothing more than for everyone here, regardless of level or experience, to enjoy every drop of the week. The general manager, Eli, was beyond organized and helpful and incredibly kind. My home instructor is a frequent flier of SweetRetreats and I'm so glad she recommended that I come. The instruction from Kerri and Waverly, the visiting instructor, was detailed, responsive, and scaffolded for the levels in the group. As a visiting instructor, Waverly made sure to get to know each student, was supportive in her instruction and adjustments, and certainly contributed to the affirming and encouraging atmosphere. The gym was open to all participants all week so anyone who wanted more independent or additional training was able to get it. As an advanced beginner myself, I was able to take part in what was right for me and I learned SO much. The last day of the retreat was my birthday, and I even got a special treat from Kerri to celebrate :). My only advice to you would be to ask for what you need in terms of training, and the instructors are more than happy to meet your individual needs! read more

The 1 week lyra intensive at Casa Chango was the best impulse buy I ever made !!!!! Kerri is a master aerialist and kooky hilarious mastermind -- I just love her! Kerri and Dakota are truly fantastic teachers who really are devoted to and interested in their students' progress. Don't think just go to casa chango because it will revitalize you and kickstart a new aspect of your aerial practice, one grounded in a better foundation and understanding of the craft. You don't have to be an expert aerialist, all are welcome. Food is delicious too and accommodates a range of diets. Thank you Kerri, Stu, Dakota, Eli, Erin, Susan and the rest of the amazing team. read more

I cannot say enough about this little slice of heaven in Puerto Escondido! I went for a week to a sling retreat and will never forget it. I'm so looking forward to my next trip! Kerri and Stu provide amazing hospitality and delicious, fresh and healthy food each day. Casa Chango is a really cool compound where we stayed, ate, trained, and just hung out. There is a great pool that we frequented both day and night to cool off. It is just a few blocks to the sandy beach where you can watch surfers, pelicans, and the sunset. Fresh pineapple and coconuts are everywhere! I also really loved how environmentally conscious the entire town was. Not a lot of unnecessary plastic and recycling containers on the beach. Definitely a place to experience whether you are an experienced aerialist, a first timer, or on a family adventure. read more

This was so fun and I'm so glad I took the leap to come! I know the cost ain't cheap (around $2k + plane tickets) but let me tell you, it's worth every single penny. But don't just take my word for it. Doesn't matter if you're just beginning to flirt with aerial or a seasoned performer/aerial teacher (because we had quite a few of these in my group) - this is why you should come to Casa Chango for your next train-cation: - MASSIVE swimming pool - An arsenal of self-care stuff (sunscreen, bug spray, your own personal bug zapper) - Massages on-site from local practitioners - A fan in your room, this is a lifesaver - A mini library - Two super-cute, super-friendly dogs who will make you feel better about growing calluses on your calluses - Really fun and well-planned itineraries for our day off - Excursions to a phosphorecent lagoon, a bougie restaurant with amazing views, the night market, and more - Cute and comfy Casa Chango tees and tanks - Multiple photoshoots so Kerri Kresinski + co can snap you feelin' yourself And oh my god, don't even get me started on the food. Coconut milk and passionfruit juice made fresh each day? Check. Handmade popsicles and baked snacks during breaks in training? You bet. Fresh guac and salsa and hummus, perfectly seasoned chicken, tons of veggies and super-moist fish kebabs? Duh. DESSERTS AFTER EVERY SINGLE DINNER? Sign me the **** up. And we're talking home-made panna cotta and bread pudding with real whipped cream, not tubs of ice cream from the supermarket. Granted I'm biased because I have a massive sweet tooth, but I promise you'd be raving about the food too if you had Stu cooking for you every single day. Lastly - this retreat would not have been what it was without our fearless leader, Jenn Bruyer. She was super patient and just so personal with every single student, taking the time to spot individual people if need be and break down her choreography and technique. We had maybe 10 people in our group so that's not easy! You can tell when people have a genuine passion for teaching and sharing their expertise, and Jenn was the epitome of that. It's probably going to take me the better part of a year to review and (maybe) master the material we covered, and I'm so excited to explore and discover new pathways based on what she taught us. Huge thank you to Casa Chango, Kerri and Jenn, and all the wonderful and talented peeps who trained with me in paradise! read more

Everything about my Sweet Retreats week was awesome! The classes and teachers were fantastic; the training schedule felt balanced and well organized. Kerri created a welcoming, fun, supportive environment from the moment we arrived. The food was all homemade, fresh, and delicious. (An extra shout out to daily popsicle breaks!) There was enough free time in between classes and after dinner to swim (in the pool or ocean), get a massage and relax. I left with new friends, tons of new material to practice, and feeling more motivated than ever to keep training. I can't wait to go back! read more

I had wanted to attend one of Sweet Retreats retreats for years and finally got the chance to this past February and it did not disappoint! From the beginning Kerri was amazing! I messaged her about coming and she was quick to reply and very friendly. She answered all of my questions and super helpful throughout the booking process. Arriving to Casa Chango, I was awe struck by the beauty of the grounds from the swimming pool to the well-maintained accommodations everything was clean quiet and picturesque. The hosts Stuart and Kerri are amazing, so welcoming and kind they make you feel like you are at home they're both very approachable and happy to answer any questions or concerns. I came at it as Beginner, and there were varying levels of ability in our beginner/ intermediate retreat. Kerri was amazing at making sure each of us was able to learn something new each day. She explained each new skill clearly/ helped break each down as we tried and sometimes struggles with them. She kept us all engaged, felling challenged and successful. To top it all off he unsung hero of the whole week was the Home cooked fresh food every day! Seriously this part is not stressed enough online but WOW! Each meal was better than the last. This was a real dream come true, I've already signed up for classes at home to keep practicing and mastering what I learned and hope to come back soon! read more

History
Established in 2010.
Sweet Retreats began in 2010 when Kerri went to the Dominican Republic as a guest teacher for a circus program at a resort and left with an idea. She returned home to San Francisco, California where she performed and taught circus arts full time, and told her adult recreational circus students her idea to bring them to the beach for a training vacation retreat. Kerri hosted her first retreat 5 months later and continued until 2016 when she met Stuart and moved the business to Puerto Escondido, Mexico. They currently run retreats year round at Casa Chango Mexico!

I am not sure I will be able to do justice to the Sweet Retreats experience with words but I will give it a try! Sweet Retreats was the most incredible and perfectly-balanced blend of training, amazing food, wonderful company and relaxation I could have hope for. I booked it as a special, once in a lifetime treat to celebrate finishing my PhD but I don't think I will be able to stay away and am already saving up to go back (and hoping to get a good flight deal from the UK). Training: I learnt so much - not only new skills on trapeze/hammock/hoop but also techniques on how to perform and give simple moves a beautiful finesse. Jenn, our instructor, was so helpful and patient. Even though we were all at different skill levels, some master hammock-ers whilst having never touched a trapeze and vice versa, she managed to teach everyone something new each class. I loved working with her and Kerri, who taught us how to move and listen to the music. We had 3 hours of training in the morning and 2 in the later afternoon once it had cooled down. Most of us were ready for the mid-week break and were pretty battered by the end but the rest periods allowed everyone to take part in every training session whilst still loving it. Food: Honestly, the food was some of the best I have ever tasted. Every evening we had freshly made salads, gorgeously marinated chicken or fish, roasted veggies all locally sourced with fresh herbs from the garden. I am definitely not doing justice to how good it was but I went back for seconds EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!!! We were so well catered for with food and drink available whenever you needed a snack. Yasmin made us some amazing puddings and desserts every single night so, whilst we were working our butts off training, I definitely came back without loosing any weight :p Company: I was super worried having never traveled by myself before and I have never done anything like this before. Everyone I met at Sweet Retreats was so, so lovely and kind and fun to hang out with. I was so inspired watching everyone perform and made some amazing friends who I hope to visit stateside and to host in the UK in the future. Relaxation: whilst we trained hard, we also had plenty of time to chill by the pool, read our books in the shade, swim in the sea at sunset and enjoy the extra activities. Releasing the baby turtles was such a heart-warming experience, totally worth the mere 100 pesos. Dinner on our day off at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the seaside sunset was incredible whilst the Night Market was a brilliant way to blow all the pesos. Overall, I had the best week. I learnt so much, met some incredible people - it was the perfect escape from reality. As a note to others looking to come here, I found Sweet Retreats doing a bunch of internet searches. I was a bit worried in the back of mind that it could be a scam or something as it wasn't through a big company but, after doing Facebook & Instagram searches, I saw that there was a big enough digital footprint, deciding that it was legit (and of course it was!!). I would also say that it was *hot*, I was just about able to deal with it and Kerri was brilliant at advising us to how to stay cool. Just be aware that it will be hot so bring loose clothes and training gear that won't make you melt! Thanks for an amazing Sweet Retreats, can't wait to go back! read more

I don't really know where to start because this experience was life changing for me. TLDR; Everything is awesome, just go, you won't regret it. If I were to break it down to areas I would comment on each as it follows: Program curriculum and instructors: The program is tailored to help you improve your technique by returning to the basics of aerial, understanding the transitions across basic moves gaining awareness of start and end positions to explore safely further movement options and create different paths that can be turned into beautiful performative sequences with the right amount of practice and repetition. It will dig deeper into drills that would help you gain the strength and flexibility to work efficiently with your entire body. All the acrobatics, flexibility, dance and creative classes are designed to help you achieve all around artistry. The instructors will meet you wherever you are at and provide modifications and options as well as detailed advice as to how to unlock movements that may seem impossible. Overall they are an awesome bunch of movement and human mechanics nerds that are excited to share all their knowledge with you in a positive environment and in a compassionate manner. I do not regret attending any of the classes, always saw some sort of improvement even if not physical, my mood was always better after class. Accommodation and facilities: The accommodation is basic but comprehensive, which allows you to feel like you are at home. Quick dips in the swimming pool at lunch time and hot tub at sunset were a must. Everything is in great condition and continuously maintained by the staff. There is a lounge with a large selection of books from different topics that you can borrow for free. The gym has everything you can possibly need for your training and even more. Safety is always front of mind for the instructors and brought up constantly for all students awareness. Food: There is only one day of the week that the kitchen staff takes off and even while they are away, food options are provided to be delivered in place or rides to get your own food outside are offered. In general, I loved not even having to think what to cook, you wake up and brekkie is waiting for you, finish training at lunch time and only have to go to the kitchen to pick and choose from the buffet style lunch whatever you feel like, after the afternoon nap, iced coffee and sweets are waiting in the kitchen, and for dinner, again, just walk to the kitchen, food will be waiting for you. The food is varied, always delicious and always more than enough. Some noteworthy extras: - the staff is super lovely and helpful (all of them, no exceptions) - all the photoshoots are a great experience and an awesome take home gift to yourself, don't write yourself out of it - the wildlife experiences offered are lots of fun - Puerto Escondido is a lovely town - you'll get all the furry love from Mole, Izzy, Tutti and Bigotes - you will make friends, and then you will cry saying your goodbyes because people going to Casa Chango become your family in a way. read more

My recent stay at a 3-month aerial training residency FAR exceeded my expectations, and turned out to be one of the most positive and enriching experiences in my adult life! I was going through a rough, depressing life transition (still am, but now it feels totally manageable after the magic of Casa Chango) and really just hoped to have a place to be, food to eat, and physical exertion to fill my time and distract my mind for a little while, but what I actually encountered was so much more. The moment I dragged myself up the stairs to my shared cabana (Casa Solaris, a cabana for two) late that first night, I was absolutely delighted. I immediately knew that if all else failed, I would have a comfortable (and acceptably rustic) refuge from the world at large in that cabana, and I was absolutely right. Gorgeous sunset views, a cozy outdoor/indoor kitchen and lounge area with comfortable couches, and a spacious bedroom with pretty touches. A minute's walk from a lovely pool, the aerial gym, Casa Chango's communal kitchen, and a breezy palapa I was able to access regularly for solo workouts, pole fitness, and offering (or receiving) bodywork sessions. The crazy thing is, I know that the living and training areas will be even better once Sweet Retreats moved to their new, custom designed art farm! I can't wait to see! Meals were provided twice a day and were full of healthy and delicious vegetables and protein, and I had access to fresh eggs, super special fresh-baked bread, tons of tropical fruit (much of it grown on the premises) and ingredients to stock our cabana kitchen for breakfast and snacks. I got in the habit of cracking open coconuts to make my own leche de coco every week, too! What a treat! Anyway, more important are the classes, instructors, facilities, and training programs. I was wildly impressed by the logical, humane, and EFFECTIVE training progressions we were led through by Kerri, the director, and then by guest teachers Dwoira and Brandi. Not only did I see and feel clear progressions in strength, skill, flexibility, and artistry, I never woke up in pain (as I often did as a college fine arts dance major 20 years ago from constant overtraining and illogical methods). I feel stronger and more capable now than I did in my 20s (and I'm 42!) Finally, I have to mention compassion and community. Kerri and Stu and her staff foster genuine human connections and live lives based on kindness, and it's abundantly clear that they truly care about humanity, animals, and the environment as a whole. La Punta, Sweet Retreats, and Kerri are all rare gems! I feel a bit like I've gained more chosen family throughout this residency and am motivated to work not only to become a better aerialist, but also a better person. I'm happy to say what felt like a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity before I arrived has shifted to a "how can I make this part of my work and lifestyle" situation! read more

When it looked like the world was going to shut down, I asked myself: What would I need to be happy and content? My answer: Good company, good food, to feel safe, and of course, aerials. Here at the Sweet Retreats Artists Residency I get all of that and more! I am surrounded by some of the most supportive and open people I have ever met. Here, I can truly be myself--I can share my hopes and fears, I can laugh and cry, and am totally accepted for who I am. Kerri and Stuart create a supportive family environment that makes me feel totally at home. I have developed friendships that will last well beyond the time I spend here. If I was at home in lockdown (or even pre-covid!), I would be eating vaguely healthily with a lot of sugary snacks and alcohol. Here, Yaz and Stuart make delicious healthy meals every day, which we mostly eat together around the pool. Snacks are fresh mangoes and most of my alcohol consumption has been replaced by fresh juices... except on the weekend when some of us will have a few drinks together. Many people thought I was crazy to go to Mexico in a time of crisis, however I feel far safer here than I would back home. We don't have to go to the shop or come into contact with people outside of our Sweet Retreats bubble. I don't have to trust that other people are safe, because we are all in agreement with being careful, and we all socially distance when there is a new arrival to be extra careful. I feel safe and cared for. And aerials. My main driving force to get here--I knew without aerials I would struggle physically and mentally in lockdown. Here, we have classes most days, focusing on skills and artistry. Kerri is the most amazing coach--She encourages everyone to live in their own body, and recognises the strengths and limitations of each person, with no judgement, and a clear focus of how to help you meet your goals. Teaching here is not one-size-fits-all: Kerri tailors training to the individual. I have already made so much progress in my aerial practice: I feel confident in exploring new pathways and movements with my body I am developing a sense of musicality and performance I am starting to break bad habits feel as though I am on the pathway to becoming an artist . In short: if you want to feel safe, spend time with some incredible individuals you can call family, if you want fresh and amazing food and to take your aerial training to the next level (whatever that level is!), come to Casa Chango for the Sweet Retreats Artists Residency. read more

Wow it is hard to put this experience into words that really do it justice. This is such a thoughtful, wonderful space and community to be a part of and I feel lucky to have been invited to coach and be a part of it. I stayed for 4 weeks as a coach for one of the 2023 residencies. Throughout my stay I felt like all of my coaching and personal needs were not just met but exceeded. Kerri, Lily, and I worked smoothly as a coaching team and I found myself constantly inspired by their creativity, energy, and ability to hold space for growth. The gym is a literal dream of a training space with all of the gear and equipment an aerialist could hope for. There were so many curated events/experiences from Spanish lessons to days out at the beach to a bioluminescence trip that kept each week looking a little different. Thank you Eli for your organization and communication. Meals and snacks were super tasty, there was always enough, and all of the chefs were happy to accommodate any additional needs. Being cooked for everyday made me feel totally spoiled. Thank you again DeeDee, Alonzo, Denise, and Stu. Also thank you for letting me take over the kitchen space once a week to bake. I loved that everyone in the residency is invited to be a part of helping to keep the community and space running smoothly. I now know how to machete a coconut and I feel pretty good about that! From the moment I entered the property at Casa Chango for the Sweet Retreats Residency I had a sense just how much dedicated, thoughtful, loving work has gone into creating this space. The layout of Casa Chango is carefully designed to inspire creativity, community, and sustainable living with art intertwined throughout the eco-friendly property. Some highlights for me were the plants/trees that not only beautify the space but also grow some of the fruit that we had available for meals, stunning living quarters with comfy beds, a dreamy covered outdoor gym with an ocean view, many well placed lounging hammocks, a community/family dining area, solar power, lights on the pathways, and easy access to bathrooms (that also have the most beautiful sinks!). While I was there the fully enclosed dance studio was being finished and I can not wait to be back and check it out! So much gratitude for everyone that makes this space what it is. Thank you for letting me be a part of it! read more

Loved my time at Sweet Retreats! Kerri and Stu provided an incredibly supportive environment. The food was surprisingly delicious, healthy, and balanced (I thought every meal would be like rice and beans but I was pleasantly surprised). Stu would get very creative with meals. It felt nice to be taken care of. Loved not having to think about or plan when to eat and such- it gave me more opportunity to focus on training and playing. And there was still plenty of free time to explore the beaches, relax at the pool or check out a few of the cafes in the area. I was in the professional program so didn't have classes but I still got to be inspired by Kerri just being her authentic self all the time- her wackiness balanced with her genuine openness was really refreshing. I felt very supported and like there was inherent trust placed in me to teach my aerial skill in this setting. Loved having the opportunity to teach straps! One of the most surprising things for me was getting back on lyra (my first true aerial love!), after a long hiatus because of the pandemic. I got to jam with Dwoira, the lyra instructor there, learning some new things, re-visiting old sequences, and just exploring and figuring things out again. It was such a pleasure. I thought I'd have a hard time integrating into the group as they had all already been there for a month (I spent just the month of June there), but nonetheless I was still able to connect with people who were already bonded and with whom I am still in contact with and very much hope to see again. It was an environment that encouraged people to be entirely themselves. There were pool parties, impromptu dance parties, movie nights, horseback riding trips to a hotsprings, trips to their farm, etc. If anyone had an idea for an activity, we were encouraged to go with it and make it happen. I got to rent a scooter, explore other beaches, and organize a trip to a nearby contemporary art foundation for anyone interested. Overall, I felt really empowered to have the opportunity to teach and felt inspired to play and actually relax too. Truly can't wait to go back. Thank you Kerri and Stu for this little gem of an experience. read more

I decided to go on this retreat because it is so difficult to get a spot in Chloe's lyra class in the Bay Area (way too popular, I'm forever on the waitlist) and she would teach for this retreat. So I came as an industrious student, ready for bruises and stretch pain. But the whole experience turned out to be way too pleasant and enjoyable. About aerial: Both Kerri and Chloe are very very knowledgeable about proper body alignment and aerial techniques. I always think years of professional experience in the performance & education industry counts a lot, and both of them have decades of aerial experience. They really know a lot and they are super patient to break down the technical details for students. All of sudden I no longer needed to power through because I placed my elbow in the right spot on the hoop and I no longer needed to suffer the lower back pain in the bridge because I can align my shoulder right. It was the most enjoyable week of circus training. Every buck that I spent on this retreat is totally worth it. There was also a Musicality and Dance workshop hosted by Kerri, not an everyday class that I can get from my home studio or circus school, very interesting and eye-opening. I will definitely go to one if it is available in my city. About the food: They spoiled us by giving us the freshest nutritious and tasty food for every home cooked meal. We were taken to a fancy restaurant in the middle of week, I honestly think their home cooked food was much better. I still salivate a lot when I think about their fresh coconut, hummus, and bread pudding. About the community: People are from all over the country or even the world. It is a very welcoming and inclusive community, even someone painfully shy and quiet like me still made friends. I still laugh a lot today at the silly pictures and videos from the trip. Kerri recently released a residency program where students can also take Spanish classes in addition to aerial training and act creation, so far it is for silks. I hope soon lyra program can be available too! read more

I can hardly find the words to describe what an incredible experience it was to attend the Intermediate Aerial Sweet Retreat this month. Do yourself a favor, and book your trip. I promise, you won't regret it. Kerri and Stuart, and their four-legged babies, welcomed all of us attendees with open arms, and it felt like family. To say the food is amazing is an understatement. Each meal was SO healthy, and unbelievably flavorful. Stuart is truly a master in the kitchen. The training from Kerri and Laura was world-class, fun, and extremely effective. I accomplished more than I thought and came back feeling the strongest I have been in my adult life. The beach is an easy five minute walk from the retreat. The grounds are gorgeous, the gym is spacious, and there are pools on site as well. To have our days planned out, with plenty of time to go explore was wonderful, and the excursions were planned perfectly. We went night swimming in a bioluminescent lagoon, visited a magnificent cove for some beach time, and released baby sea turtles to the sea. I never felt rushed nor idle. Their amazing and friendly staff went out of their way to be sure that we were all as comfortable as possible. All in all, I came home with a huge smile on my face, warmth in my heart, with a renewed energy and passion for aerials that I plan on cultivating until my next retreat. A word on training: I signed up for an intermediate retreat as a beginner with a background in gymnastics and pole. Kerri and Laura were amazing and walking me through the basics and even helping me maneuver more advanced moves. They took the time to explain things in detail, and assist whenever was needed. The group as a whole was supportive, encouraging and pure joy to train with. This is an experience that I will never forget, and I cannot wait to return to Casa Changa! read more

I had high expectations of Sweet Retreats after seeing how incredible it looked on Instagram, and every single one was surpassed by miles. Kerri blew my mind with her knowledge of the body and silks theory, and opened my eyes to focusing on movement to grow myself as a performer. It was truly inspiring learning from her and Sophia (@cirquedancer) who taught hoop for my retreat, and the gorgeous views from the open air studio were the icing on the cake. The staff at Casa Chango were helpful and friendly, and took amazing care to accommodate my dietary restrictions and ensure that I was eating well while training (it is was delicious!). Casa Chango itself is gorgeous! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and I loved all the hammocks and hanging chairs around the buildings and communal areas. The pool was so refreshing, and the going in the hot tub after a day of training hit just the spot. Outside of Casa Chango, Sweet Retreats set up the most incredible excursions for us. It was magical swimming in the bioluminescent lagoon and I will never forget when we got to release baby turtles to the sea. It was the perfect balance of holiday and aerial practice. I made some incredible friends on my retreat, and left excited to see how I can use what I learned at Sweet Retreats to grow as an aerialist, knowing I have the ongoing support of my Casa Chango family behind me. I couldn't recommend Sweet Retreats enough, and can't wait to go back for a longer residency next time! read more

I recently completed my second visit to Sweet Retreats. Kerri, Stu, and all the staff have created an inclusive and supportive space where you can train, unwind, and have fun all at the same time. Kerri's enthusiasm is infectious; she is a master teacher who generously shares all her wisdom accumulated from years of practicing her art and craft. She and guest coach, Dakota Rooney, really helped me hone in on technique and conditioning that my body needs to progress in silks and lyra. This time at Sweet Retreats, it was super exciting to get a preview tour of the new Casa Chango Finca del Artes retreat center, Kerri and Stu's beautiful facility they are building from the ground up, which will include a custom aerial gym, comfy residences constructed from eco-conscious materials, swimming pool, hot tub, a farm to source all the yummy meals Stu makes, and overall a larger space enabling more extensive community engagement and performance opportunities. Perched atop a picturesque hill overlooking the Colotepec River with an ocean sunset view and 15 minutes to the beach, it is absolutely GORGEOUS and it's going to be the best of land and sea! I returned home from Sweet Retreats happy, rejuvenated, and inspired because taking time for self-care and deep indulgence in aerial arts improve my mental and physical health. I can't wait until the next time I can head down to Puerto to stay at the new place, nerd out on aerial, and work hard/have fun! read more

This was my second time at an aerial workshop at Sweet Retreats and I can't say enough positive things about it. The retreat grounds are an amazing layout of indoor/outdoor palapas with fruit trees overlooking the river and the ocean. All powered by solar with a very low ecological footprint. The aerial classes are a blend of conditioning and skills classes taught by world class aerialists, mixed with open gym time; and the motivation of the group as a whole makes it really fun to train and work out with a focus on both skills, and creative expression. More than that the retreat is a powerful community building experience, with the other students and staff bonding in a very accessible way - and the freedom to be both silly and serious without any judgement. But even without the circus component, this would be a 5-star vacation retreat which includes 3 fresh meals prepared for you every day, time to relax by the pool and hot tub, and the option to attend an activity almost every day like baby sea turtle release, a visit to the bioluminescent lagoon, beach trips, live music and the night market. It takes all of the stress out of visiting a foreign country. I never want to leave after the week is up and will be returning as often as possible this year and next. read more

The aerial/mixed apparatus retreat was phenomenal. You can tell that Kerri and Stu have put a lot of thought into making Sweet Retreats the wonderful experience that it is. Kerri has expertise in all types of movement (aerials, yoga, dance, etc.) and her classes really helped me increase my body awareness. She was really good about encouraging people to listen to their bodies. Handstands was offered in the afternoon, but I was too tired and never felt bad about missing. Kerri is also knowledgeable about the area and can help you schedule massages or lessons for a variety of things: surfing, Spanish, salsa. The meals were amazing: fresh ingredients, made from scratch, and tons of options. It was so nice having regular meal and snack times knowing that every time it was going to be delicious. The scheduled outings were thoughtfully planned out. I was really happy with the schedule for the week. Sweet Retreats is such a great place to relax, treat your body well, and heal your mind. I didn't expect to feel so much relief from daily life; I feel more connected to my body and mind and I'm coming home stronger and happier because of it. read more

This retreat was challenging, diverse, delicious, expanding, relaxing, sweat-inducing, exciting, unifying, well-tailored, non-judgmental, and just down right fantastic!! I participated in the Circus Fit Retreat with a focus on aerial apparatus especially the silks, and handstands/flexibility. The retreat was geared towards more intermediate level aerialists, and I came at it as Beginner, but that did not deter our wonderful teach Kerri! She was a master at including all to the level that they could work at, and would help push each in that space to reach for their potential. Though I was well behind the other students I was never made to feel stupid, untalented, or as if I didn't belong, quite the opposite! Not only were the classes amazing, but the environment was phenomenal!! From the home cooked food (which was possibly my favorite part...yeah it is that good!), to the excursions, to the wonderful diverse group of fellow students there. If you are looking for a place to bring yourself to the next level in Circus training, or just within who you are as a person, this is the place for you!! And they have lovely dogs :) read more

Visiting Sweet Retreats was one of the best experiences of my life! There are so many things to mention, and here are a few of them: Being part of an amazingly supportive community that shares the same ambition. Training with a master like Kerri, a professional performance artist with almost 25 years of experience. Learning skills and sequences from the basics in a very detailed and technical way. This is important for people who prefer to learn thoroughly rather than just memorizing. Being able to perform multiple times with a professional team! I am so lucky to have seen how to build a circus show from scratch. Acquiring other skills such as Jazz Dance and contemporary floor work. Discovering the artist within! Kerri was dedicated to bringing out our inner artists. She helped us explore new movements and encouraged us to journal about our feelings and the characters we were developing. Additionally, the place is exquisitely run by the manager Eli. The staff is friendly and helpful, everything is on time and carefully prepared. The ocean in Puerto Escondido is one of the nicest places I have ever swum. read more

Signing up for TWO back-to-back 3 month residency programs at Sweet Retreats in the middle of the pandemic was the best decision I've ever made. I was very apprehensive about traveling in the first place, but the covid protocols in place made me feel super safe and taken care of. Kerri is an amazing silks teacher that really helped me to understand silks in a way that never made sense to me before, and I feel so fortunate to have completed the month-long aerial teacher training program under her. She has such a wealth of knowledge to share from silks theory, progressions, etc. I really appreciated how much time she devoted to making sure we could practice teaching so that we left confident in our abilities. One of the most valuable parts of the residency for me has been the artistry and act creation classes. I'm so grateful for the community Kerri has created and the space she holds for us to explore and nurture our ideas. I've been so fortunate these past 6 months to have been living out my dream of moving to a tropical paradise and do a deep dive into training aerial, and I can't wait to go back! read more

Sweet Retreats This was by far the best vacation I have ever been on. I have always dreamed about attending a vacation that is focused on health and fitness. I was nervous to travel alone for the first time but everyone at the retreat was incredibly warm and welcoming. I made lifelong friends and came home feeling energized and feeling more confident in my circus adventures. The food was amazing! There was an awesome variety of delicious food every day and the food totally accommodated everyone's needs with clear labels written out for each buffet style item. We had vegans, gluten free people and meat eaters at our retreat and I never felt like I was missing out on anything because there were so many yummy options. I loved the fitness schedule and learned soo much! Kerri was not only an amazing host but an amazing teacher accommodating all levels and desires of each student. Stuart was an awesome chef, photographer and super friendly host as well. I am already planning my next trip & see many more sweet retreats in my future. Thank you Kerri and Stuart Forever grateful Kat Martucci read more

Going to Sweets Retreats was one of the best things I could have done for my aerial silks practice! I loved Kerri's teaching style, which really focuses on understanding and mastering the fundamentals of silks in order to build a strong foundation to grow off of. I also felt i was able to get a lot of specific feedback on my own challenges in my practice and how to overcome them/what specific exercises I can do to overcome these challenges. The residency offered such a great blend of artistry/creativity, conditioning and technique building which was great and a well-rounded approach!! And classes with Dwoira and Maia were always fun and the perfect amount of challenge. Plus, the food was delicious and nourishing! If you come in peak summer, DO be prepared for heat!! Very grateful to have had the space to explore and advance my skills as an aerialist and recommend it to anyone who is serious about growing their own skills and taking their practice to the next level :) Thank you so much Kerri for all the love and care you put into this experience! read more

Sweet Retreats was so much more than I expected! I knew it was going to be an amazing experience, full of friends, circus arts and nature, but where they also really went above and beyond was the retreat center and the food and hospitality! Such a comfortable space for relaxing and enjoying the views. We had options for Eco-adventure excursions throughout the week! This place is a must see because they hit all aspects of a retreat and learning experience at a top tier! The caliber of teaching was performance/ professional level, and I felt as if I was getting a private in a group setting the entire time. They are focused on you and your growth and what you will receive. I appreciated that so much ! This is my new favorite place. I miss my friends at casa chango , Stu and Kerri ( they are sooo cool) , the training studio, and all the delicious food not to mention, helping baby sea turtles to the ocean as a way to protect and restore an endangered species. I miss them too!! Do yourself a favor and live your best life by booking at Sweet retreats! read more

The residency program at sweet retreats that Kerri has put together was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. This program is special. It's completely approachable to all skill levels. Kerri has a knack of explaining things in a silly and humorous way that will stick in your head while keeping your moves technically sound. She and her instructors can break things down and can keep even a mixed level class challenged and engaged. I came expecting to have a good time, get strong, and learn some new skills, and I certainly did that. I did not expect the deep soul-searching and supportive space that was provided. While I dug through some of the darker places in my soul, I was kept fed with great nourishing food, met wonderful people, and anything I possibly needed, they found a way to provide. I have never met more open, accommodating, and genuine humans. I made connections that will last me a lifetime. I laughed until I cried, and I cried until I laughed. I came home with abs you could do your laundry on. I will absolutely return. read more
