After going back to ask for a detailed receipt i was told i couldn't take it and that they'd need it back. Basically hiding the fact you auto grated in hopes we would double tip you. Honey, this is New York City, you tried screwing over 4 servers. We know the game. Learn to play it correctly. This is my first Yelp review but I felt tonight was so absurdly awful that I had to say something. My friends and I got there at 2pm to grab a table and watch the games all night. Our server was great, we were having a great time and before the first game ended, the server explained that there was a shift change and we have to close out our tab. Before we got our check, I walked to the front and asked the hostess if we could just stay at our table for the second game. She said it was not a problem at all and joked that it makes things easier. We paid our check and ordered another round of drinks from the new server. As the second game was about to begin, the bouncers walked over and told us we had to get up and wait on line to get a new table. We explained that we had spoken to the hostess and they went to talk to her. They then explained that this is bar policy and we have to leave and wait on line for another table. Despite the fact they agreed that this was ridiculous, they told us we had to leave. When I approached the hostess, before I said a word, she started yelling: "YOU MISUNDERSTOOD WHAT I TOLD YOU AND THIS IS BAR POLICY". As I tried to speak to her, she just kept yelling 'YOU NEED TO LEARN ENGLISH' in broken English, even though I was born and raised in NY. To attack the customers, after spending money, and scream in my face before I said a word then insult me as I leave is pathetic. It's no wonder no one goes here and why no one should. ***Update: The owner now saying we harassed the hostess is typical. This is why they have a 3 out of 5 rating on Yelp despite 250+ reviews. Continuing my tour of Astoria happy hours with kids, sweet spot was good. We ordered Sam Adams seasonal, flavored Smirnoff with soda, boneless wings, chicken quesadilla and a buffalo chicken sandwich. The place was not busy at all. Service was fine. I really liked my quesadilla. My husband didn't care for his sandwich. They tried to charge me $3 too much for each of my smirnoffs but she quickly and easily fixed it. They added automatic 20% gratuity but we were not a large party. Came for brunch to discover that they don't do brunch on Sundays during football season. Instead we got lunch, and it was very good. We started with the Jack Daniels wings which were quite good, and we tried the lobster mac and cheese and I got a burger with sweet potato tots. The tots were excellent. Tvs everywhere, tons of tap beer and liquor options- manager John is hilarious, friendly and accommodating. Harry is aiite too. One night I had a surprise party downstairs for my grandmas birthday. We had the whole room to ourselves, more food than we knew what to do with, got to play our own music... my entire family (ages 13-80) kept thanking me for booking this spot! The Sweet Spot is an average, standard sports bar. Lots of TVs around the place, a pretty decent interior setup and average beer selection. The servers in little cocktail dresses/ "sexy" outfits is a played out trope, and entirely unnecessary in my opinion. We were only there for drinks so I cannot speak to the food at all, but the drinks menu had an interesting item. In red print the drink menu states "Upcharge on neat, rocks & cocktails". Our waitress explained to us that she thought the above prices were for shots only, however: 1. who in their right mind would do a SHOT of Macallan 18? and 2. is the charge different depending on the type of glass used? It really made no sense, and seemed to belong more in a cheap restaurant where you're about to see a bunch of "miscellaneous" fees to bump up the bill. The food is "Okay" not fantastic, but the bartenders obviously are not trained and do not know the difference between water and seltzer.. honestly who can't tell that seltzer has bubbles? The drinks are terrible, DO NOT get the sangria, it taste like a bad combination of apple pucker and peach schnapps. The service wasn't terrible. As a fellow person in the industry who has waitressed and bartenders for the past 20 years, I try not to complain, but it's hard when the drinks are this bad. I offered my drink to the bartender who agreed he wouldn't drink it either. If you want good drinks and food, go somewhere else. This is a money pit, they don't care about your satisfaction. Sat at the bar my 3 friends were there first I came over an hour later and ordered my drink. I ended up ordering 2 drinks and we decided to leave so we asked for the bill for just us two our other friends were staying. When we got the bill 18% gratuity was automatically added I asked about it and was told that's how we do it here and you have to pay it since you were 4. I call another bartender and ask him he tells me its added to parties of 5 or more I explain we are only 4 people and he catches a attitude and walks away. Comes back asked what's the problem I said the problem is we are four why are we being charged he says what do you want me to do he removes it and comes back I explain the card was charged and needs to be refunded. He says you even got free shots on the house I said ok I didn't ask for it and I'm not drinking it so he snatches them away and saud I need to get the card back to do the refund. My friend didn't get her refund she felt uncomfortable but my other friends had it removed from there part of the bill. Definitely won't go back here after the rude behavior when they got caught trying to scam mind you we all work in food industry. Saturday night- UFC fight night. Pretty good bar- very very large space. Main level has large flat screens everywhere. Main bar well lit with lots of beer on tap. Seating to accommodate large groups( U shape tables) and 2-4 person tables. Back and up small ramp there's an extension of main room or could be a private party room. Bathrooms -down the blue lit steps- nice though I could do without the bathroom attendant. Another private room downstairs. After the fight- music..... Going old SKOOL right now.... i've been coming into Sweet Spot for a few years now, and often with friends. I've always enjoyed the service, drinks, food. Had a bit of an unfortunate experience tonight. I was with two friends, had a couple of drinks and light food. I was very surprised to see that a 20% service charge was added to the bill and when we split the bill using credit cards, each of us was charged a $6.34 credit card fee. What? I worked many years in the service industry, and we would never auto service charge such a small group. When I respectfully approached the server about the service charge and the credit card fees, she got very defensive and basically told me it wasn't her problem. I reminded her that the menu specifically says service charge will be added for parties of four or more. We were only three people. She mentioned something very vague about the amount of our bill. The name surely suits the place. Came here on a Sunday to watch football with friends and it's live in here! Luckily my friends were already there with a table because the place was packed. People were standing, sitting, walking around, but it wasn't overwhelming. It's very spacious. I loved the decor! Very trendy, both upstairs and downstairs. There were TV's everywhere and the DJ played music during every commercial break. Shout out to Heather who was our server. She was very accommodating, pleasant, and fun. It's a great neighborhood bar located right by the N or Q train. They have set it up as a sports bar/Lounge. Their music selection is eclectic which leaves everyone happy. My first Sunday football here we've learnt to call and make reservations beforehand other wise the wait can and probably will drive you crazy. It's a good positive crowd. My boyfriend and I have a good time every time we are here. The menu has your typical bar food plus other entrees and selections. The staff is welcoming and on top of everything. Typically sports bars are not known for their wines or drinks list.. I'm typically a wine and champagne drinker and yet to have a bad glass of either. I was looking for a bar on Sunday that would have a decent selection of football games on (but mainly have the Cowboys game!).
