We heard Blackbird's has notable wings and decided to stop by. It was a football-less/NYC-sporting-event-less Sunday night so pretty laid-back. The whole space wasn't too big, with a bar and some high tops. Even though Christmas was a few months ago, the place had a holiday feel due to the lights and Christmas tree. We weren't given a physical menu, just a QR code. Blackbird's offers five flavors of wings: mild, medium, hot, nuclear, and honey BBQ. I ordered a dozen ($15.95) mild wings which to my surprise, didn't come with carrots and/or celery. You do get your choice of ranch or blue cheese. I did like the sauce, though the wings were fried a tad too long. We ordered a side of fries ($7.95) which were pretty good too. The two servers checked on us regularly and were nice. I was told this place has solid wings and it did not disappoint. I came on Wednesday and it was packed. I was told 30-40 minute wait and almost didnt stay. After debating about staying or going, we were told about table may actually be leaving soon so it'd be more like 5-10 minutes. The wing Special is a dozen wings for $11 and $7 for half dozen. It comes with one sauce and dip and $.75 extra for any more. We put an order of 2 dozen wings in with medium, mild, and Honey bbq Sauces plus blue cheese. There is also a $6 draft beer special. The wings came out piping hot and we're so delicious. I couldn't tell which sauce was mild or medium and when asking a busser, he said he didnt know which was odd. Staff should know what their condiments look like to tell the difference. Luckily the medium wasn't bad so I was able to try it also. The wings are a pretty decent size so I got full after about 5 and took the rest home. Our waiter Leah was very friendly and helpful. She checked on us just enough and was very attentive. It seemed like she was the only server that night so and it was quite busy. She handled it all very well. I have been here before. The food never disappoints!! The service is amazing, you never have to look for anyone to assist you. I was able to sit and enjoy college basketball, I'm a sports fan. They have multiple screens for viewing. Plenty of seating, including outdoor seating. read more

Really cute bar and restaurant! The decor was unique! The food was amazing we had nachos with chili, hot wings, Cajun blacked chicken pasta, chicken quesadillas, and burgers! Everything was pretty solid food wise. The wings were hot and spicier than anticipated but really good flavor and so crispy! The nachos were SO good!! Lots of beans and chili, jalapeños, olives and lettuce and it came with guac and sour cream. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was good but nothing crazy special. Ever since a new staff member (a young woman with blue glasses and a braid) started working here, the service has noticeably declined. I've been a regular at this place for quite some time and have always enjoyed the food and overall experience. Unfortunately, no matter how good the food is, poor service can really take away from the dining experience. This place has the best wings. I ordered Buffalo and bbq wings for a house warming party yesterday for pick up and they did not disappoint. The Buffalo had the perfect amount of spiciness and went nicely with the ranch on the side. The chicken is perfectly cooked and crunchy in the right places. To me, this place is absolutely perfect. Affordable drinks, great weekly specials, and a cozy, welcoming vibe are all reasons why Blackbird's has stood the test of time as a staple here in Astoria. Service is welcoming and punctual. The bar is one of those big, spacious, old school wooden ones and it's never sticky. The beers on tap are a mix of go-to classics and interesting seasonal pours. But the real reason why I will never not come here is wing night. Where else can you get a dozen wings for $12, and beers for $6? Every time I come here and look at the bill I'm pleasantly surprised, which is a rare feeling to have in this economy. Not to mention that the wings are delicious - they're not those skimpy little wings you find at some sports bars. Big, meaty, and without the ridiculous rules that Dillinger's has you jump through hoops for, this wing night might be the last real value wing night left in Astoria. I came here to watch football with friends and had a great time! The bar interior is decorated with string lights which gives it a cozy, welcoming vibe. The servers were awesome and very friendly! We ordered the French Onion Soup and the Mozzarangles (Triangle-shaped mozzarella sticks). The French Onion soup was delicious! We were told that it tends to sell out. It's on the seasonal menu, so it's not available all year long. If you're looking for a refreshing alcoholic beverage, I highly recommend the spiked Iced Tea Lemonade. It had great flavor and was a bit sweet but not overly sweet. The tea for the drink is freshly brewed in-house. This spot was a great place to have some good food while watching the game! I've been to blackbirds a few times and I'm just always so so satisfied. The wings may just be the best in Astoria. The BBQ specifically! They are VERY cleanly and follow all of the covid restrictions to the T! I really love the service as well.. always super friendly and they treat you just like one of their own. Lynn is my favorite! The service is always great. I might not have ever come here [it's a little out of the way from the rest of the bar scene], but I'm so happy I joined a local darts league that had a match here. It's super cute inside and out, and from the food I did try, I'd love to come back for more. After the first time I went, I followed them on Instagram. During this pandemic, as the weather started to get nicer, I saw them posting this awesome lemonade stand outside. We went to check it out and again, fantastic service. We've been coming to Blackbirds for almost 7 years and have always loved the food and the people. It's one of the best bars in Astoria in our opinion. This Sunday night for game 6 of the NLCS i was there with my fiancé and my brother and his girlfriend. In the 9th inning, someone changed the game volume to music and multiple people in the bar were confused and wanted the game volume to be put back on. I asked Jacky to please put the game volume back on and they obliged. I should mention i was wearing a Yankees hat because apparently that mattered to her. She then proceeded to go over to their group of friends that were taking up a full corner of the bar and tell them something to the effect of "how dare a Yankee fan have an attitude and ask for the volume to go back on" and didn't address me directly. I didn't hear anything else after that but she was clearly talking about me even more. As we were leaving i confronted her to ask why she is talking about me to strangers at the bar and she proceeded to freeze up. The other bartender, Christen spoke with me and apologized for her as their group of friends proceeded to tell me to shut the f*ck up (he stated he was Jacky's husband?) and Jacky proceeded to not say a word nor apologize. We spent close to $300 as a group and also were here this past Thursday and had an even larger tab of around $400. The local feel of the bar has always been charming but it goes both ways when they clearly get too comfortable there and try to speak about paying customers behind their back to their large group of friends that were sitting at the bar. I happened to hear her which was why i even confronted her in the first place. I hope they realize this isn't their living room and speaking poorly of customers who never acted disrespectful to them is bad for business. They don't own the place and just because their friends are all at the bar, it shouldn't give them a false sense of confidence to bad mouth people because they are having a hard night or whatever triggered her. It's a shame because we have never had a bad experience here until now. Hopefully speaking to the manager tomorrow will clear things up. This was a great place to watch the playoffs until now and unfortunately we wont be back for a while. read more

My boyfriend and his friends wanted to come here to watch the hockey team so thats how we ended up here. We ordered nachos with chili bc our waitress asked if we did i said i guess.... They had lots of jalapenos and def had some kick. I ordered the warm winter salad. I asked the waitress what the size of the salad was. She said its a pretty big size and she wasnt kidding... The salad was warm well dressed in a warm balsamic dressing parsnips. Pears,beets and this crostini bread with goat cheese. All ingredients tasted fresh and were delicious. I love when a place uses seasonal ingredients. Love when the menu changes seasonal!! My bf got the brisket sandwich. I sneaked a piece and it was out of this world... I've passed by Blackbird's many times and it seemed like a pretty nice neighborhood spot with live music and a whole bunch of different specials. I was looking for a brunch spot on Sunday-since that's what the GF was looking for and got a sports bar type of feel-not neccesarily a bad thing, just not what I was expecting. Well, aside from the gaggle of drunken fans that were yelling at the Dolphins then the Redskins then the Jets...I'm not sure if they were fans or just drunk on a Sunday and just blaming whatever team for the ills of the world. The gameday specials were pretty nice though, with half-price wings and bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. In addition they had poutine, which they called something else but fries, gravy, cheese curds is poutine no matter how you slice it. The wings were pretty tasty-with just the right amount of heat and the poppers were made in house were pretty tasty-wrapping it in bacon instead of breading and frying it was a genius move. Service was okay-well, to be honest it was slow but there was only 1 person and the bar was pretty full. If it's really filled with so many people on Sunday why not more staff? I also think there was only 1 guy in the kitchen too because our food took a while to come out and occassionally we'd see him come out clear some tables and then go back to the kitchen. I really want to like this place more but the staff could use an assist and maybe it would help with the pretty long wait times for stuff. read more

I went with my lovely wife, daughter, and her boyfriend, for dinner before we headed back to Connecticut. The atmosphere could best be described as warm and inviting for someone new, and warm and comfortable for regulars. They had a diverse selection of beers and signature drinks. We opted for a few local IPAs and had appetizers while we waited for dinner. A black bean and corn relish with fresh made tortilla chips and just enough cilantro to let you know it was there was the perfect complement to the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, served with probably the best fresh made ranch dressing I have ever had. For dinner we had A turkey burger, French onion soup, a creamy chorizo and mushroom dish, and I ordered the house special jambalaya. Everything was made with attention, care, and you can tell, a little bit of love. The jambalaya which I had was a mixture of chicken, fish, shrimp, and andouille, simmered in a wonderfully spicy broth with just enough rice to soak up every last drop. It was delicious. Not that we had room after this repast, but the one caveat to Blackbirds is that they do not serve dessert. No problem, as in most neighborhoods there are bakeshops and specialty dessert shops everywhere, so when you're done, you could work off part of the dinner by going to the crêpe place across the street! read more

Sweet potato fries - crispy, salted with a side of aioli that was very good. I think out was chipotle flavored. Nachos- crispy, cheese sauce with pickled jalapenos, black olives, tomato, lettuce & a side of sour cream and guacamole (we got meatless) Steak tid bits on garlic toast- steak was tender, cooked well with melted cheese on top & an au ju that was so flavorful it really made it come together. Mac & Cheese- comes to the table in a cast iron skillet. The cheese sauce is rich, creamy, cheesy and seasoned just right. Pasta is al dente and it's enough to share when you're sharing several things. We got only one drink each. I can't remember the name, something hawaiian. It had vanilla vodka, pineapple juice and mint leaves. It was good but too small for $9 & didn't do a thing to me. Very weak. I liked the place & I'd go back! read more

I've been past Black Bird many times, but never went in, because the outside was so nice I expected the food to be very expensive, but I was wrong. The food is very reasonably priced, and the drink menu is extensive, which I always appreciate. Everything was really good, and the service was quick. I learned upon entering that the place is, in fact, named for the Beatles song, which I was also wondering about before coming. They had draft beer for happy hours but I am soooo not a beer drinker . So I ordered a drink with stoking vodka lemonade and blue curacao . Man that drunk taste like pure lemonade with bum vodka in it. The price was 9 dollars for that crap . Needless to say I didn't order another . The wings were awesome . They taste just as good as the ones I get from my Tuesday spot Dillingers . Nice crispy and not fried too long . The sauce is what is needed for all buffalo wings in my opinion . I went here to dine in 3/24/21. The tables were spaced out and there was plexiglass in between a few of them as well. Every Wednesday they said it was cash only because they have wing & beer specials. The hostess and our server were both very nice and accommodating. Those wings! After doing a search I came across blackbirds winning an award for the best wings in Queens. My husband and I stopped by on a Friday night to give them a try. Cozy bar with lots of seating. We were escorted to a table in the back and ordered the spinach dip and buffalo wings to start. Both were out of this world! The spinach dip was just as I like it, thicker cheesier consistency. The wings were super crispy even while drenched in buffalo sauce. After that we ordered a burger and the fish tacos. I would have preferred the fish to be cut up then breaded, vs large filets of fried fish (made it harder to eat) but the flavors were totally there. The crowd was awesome, and the music was great.
