What an absolutely adorable family owned bakery near my new home! I stumbled across this gem when searching FB for a local bakery. Before they even answered by inquiry (which was fast) I was already on my way and snagged the last 2 cupcakes in their display! The cupcake was super moist and definitely tastes made from scratch like my great grandma used to make. Not too sweet and the size is just right when you don't need too much or want just something to satisfy your sweet tooth. The cabinet was filled with other yummy looking pastries as well. I also noticed home-made hot chocolate bombs- perfect for a gift for family and friends and other gifts that I would personally love! Stop in and definitely get something. All I can say is this is some of the best cake I've ever had! I went in and spoke with the ladies here at this establishment, and they were so nice, so friendly and so very helpful! I needed a birthday cake and they were so happy to accommodate me. If you are in this area and looking for some real authentic homemade cake this is the place to go! Sweetcakes is the best pastries on this end of Brunswick County. However, it is very unfortunate that the owners have closed the business to make more family time. I know these folks personally and they are the best!!!! I hate that they are closing but they deserve the best in life and deserve the family time!!! I stopped by Sweetcakes to get travel treats for our return trip home. They had a number of fresh baked items in the display case and they also do gorgeous (and cleverly executed) custom cakes. The owner was there and very friendly. The display case had 5-6 flavors of cake balls and we ordered several. The cake was the right amount of moistness without being "wet" and perfectly covered with yummy frosting. FYI, these travel well and won't make a mess in your car :-) There were also an assortment of scones, muffins, cookies, turnovers, etc. All looked yummy, generous in size, and were fairly priced. I hope they have success here, because OIB and SB need a genuine local bakery. We stopped in during off season to satisfy our sweet teeth. Selection was somewhat limited but we were just happy they were open. We picked up a few chocolate chip cookies, a few vanilla cupcakes, and a pumpkin cupcake. The cupcakes are HUGE. Moist cake. Somehow the icing is both rich and light. I'm not sure how that was accomplished but it's delightful. Husband says the cookies are good. Lol We'll definitely be back during the season. Edit: I had to edit this review after I ate the vanilla cupcake with the chocolate frosting. That is the best chocolate frosting I've ever had. Ever. I'll be visiting Oak Island in August. I'll be placing an order and driving to Ocean Isle for cupcakes and cookies. That frosting. Wow. Beverly and Company were excellent. I called without too much advance notice and they fit me in for my wife's 40th birthday party, in the middle of wedding season and other events. She made a very nice lemon cake with blueberry filling and buttercream icing. She suggested a beach theme decoration, which was amazing. Cake was excellent, slightly more dense than we make at home, but flavor was outstanding. Decorations,And interactions with the employees and owners were outstanding. Highly recommend it. read more

Definitely would recommend 100% the best cake we've had! We ordered a 3 layer cake with 3 different flavors and I could not believe that every single piece was gone by the end of the night. The cake was so delicious, it was not dry it was perfect, the fruit inside was amazing, and the icing was the cherry on top! A fantastic spot! My spouse and I decided to have a last minute wedding while at the beach. She researched several places and settled on Sweetcakes. We placed an order for 3 dozen cupcakes a week prior. She asked for a beach kind of theme and they were beyond fantastic! In addition, we had kept that this was for a same sex wedding to ourselves. No hype here. We had the cinnamon rolls, raspberry scones and cherry Danish. All were excellent. Fresh, airy, not too big, not too small. The cinnamon roll was just a touch too much sugar for my taste, but all other treats were pretty much perfect. The stand out for me and my family was the Raspberry/Orange Scone. Best we ever had!!!. Everything here is so good, I'm not sure where to start. I ordered The Carolina Spinach bread to have with homemade soup and it exceeded all our expectations so I'm anxious to try all the other new creations using the Spinach Bread recipe.
