Greenhouses are plentiful here and you can pick up some potted flowers for your home garden, as well as your own herbs and veggies! You can also pick up some good old groceries here, like meat or dairy products (fresh eggs and milk anyone?). If you're anything like me and my group of friends, we like to be photographed anywhere and everywhere so the flower greenhouse was the spot to be in. Call us obnoxious, because we are actually so obnoxious, but we also appreciate the beauty of local farms! The Vermont way of life values buying local goods and honestly, I don't mind living this small town lifestyle for a bit. Not forever though, as I'm a city boy through and through.

I emailed their landlord, which is the Hanover co-op and reported the issue. They said that it was the farmers market management who was responsible for maintaining the landscaping. The Norwich Farmers did not reimburse me or even respond to my emails with their insurance information. I was going to take them to court, but that would involve my insurance and I don't want my rates to go up. I used to be a customer for years as I live locally but due to their complete disregard for their customers, and horrible management I will never return. I can get what I need from the farms I buy from directly. If you value your car or drive an expensive car be aware.

As usual, I arrived with my clients, politely said hello and stated I was there to take photos by the Christmas trees. Christine (whom I had never met) said nothing about rules or purchase requirements and explicitly told me I could take photos. Afterward, my clients warmed up with their baby in the car and planned to cut a tree, but Christine assumed we weren't buying anything and escalated the situation for no reason. I left with my clients down the hill to take a few last shots and as I was getting into my car, Christine brought her husband Mike down in his truck to "scare me off". They flew past me, tried to block me from leaving the road, yelled at me to "never be seen on the property again," and accused me of "taking photos without buying anything" as if that were a crime. It was aggressive, threatening and completely unprofessional. This is a farm open to the public - visitors are NOT required to make a purchase just for stepping onto the property. If they have rules for photos, they can communicate them like adults instead of resorting to intimidation and theatrics. I won't be returning (for my own safety), and others should think twice before giving them business. If you do visit, apparently you'd better buy something immediately, since that seems to be their unspoken rule.

Before disappointment could set in the door swings open and Jill, the owner is standing there with a big grin saying : "You need to shop?". Everything was neatly put away which she opened right back up again- reassuring me to take my time. I wasn't the last late shopper that she allowed in but I'll bet I was the most grateful. I just want to say thank you for that act of kindness it went a long way in making our very unusual Easter a little greener.

I love that small town vibe. On this visit, I purchased tomatoes, onion, lemon cucumbers (yes, that is a thing and it's delicious), and whoopie pies. The ice cream was good too, I had the banana pie. They also had candy for sale. There were a couple of tables you can enjoy your ice cream at. Overall, another awesome farm market that is affordable and has high quality products.

The concept behind this farm is super sweet (ba dum tiss). What I mean by that is that there is a…read morelot of trust involved here, as they utilize a farm share system. Sort of like subscribing to those businesses that send you cool mystery packages, a farm share is where you pay to support the farm and in return you get a share of the farm's harvest, whatever they end up harvesting. You will need to pick it up yourself of course. Jules invited me to tag along with her to pick up the farm share harvest for the week. No one was really there to monitor everything that day (we were actually the only ones present at the moment). The farm people just left the harvested goods there in a barn and you sign off on the list that you picked up your share! This time around we got scallions, kale, and scallions. There is even a barter box where you can leave behind items you do not want and in return, you can take any items that you want.

And Sweetland is the first place that came to mind. This place is working super hard to bring local, nutritious meats and produce to the community. On top of that, they do everything they can to actually build that community and it's resilience. In normal years, their CSA pickup and you pick crops for members are a really awesome way to meet and visit with neighbors, and they also host a variety of awesome events and let you wander around the beautiful farm. Chris and Norah and the crew are also really kind and welcoming. This year, despite being crazy busy filling their sold out CSA shares, they also put lots of time and effort into starting a grocery pick up service for community members to be able to get food safely. I worked with them on this project, and was amazed by how hard working, caring, and innovative they are. They really cared about their team, other local farmers, and their community. It's very inspiring to be around them.
