Some of the best tacos in town! This place has a cool, beachy vibe going on. Their taco and burrito selection is incredible! I honestly think the best part of the meal was the chips and green salsa that come out at first: The green salsa is so fresh and flavorful, literally the absolute best green salsa I've ever had! I had the carnitas and papas tacos on corn tortillas and they were excellent! Both were made gluten and dairy free. The carnitas pork meat was so tender, and I loved their pickled red onions! The only thing that made me nervous was that our waitress took our order without writing it down (we were a group of 5 and ordered a ton of tacos). Miraculously she got the whole order correct, but please write everything down in the future to make us less nervous!! Come early, or be prepared for a wait. Drinks and vibes are a 4 but the tacos are as average as you can get. Got the Three Amigos Tacos and the carne asada literally had nothing on it. Chicken and fish were average. Service is eh. I probably have reviewed this before but we came back to give this place a second shot and I still can't understand the hype. Drinks are great but the food is straight up not good. Their takeout situation is an absolute disaster, no order or process. Just a line of people waiting to ask if theirs is ready. They need a text system to notify if it is ready so 20 people aren't waiting in line for their order that's now sitting there for 20 minutes. My salad was inedible, soaked from the pico, maybe 10 black beans total on the salad. Soaked without dressing, as I got it on the side. I took two bites, pulled the chicken off and threw the salad in the garbage. If you're this "popular" you need to get with the times of text systems when your food or table is ready. We arrived at 1:30 and the hostess said it would be a 20 minute wait. She took down our phone number and called us 35 min later. The waitress promptly came to our table and informed us that the menu was online and to scan the QR code. We ordered a beer, swell margarita, loaded nachos, chicken quesadilla, crunch and munch taco and ground beef taco. The portions were generous and very filling. The margarita was one of the best I've ever had. The waitress was attentive throughout the meal. My only complaint was the bees flying around outside but that is no fault of the restaurants being that they had bee traps around. Great and prompt service. Getting to the actual restaurant was a bit of a challenge as the address points to a Main Street but the restaurant is situated in the parking lot. Guacamole was great. Tortilla chips weren't fresh and tasted stale. I ordered the fish tacos which was delicious. I also order the potato taco which was good but had too much potato in it. Swell Taco is just, well, Swell. This is one of my favorite places in the village. When you come here, you feel like family. It's a cozy and welcoming environment. It's off the beaten path of the village, but if you are walking by on Deer Park Ave, you'll see the sign right before Fitness Incentive. As you have probably read from other reviews, they have their "Taco Tuesday", which for $1/taco, can't be beat. There are three tacos in the deal to choose from, but I always go "Buffalo Soldier". My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the salad. It's one of my favorite salads anywhere, really. I get it with the buffalo chicken - doesn't need dressing with this chicken. The combo of the fresh black beans, cheese, lettuce and crispy shell hits the spot every time. Especially when washed down with a nice (jalapeño margarita). Though they only had this for Halloween, if you give James (my fav person at S.W.) a wink and a nod, maybe he'll make this up for you too. So delicious, bet you can't have just one. Hummm... I wasn't blown away. Wasn't even mildly impressed. Went here for lunch on Cinco de Mayo with a couple friends. After reading Yelp reviews I was stoked and pretty much knew what I wanted to order the night before! My order: The special fish taco (think it was called an El Camino). The waiter recommend these over the fish tacos off the menu. I also got the flautas. The one minuscule strip of fish in the taco was dry and there really wasn't any flavor. The flautas were just fried tubes filled with cheese. There was supposed to be chicken too, but I couldn't find any. The chipotle cream dipping sauce wasn't flavorful at all, just sour cream. Big whoop. I do not like hot/spicy foods but I do like spicy/flavorful. This was neither. Friend #1 ordered the chicken quesadilla and a pork taco. The chicken in the "chicken quesadilla" was undetectable and the pork taco wasn't thrilling. We also thought it was odd to not have sour cream or salsa to dip the 'dilla in. She didn't realize it didn't come with any or else we would've ordered it on the side, but by the time our food came we were in a rush to eat and hit the road. Friend #2 ordered two fish tacos and thought the same thing I did: that the microscopic fish was dry and there was no flavor. The highlight of our meal were the complimentary chips and salsa verde -- that was a hit with all of us. I gave them 3 stars because the vibe and outdoorsy dining was nice (even tho there's really no view except for the parking lot. Hence no people watching). The servers were friendly and the burritos looked good, maybe we would've been better off with one of those. It was a 35 minute drive when I have Salsa Salsa less than 10 minutes from me. One of the most perfect Mexican joints I've ever been to. Hubby and I decided to come here Saturday night. We were afraid we would't get a table because his brother kept telling us how popular this place is and how it gets really crowded, but just our luck when we arrived there was one free table for us to sit down at. The atmosphere is relaxed, hip, classy and casual. The decor presents a beachy surfing theme. The tables are nice, they are strategically placed far enough apart that you are not sitting on top of fellow diners. They have some back doors that I presume open during the warmer summer months. I had the hippy burrito and I split a cheese quesidilla with hubby for an app. This place is right on! I notice sometimes with eating Mexican there are certain places where you might get a divine quesidilla but a terrible burrito, this place made both perfect and interesting. The burritos were big but not super ginormous like Green Cactus. The chips were very natural tasting, they were perfectly crisp but not very salty, the green salsa they served the chips with complimented them perfectly. I would come back here! GAH I love this place so much! We make our way over to Swell at least once a week, maybe more if it's been a rough week. Staff is awesome, ambience is chill, and food...come on, it's tacos. If you mess up tacos, you're doing something wrong. Taco Tuesdays is a must. You can't go wrong with $1 buffalo and beef tacos. There is a bit of a wait, but if you order to go it's usually no more than 15-20 minutes. If you so choose to wait for a table, that's a different story. You've been warned. Regardless, it's worth the wait. The tacos are unique, fresh, and creative. They offer a variety of options, such as crispy chicken tacos (offered on Mondays and Thursdays only), shrimp tacos which have a bit of a kick to them, and papas tacos for the vegetarians out there. They also offer great apps, soups, burritos, and other delicious creations. And complimentary chips and salsa (salsa verde YUM) Also, if you're one of the lucky ones that is able to make it out to happy hour, check them out. Now, me and my date waited at the host stand for no lie 5mins AT LEAST with what felt like just about every employee walkin by throwing menus on the host stand. And not one greeted us.. now I understand it's busy and any FOH staff may be weeded..but it takes no time to say "someone will be right with you" .. half of them even made eye contact. Then when someone finally acknowledged us...45 min wait. All I could think was "well damn can we minus the 10 mins I already been standing here" lol BUT At the end of the day we finally got to get in and got sat. And the real measure of how I would feel about swell would be the food.. We got the chix fluatas which were on pointt. Deff should've ordered the larger portion. I went here after a long beach day with my girlfriends. There was a 15 minute wait, and then we were seated. Our server was super kind and quick with service. She gave us a complementary basket of chips and green salsa which was delicious. It was a very cilantro and garlic filled sauce and we even asked for another bowl of the sauce. I got two Carne Asada tacos and one grilled chicken taco. The carne Asada tacos were really good, they had a Caribbean pepper sauce at the table that really give it a nice kick. The grilled chicken taco was OK, the meat was cut into very large chunks which was unappealing and had a yellow tint. The margaritas were good, I definitely would recommend the house margarita. For dessert, we ordered the basket of churros. They tasted like a day old churro that was placed in the air fryer (very crispy and hard) and did not come with any dip. I wouldn't recommend them. The prices are fair, you can't beat a $10 margarita and tacos that cost four dollars. Just be mindful: you get what you paid for. We started out with the loaded nachos then we got the Buffalo chicken taco, shrimp taco, carne asada taco and the shredded chicken taco. Everything came out quick hot and delicious. The Buffalo taco was out of this world as was everything else. The staff was friendly and the waitress kept coming by to check on us. I also tried the rum punch... wow that drink was good too! So somehow I've lived in the Babylon area my entire life, and besides takeout once, had never been to Swell Taco (despite how many people have told me I should). I know I know, but I got there eventually. Atmosphere: The place is small (although they expanded it apparently) so we had a little bit of a wait (about 45 minutes, but for 7pm in Babylon, no problem by me). The place has a really fun surfer vibe and it feels so relaxed. I think my only complaint is the place is just a smidge too loud, making it hard to hear the people you're with. But that's really splitting hairs. Food/Drinks: This is where they kill it. They start you out with chips and salsa verde which is completely addictive. I ordered the jalapeno margarita and my friend got the berry margarita and they were amazing. I would order the jalapeno one every time I go back. I ordered the papas taco and the crunch & munch taco which were both delicious. And for the two of us the bill came to $35 for food and drinks. Can't complain about that. Most likely because they are super busy and are getting to other tables which is totally fine! But we had a difficult time reaching our server and had to keep asking another server questions. I was visiting a neighboring store so decided to stop in to grab some tacos to go as I remember a friend recommending them a while back. I ordered the 3 amigos plus a shrimp taco. So in total I had shredded chicken, steak, fish & shrimp. Sadly I was not at all thrilled about the tacos I ordered. They didn't have much taste and if I were blindfolded I wouldn't have been able to tell you which taco I was eating. Needless to say I won't be going back there any time soon. I've been eating at Swell Taco for years, since they were a hidden little gem in Babylon Village tucked away next to a gym. Their food has always been incredible! Highly recommended their chicken flautas, coco mahi tacos, and our personal favorite, the el camino. Their quality is unmatched and the menu has plenty of options without being overwhelming. My one gripe with them has always been their take-out system. They never can seem to get hold on an accurate time frame to pick up. All the way back to when they were that small shop to now that they've expanded to a much larger location they simply can't get the timeframes right. Definitely an off day, and don't come on a Tuesday, I guess they can't handle it. Me and my friend sat down at 3:10pm, we ordered two margaritas from our "waiter" with tattoos all over him, I don't know his name so that's the best way to describe him. The pulled pork nachos were good. Then, after the nachos came out, we never saw him again, until probably a little after 4:00 when he was behind the bar talking to customers. But it's now 4:47, we just got our food, they forgot my friends taco, they put beans in her salad bowl when she told our waiter no beans. She ate the taco and her bowl came out. She asked for a fork and waited probably about 4-5minutes for a fork so now her salad bowl with chicken is cold. We got a new waitress who said, and I quote "the kitchen fucked up and put your food to go". Then after they messed up my friends order, her next excuse was "it was because of a shift change". I was on my way back to the city from a day at the beach when I found this place on Yelp - I'm so happy I did because they have a customer for life in me after finding them! First thing that was really awesome about this place is their prices. You bang for you $ is unbeatable here - my girlfriend and I shared an app and got our own entre and paid less than $50 (with tip)! We got delicious burritos and some nachos....we enjoyed both. Really not sure how it has such good ratings but all the anestesia I had in my lips today didn't stop me from tasting the saltiest tacos and nachos in the world, so much salt in the pulled pork I felt my feet swell, guess they don't call it swell taco for nothing. I always devour my food or at least finish half, first time I took a bite of my four tacos and couldn't bare to finish the rest didn't even want to take it home to the dogs nasty. The tacos are all bland, overly salty and dry no sour cream or anything. Honestly I've had rather went to Taco Bell for better quality of food. The tacos are similar except Taco Bell is better.
