This place is awesome. Be nice and respectful and enjoy the owner singing along with his music and it's a blast. Sense of humor required. It's a must stop for anyone who lived in the 60s or 70s and doesn't have a stick up their butt. Used to be a mandatory stop on any and every Saugatuck trip but now has become comparable to a boring booth at the Blue Star antique mall. Last time we walked through the store we couldn't believe how much junk was being sold instead of their usual collectibles and cool toys. We started to walk out of the store after not buying anything and were literally scoffed at by the owner who used to be a great guy to talk to, we used to buy a bunch of stuff and talk to him for like 15 minutes. The place is a mess, just a bunch of junk. The guy running it is a jerk. Wouldn't let me take a picture of something even though I had bought 2 small overpriced items. Barely spoke to us while we rang out, only did to yell at me about taking a photo. Will never give him my business again! read more

This store looked fun from the outside. However, the abundance of rules posted throughout the store made me anxious. I then realized that it was more fun to count the amount of warning signs than it was to peruse the generic, kitschy merchandise. Used to go every year I made the trip from Lansing MI. Always made several buys. Have spent hundreds there over the years. Went there this year 10 min. before closing and they said sorry need to come back and they were putting items in isles and closing for they day. I told maybe next year? Thought the guy was rude and very unappreciative for all my buys in the past. Maybe the last time I visit Swell Times. Not so SWELL anymore! read more

What happened to you swell times? The last time I went here there was nothing but junk on the shelves, like a bad flea market. I eventually found a pretty neat looking silver robot coin bank and decided to grab it. It was behind one of the counters so the employee had to fetch it for me. He kinda gave me a once over turn it around in front of me to make sure I wanted to buy it and I decided to go for it. He wrapped it up and placed it in a bag all ready to go. I wish wish wish that I had actually touched it and looked at it myself before I bought it because when I got it home and unwrapped it I saw...... a TARGET sticker on the bottom of it! What was being touted as a vintage robot bank was actually from TARGET! I have never been more disappointed in a person before I dealt with this slight of hand magician man in charge of taking advantage of unsuspecting dweebs like me! He should be ashamed of himself and his shady business practices. read more

I LOVE this store! My husband and I have been going to Saugatuck for years and visited this store when it was first opened. When we came back the next year and found out it was closed, we were SO disappointed! When we drove in last year and saw it was open again, we were both very excited. It's just as it used to be, fun, weird and full of unique gift ideas!!!! Yes, the store does have a rule posted about asking for the price of the lunch boxes. We asked the owner about this, and he explained that it was because so many people had come in to compare the ones they have at home to find out how much theirs are worth. I understand how that would get annoying. Anyway, this store has a lot of vintage and odd items that are hard to find, DO NOT miss going here!!!!! read more

Half vintage-half nostalgic pop culture memorabilia... and it's very small... like more than five people in the store feels like it's crowded small. Lots of lunch boxes and thermoses from the 80s (plastic pop culture ones) and some vintage lighting fixtures (though the one I liked had WAY too modern of a shade on it). read more

We were just up at Saugatuck two days ago. Bought several things at this outstanding store. I wish I had more money to buy even more items! The things in the store are hilarious!!! Good place to shop for gifts. The gentleman that waited on us, (I would assume was the owner), made it a fun place to shop. We hit this store every time we visit.
