I think I might have been here once when I lived in West Ridge a mile away. They have facilities for baseball, basketball, and soccer, as well as a 9-hole golf course (waaaaay on the northeast side of the park, at the corner of Pratt and Ridge), and tennis courts that double as pickleball courts. There's a path that runs through the park as well so you can walk or job, but I also saw people riding bikes on it when I was here. In wintertime, they have an ice rink. You can play cricket here, racquetball, and there are three playgrounds. The field house is large too. There's a gymnasium and the Northtown Garden Society operates out of here. I was surprised to see the garden club because I had been curious if there was one around here but couldn't find one. I'm sure one of if not their major project is the maintenance of the Warren Park community garden, which is between Western Avenue and the field house. Near the field house, on its south side, is a work of public art that doubles as a place to sit and take a load off. The history of Warren Park is a particularly interesting one and combines the politics of Chicago. The land was once the Edgewater Golf Course, a privately owned course. It was purchased and the community soon learned that the developers wanted to put a high rise and shopping center here. It was indeed re-zoned by the city when community efforts failed, and those groups (called the Allied North Side Community Organizations) appealed to the governor, who signed legislation making it a state park to preserve the open land, calling it the "first major state park in Illinois created in an urban area". The state only purchased about a third of it, though, and the remaining land was still undergoing development, much to the dismay of the surrounding community. Is the end, the Chicago Park District chose to condemn it and turn it into parkland, and the state transferred its property to the city. This park as a very large parking lot, which is good since there are so many activities here. There are bathroom facilities inside the field house as well. The field house and playgrounds are accessible, and depending upon one's accessibility needs other areas of the park may be as well.

Has lots of nature to come across. There's a few parks along it and other fun things. A lot less crowded on this trail and it's still got pretty good views along it. It's about 7 miles from the beginning to end, so that's a good way to work out. This begins at the intersection of Francisco and Lawrence in Ravenswood. First it goes north through River Park. There's trails on both sides of the channel most of the time. It goes all the way to Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard in Evanston. The trail is made of variously of asphalt, gravel, and crushed limestone. Has to be one of the less appreciated trails around here. It's not as popular as the one by the lake to be sure. There's plenty of parks along the way so these make for good places to stop for bicyclists, runners, or whoever.

OK, that might not be true but it at least hits Wilmette. Regardless, it's an absolutely wonderful surprise. You can pick it up on the north side of Lawrence between Sacramento and California. It takes you along the east side of the channel, through parks and under cross streets until almost Devon. There you jog northwest on Lincoln to re pick it up on the west side. You follow McCormick through Lincolnwood and Skokie with trees and sculpture and happily few people to keep you company. It's a great little ride. Maybe 10-12 miles round trip with all the twists and turns. I also love that I've seen none of the super serious jackwads with their full body spandex and forward triathlon bars going 35 miles an hour and looking at you like you're in the way if you ride casually. There are a few other cyclists and walkers. At the lots along McCormick folks clearly park and walk to the many benches to eat lunch on nice days. But even on a beautiful weekday in the low 80's with little wind I was alone with my thoughts and camera most of the time. There are port-a-potties at one of the lots near the midway point but once across Lincoln there aren't water fountains like there are in the city parks. If you really need hydration you can always jump off the path, back into real life just a few hundred yards away, and grab something to drink. Make sure you to remember to press the pedestrian button at intersections once out of the city or you'll never get across. Also even though it's a lot of fun don't accelerate through the downhill blind turns as you hit the under passes. There are lots of strollers and moms with kids in tow. Save those collisions for the d-bags on lakefront path.

Before I started participating in mail-in voting, I always popped into this location. I remembered it because the participatory budgeting was held here too. But somebody is going nuts with stealing from our nearest mailbox, so the Board of Elections getting this ward's mail-in ballots may be a lost cause. Although this park nor the board of elections can control a mail thief, they can control early voting locations. As a former election judge, key judge and cell phone judge, I know how much location matters to get people to vote. And I can't for the life of me understand why this isn't still one of the voting locations. It was easy to get to; roomy; has a dog park and an Amazon locker pickup; is in a spacious and family-friendly area; and even has been a place for day campers. I saw a field full of school desks and tables, so I'm guessing they were having summer school or some kind of very studious summer game. White (Willye B.) Park does not compare to this location. My ballot got lost in the mail (or the mail thief is at it again), so I have to return there for early voting. But I really wish THIS location was open again. It's even close to major grocery stores (Jewel) and convenience stores (Walgreens). I cannot think of a more convenient location to vote! Bring early voting back here again. I miss it.
