Courts are in 20-minute increments and if another group is waiting, you might have to rotate out once your time is up. At first I thought it was kind of weird, but it actually keeps things moving and gives everyone a chance to play. The place itself is clean and well maintained, and overall the pricing is really reasonable for what you get. Definitely a solid spot if you're trying to do something active with friends without spending too much. I'd come back!

Yes, the facilities are clean and pretty spacious, but I think the machines are really limited. For example, there are a limited number of cardio machines, and they fill up really quickly if you go at peak hours. The weight/stretching area is also pretty small and can get packed fast. I've tried one of the free classes (yoga), and maybe it's because I am admittedly a bit of a yoga snob, but it was way too easy and barely a workout. I'll be sticking to LA fitness for now (even though SPAC is free for me).

Tons of passed appetizers, including ham & cheese mini-sammies, french toast bites, cheddar scones, and more! Not being a Bloody Mary fan myself (I know, I know, blasephemy!) there was still PLENTY of other options, including Truly, spiked sparkling water; Angry Orchard, hard apple cider; and plenty of mimosas! The fest had tons of food and drinks, the voting was easy with multiple tablets set up by the stage, and the vibe was super laid back and casual, making for the perfect Sunday. We had a blast. Fitz-Hume!! Do you…read moreremember that scene in Spies Like Us when Emmett Fitz-Hume (Chevy Chase) and Austin Milbarge (Dan Akroyd) attempt to pass themselves off as doctors? And then, of course, a patient needing an emergency appendectomy arrives, and Fitz-Hume and Milbarge go to work with their scalpel, having no clue what to do, all the while slowly inching it in different directions as they get confirmation from the actual doctors... The softball umpires for Chicago Sport & Social Club must have studied this clip from the movie repeatedly because they've performed analogous actions during games on multiple occasions. I was playing in a game earlier this week, and a woman on the other team steps up to the plate. She grazes the ball with her bat, and the ball drops about two feet in front of home plate. She releases her bat as she runs to first, and the bat drops about one foot in front of home plate. Meanwhile, the ball slowly rolls backward, and then stops at the bat which is still in fair territory. The umpire just stares at the ball dumbfoundedly for several seconds, entirely unsure of what to do. From shortstop, I finally yell, "That's out of play." The umpire then looks up and triumphantly shouts, "Foul ball!" (While not technically correct, I figured arguing this minor detail would be moot since the outcome was the same.) Unfortunately, this example is just one of many blunders repeatedly made by CSSC's umpire crew. This is the second season I've played with CSSC, and the officiating has been atrocious nearly every game. I'm convinced it is run by some dude who knew someone at the Chicago Park District, got a license for sporting events, and then hired all of his college bros to ump games. I'm certainly no expert, but it amazes me that a sports club doesn't know jack about ASA rules. It would be one thing if they simply made up their own rules--and in fact, they do--as the games are being played, but even within those made-up rules, there's absolutely no consistency. You have no idea what is going to happen from game to game. I could bore you with several more examples, but then you might think I'm just some overly competitive jerkface. I'm not. I just find it obnoxious when umps give various teams (and even sometimes my own team) significant advantages because they don't even know the rules of their own league. I can't speak to how other sports leagues or social events are handled by CSSC, but I can say with experience, that the other two major sports clubs in the city know how to officiate softball correctly. The only reason I don't play in one of those leagues is because my company pays for the league I'm currently playing in. I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm certainly not shy about trashing it on the internet. P.S. There are no restrooms near the softball diamond I play on, so I just pee in the bushes. If you're in Grant Park, don't have a picnic near any bushes.

I'm not surprised to be the first one to review this place, but it seems that many people knew…read moreabout this park already, and have not told me. Which I can understand why. This place is deep in a neighborhood where you can't hear the cars, trucks or buses going by. The play ground for kids is impressive for a public park. The two tennis courts are nicely done and looks like there well managed. The basketball court is full, slightly not leveled, barely noticeable, though on the other hand the rims are single at least, not double like other outdoor courts, with two other rims on the side of the court. Wildwood Park also contains a senior and two junior baseball fields, a softball field, a football field, a horseshoe pit, and a spray pool. This is going to be one of the park I will consistently go now, since it seems the park districts are taking down one rim in each basketball court to extinguish full court play, how sad, this is why America is getting fat. Anyhow, this park is really nice to bring the little ones since I seen many other adults bring their kids, in what seems to be a nice, safe environment.

The members I've met are so kind and hospitable. They feed us well (during bonspiels), the bar staff is great, and the ice is top notch! My husband played in one of the open bonspiels last year and had a great time as well. As someone who plays on arena ice I am so envious of what a great facility they have. The viewing area accommodates a lot of people, the tables are spaced out enough that it doesn't feel too cramped, there always seems to be napping happening over by the fireplace, and the little museum room has a lot of fun history of curling. Wonderful club, wonderful people, wonderful ice! I love this club!!

And this last time (2018), was a banner year, with the US Men's Team winning gold for the first time ever. Woo hoo! But curling has been a great sport for a long, long time. And the Chicago Curling Club has been a big part of that here in the mid-west for like 150 years or so. Let's talk about why. Well, first, the CCC is a great group of folks. The mid-west is renowned for being friendly and polite, right? Well, the folks at the CCC are that times 2. Super friendly and ready, willing and able to not only teach you about the sport of curling, but just as happy to talk about whatever else is on your mind, all while buying you a beer. Seriously, I have yet to find a nicer bunch of folks anywhere in the country. Then, there is curling itself. Yeah, there are some competitive folks (hell, you can;t go to the olympics, much less win, without being competitive, right?). But there are a TON of leagues at the club that are purely for fun. Rookies, pick-up and other leagues that even the newest of newbies can join and have fun at. Add to all of that the social aspect. Multiple FREE events throughout the year, just for socializing and community. This is the kind of place that literally anyone can feel at home. Finally there is the sport of curling itself. Look, I like to veg out as much as the next guy. But this is damn near the only sport I could play, for fun or competitively, where I can literally have a beer while I play. Bad knees? No problem. Need hyper cardio? Got ya covered. Just want to play for fun and socialize? Check. Want to belong to a group that has fun and contributes to the community? You could do way worse! The CCC is a great group of folks, with a great facility, and perpetuating a great sport, all while contributing to the community at large. Swing by, have a beer, and learn to curl. I guarantee you'll have a great time, and you just might change your life.
