If you can't get a good spot at Skipping Girl just wander across the road to this place. They have…read morea hot menu which contains things like bacon and eggs for breakfast etc. Otherwise choose from the cold cabinet including things like pies rolls quiches etc. The sweets cabinet was pretty good with homemade cakes and slices. A great range of gourmet cold drinks and a cool fresh juices menu. Inside was a bit noisy due to the coffee machine. The area doesn't seat many, perhaps 15 or so and a few more tables outside. Car parking in the streets around this block. The cakes and my yoghurt was quite nice and the juice was excellent but the bacon and egg pie a little bit chewy.

I always manage to make my way to Bakers Delight for a quick pick up of bread for the week,…read morehowever, on my errand fuelled days, I never found enough time to stop by Graceville Fine Foods Deli Cafe, until recently. I came here for a coffee and cake, with no real intention of staying for long. I exchanged 'hellos' with the lovely ladies who work there and sat down. It is a cosy little cafe filled with warm hues of brown and modern pieces of furniture. I loved it. It felt inviting and relaxing to just sit there, enjoy a coffee and read a book. As I mentioned, I had no intention of staying too long, but luckily, I carry a book with me, so when the mood strikes, as it did then, I indulged in some reading to compliment my coffee and cake. What an enjoyable afternoon that was. The waitstaff were very nice and had great customer service skills. They are a good balance of chatty and professional. There was no rush of getting me out the door, I felt safe and they didn't seem to mind one bit. As I sipped the last of my second coffee, I realised almost an hour has gone by. It's been a while since I've sat in a cafe reading and I'm glad to report, this cafe makes for a good place to get back into it.

There are lots of great gift ideas including a specials table located at the back. And a great place to visit before a long weekend.

I popped in recently in search of some quirky ingredients for a recipe I've wanted to try and walked out with way more than what I needed. They stock beautiful oils, pastas, meats, cheeses, pate, caviar and foreign food items that you could never find in a regular grocery store. I also have friends who have taken classes in their cooking school and have raved about it! They hold specialty classes with industry professionals in things like chocolate making, cheese making and baking as well as cuisine specific classes in making the most out of your BBQ and cooking Thai cuisine at home. I'm surprised that more people don't know about Black Pearl, especially considering Brisbane has an up and coming food culture. If you love to cook, eat or learn than I suggest you pop in to Black Pearl Epicure for a drool worthy browse sometime soon.

I've made a few trips to Penny, some just for coffee (takeaway and sit down) and a few with food…read more Across the board, Penny is outstanding in terms of Brisbane's cafe scene. The baristas are exceptionally skilled, and there is a selection of roasts to choose from. While I normally like my coffee black, something that isn't too hard to make, I've had a few flat whites from Penny which have been excellent. A friend of mine asked if they're able to pull a piccolo using soy milk, without the milk splitting. Despite indicating that the barista don't need to try if they haven't made one before, they produced one (after two failed attempts) by slowly adjusting the extraction to the point where they could add a shot to soy milk without producing soy cheese. Doing this despite explicitly not needing to is the sort of above and beyond that earns long-term customers. The food is similarly stellar. The avo on sourdough may at first blush seem like a pricier version of what everyone else is doing. The flavours in Penny's version are, however, inventive and balanced to a point I haven't had elsewhere. There's a nice balance between the feta, dukkah and pomegranate where you can taste all of them without one overpowering the other. The vegetabowl is similarly great. There's just enough of each ingredient that you can taste them, without the dish being overpowered by one note. Penny's interior makes maximal use of the space. There are comfortably sized tables out front and inside, and some bar seating by the espresso machine. The best seats in the house, though, are out back, and include a few longer tables. The staff at Penny are attentive, friendly and great at pulling a coffee and making food.
