Dr. DuBois is very knowledgeable, kind, and attuned to the patient. I first went to his office in a lot of pain from a spine condition diagnosed several years ago. I had become used to a level of constant discomfort, so much that it was my "normal." I went to Dr. D after a flare up, when the pain had become intense and hard to tolerate. I can honestly say that after treatment over several weeks (always tailored to where I was in the process of healing) and spending time daily with the prescribed exercises, I am no longer living with the expectation that pain is just something I had to accept. I've been treated by Dr. DuBois for many years now. I had seen a different chiropractor since I was in my early 30s, but she was out of town when I injured my lower back doing deep squats at my gym. I came to Dr. Dubois after my Pilates instructor recommended his help with my ongoing back pain stemming from a series of issues (degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, stenosis, etc.) Everyone at the practice was welcoming, attentive, and listened to what my symptoms were. In a few short sessions, I felt immediate relief from my pain, and felt armed with knowledge via Dr. Dubois on what was actually going on with my back + ongoing pain (something I haven't always been able to confidently say after leaving the Spine Center at Duke.) I listened to the advice of Dr. Dubois regarding activity, came to my regular sessions, and after roughly a month of rest + care, felt better than I had in ages. While I hope to be clear of his clinic for some time, I am glad to know I now have helpful place to turn to whenever my symptoms arise once again. Horrible experience. I was in a car accident and made an appointment for my spouse and I to come in. Our very experienced lawyer told that all we needed was the insurance information, claim #, etc. We have plenty of friends who have been in accidents. This is how it works. The secretary is named *****. She called us over and over and over again to keep reminding us of our appointments. I never seen anything like that before. Imagine if every time you had a dental appt, or a hair cut appt, or an appt to get an oil change if the secretary kept calling you repeatedly to remind you, as if you were an idiot? When we did not return her 500th phone call she actually left a message saying it was okay if we were not coming in, that we could reschedule, but that we needed to call her back to confirm that we were not coming! The first appt came and I showed up 15 minutes early. ***** spent 10-15 minutes gossiping about her wardrobe with another patient before getting to me. When she finally gave me the paperwork she rushed me, saying I was late and the Dr was waiting. When the paperwork was all done she took me to get weighed and to get my height. Well, to my surprise she told me I was 5'4 and 156 lbs! Ummm. Guess what? I am not. She was off by about 3 inches and she 20 lbs! The Dr was okay. No problems there. But after that ***** interrogated me and demanded my insurance info. I told her I had no insurance and she told me I had to pay with cash or credit card or I could not leave! I told her that all she needed was the car insurance info and the claim number. She told me they don't work that way. She insisted that I pay with my personal funds. I then called my lawyer and she asked me who he was. When I told her she said she never heard of him and they don't work with lawyers they don't know. What? I told her I was new in town and my lawyer was out-of-state, and that I've known him for 30 years. I was then told by her and the Dr that they don't work with out-of-town lawyers because they are afraid they won't get paid!!! Huh? I reminded that that even if that did happen (and it wouldn't) that I signed paperwork saying that I would be responsible for the bills. They did not care. They demanded that I pay. At this point, in my opinion, ***** was acting so peculiar that I was actually in fear for my personal safety. So I took out my credit card and she told me they don't accept American Express! Seriously. I told her that was all I had and she accused me of being verbally abusive to her. Wow. I had to get out of their quick. I told her to take my Amex card info and we would resolve this on Tuesday when another lady would be there who handles the billing. She then handed me a receipt for my Amex Card for $155. She assured me it would not go through. I wrote on the receipt DO NOT CHARGE just to make sure they would not charge it. Well, guess what they did???? There are plenty of other chiropractors in Chapel Hill. It is my personal opinion that you may want to find one who will accept the same insurance info that all others do, that won't demand that you pay with your own funds, that accepts American Express, and has a secretary that does not seem (in my personal opinion) to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Think about how many thousands of dollars they lost because of her behavior, and their bizarre belief that out-of-state lawyers won't pay them. Who thinks like this? You can do better. read more
