Park kinda has it all. Bathrooms are a small hike but the park itself is very nice. Basketball, swings, baseball field and more

Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut. It spans 5,420 acres, 11 miles long, 2 miles…read morewide, 65 miles of shoreline, depth up to 90 feet, and has 12 islands. It also borders five towns: Danbury, New Milford, Brookfield, Sherman, and New Fairfield. This is a very popular place for all kinds of water sports, and bass and trout fishing. There are two state boat launches and many marinas for docking. The shoreline has so many magnificent homes, and don't be surprised if you see a seaplane landing or taking off on the lake. This lake usually gets very busy on the weekends in the summer.

Launch at Lattin's Cove was solid jammed and the number of rude idiots just simply ASTOUNDING. No courtesy for other boaters/pwc's whatsoever. Couple of morons were camped out on the dock and screwed up everyone else's put in/take out routine. No surprise to see the NJ and NY registrations on their PWCs. While coming back in, 3 idiots on PWC's came screaming past us in the no wake zone to "beat" us to the ramp, then they sat there blocking one side of the launch. One fellow asked nicely if they could move over just a bit so he could launch his pwc and he got snapped at by one of the tattoo queens... "we're leaving in a couple of minutes". Definitely will not go back here on a weekend anytime soon. Very sad because it never used to be like this.

We got on the trail at the Brewster Trail head, which is located at Castle Park in Brewster. There is a small parking area for the trail right near the entrance. The trail is nice and wide and runs alongside a disused rail line (the Maywood line, which gave the trail it's name) and for part of it, you can see in-use Metro North lines on the other side. We went north from Tonetta Lake and enjoyed the quiet and the scenery. It's very peaceful. There are large sections where there is no shade, so in the summer it could get hot so make sure you bring a hat, wear sunscreen and have some water with you so you don't roast. I love having trails like this nearby, especially a nice new trail like this. The only thing that would make it better would be if it could actually connect directly to the Putnam Trail once it hits the heart of Brewster.

This is a wonderful addition for the Empire State Trail, with the expansion of the Dutchess Rail…read moreTrail from Hopewell to Brewster with someday connecting with the Putnam and Westchester Trail. The Maybrook Trailway should honestly be given the whole name from this point until New Paltz as it completes the connection. The trail runs aside a train track for which was once used for the Maybrook Line and Beacon Line for you history geeks like me. We started from the Hopewell end and walked for a couple of miles until we tire out. Two other times, we started another point in Stormville and walked west for about 2 miles. I know pretty much the whole line including the scenery along the way, it's quiet, and not a lot of action to be seen around. For those who enjoy peace and quiet, here you go. From what I've seen on the map, there are limited parking spaces for each trail spot at crossings. I'm hoping something would be addressed about that and even with bathrooms. There's more to explore on this trail.

I seriously adore this island…read more Small parking area off the main road and its legit in such a random spot that it gets very little traffic which i really appreciate. You walk along the inlet and up a hill, eventually you will on top of the 'mountain' that is also the metro north train tunnel. You can go around one of the fences and sit directly above the tunnel but we aware-- there is no additional fence before the drop. And if you drop..well, um. You dead. But otherwise its super cool to watch the train approach and feel it rumble underneath you. Going along a little further up the trail you will come to an outcropping of an old foundation and what is left of a fireplace and chimney. I believe this was one of the guest houses or the daughter homes belonging to the McAndrew's estate that is directly opposite the island. (That is another great hike with lots of ruins including an old race track, ice house and some old foundations.) Eventually you will start downhill and get to the waterfront which is gorgeous and has a great view of Haverstraw. It's a rocky area but can be traversed with slight caution, in order to skip rocks or fish or even hang out in the water. There's a beat up picnic table or two and some benches around in case you feel like packing a picnic. Please be sure to pick up after yourself though and keep the preserve clean for all! Cans are usually by the exit. No bathrooms either so be one with the call of nature.
