I used their services for my son so he could take a test. We had schedule our test for 4:30 in the afternoon. They called us early and invited us in early, because they had some openings. When we arrived, we check in right away and were helped to the testing station. Once they went over the security for the test, they took my son right into the room and he went right to work. It was easy, the people were friendly and it was a very positive environment. I observed lots of students in their tutoring center, all of whom were working hard and were engaged I think this is a great place to work and learn!!! read more

My daughter was struggling a bit with reading. I waited, I thought she just needed more books. So I bought more books, she read, I read to her. But still, she was behind her peers. So I called Sylvan and they were able to pinpoint the areas where my daughter needed help. So we signed up, thinking it would last for a few weeks, maybe a few months. That is probably what most kids do, attend for a period of time and then that's it. I found that my daughter benefitted greatly in the beginning, but then - she kept on benefitting and she was starting to love her time working with her Sylvan tutor. Sometimes she learns things with her Sylvan tutor before she learns them in class! I have watched my struggling 1st grader turn into a top 3rd grade student. She was a student who would never raise her hand, not because she was shy, but because she had no idea what the answer was. Now, she raises her hand proudly with the answer in her head. And it's so much more than that, her confidence in the classroom carries with her all day. I give Sylvan so much credit for that. They do an amazing job on zoom or in the center. The tutors are amazing! There is no better gift than the gift of education!! read more

We signed up our son here before starting second grade. We were concerned because he still wasn't able to read at a first grade level. I purchased the Yelp deal which helped with the startup costs :) Our son started attending he and we saw a difference within the first 3 lessons. He started reading signs more when we were out and about, he started actually trying to sound out words instead of just giving up. After just a few months he has improved his reading an entire grade level, we are now reading 2nd grade books! Jim and the rest of the staff here are very friendly and knowledgable. Our son enjoyed coming here every week, and we are glad we spent the money to improve his reading skills. I would definitely recommend this Sylvan Learning Center! read more

Jim and the whole staff here are so wonderful. They take pride in their work and really do what is best for the children. My daughter switched schools in April of 2nd grade and by the beginning of 3rd it was apparent something was wrong. Once we made it into Sylvan, Jim gave me some great advice on different vision conditions to ask her doctor about before getting worried about learning disabilities. After a little while we did learn she had ADHD but she has been building great life skills and coping mechanisms to be able to focus. She attends Sylvan for math and even though she might not be practicing what she is learning in school at the time, she is getting that wonderful amount of back fill she so desperately needs. Jim is amazingly responsive to emails and is always understanding of schedule changes and sickness. There is nothing worse than sending your child to a group of sick kids because no one wants to call out and lose a day! Thankfully that does not happen here because Jim is great with rescheduling as long as you let him know right when you do. He is also great at communicating with other Sylvan's when it came time for my daughter to travel across the country to visit her father for the summer. She was able to keep up with the same curriculum and all of her progress was sent to the Sylvan out there. They even honored our prepaid tuition discount for my ex husband so he got to pay the lower price with no assessment fees. Overall it was a good choice to send my child to Sylvan. Though she might not need it every year, it has done wonders last year and is continuing to work. If she ever stops.. I will be sure to get her in to practice for her SATs one day. About 3 years ago we signed our son up for Sylvan as he was struggling in reading and comprehension and was testing a half a grade behind. Once COVID hit and everything was shut down we continued with online sessions to keep him at grade level. At the end of the 19/20 school year we enrolled him for more sessions and added in math as lots of the math went untaught for his 4th grade year due to distance learning and we didn't want him to fall behind. When 5th grade started we kept him enrolled until November and then decided to see if he could hold his own. He has been holding his own since then and just know completed his first quarter in 6th grade and was so proud to come home with high marks in all subjects. Jim and his staff are amazing and will provide a program that works for you and your child. Not only did they help him get up to grade level, but they also instilled great study habits and now my son has this drive and focus to want to do his best in all his classes. read more

Sylvan Learning has been been such a great resource for my sons growth in reading. Charlie started at Sylvan a few months ago, he goes twice a week for one hour at a time, and has made incredible progress. He always looks forward to going and is excited to share what he is learning. My son has been attending this center for over 2 years now. When we first came to Sylvan, our son was not meeting school "benchmarks" in First grade, and we were concerned about his progress as he is a late bloomer in many ways. As a teacher myself, I knew that we could not wait any longer to get him tutoring. I had heard wonderful things about this center from students and their families. Calling this center was the best decision we made for our son! After they assessed our son in reading and math, my husband and I met with Jim (center director) and he explained the academic learning plan for success for our son. Within months Jim and his team were able to get my son to meet all benchmarks!!! Now, two years later he is in 2nd grade; he is reading at a third grade level (mid year) and has a "tool bag" of study skills he learned at Sylvan and applies in all learning environments. Not only has our son shown immense progress academically in both reading and math, he really enjoys going to Sylvan and it has boosted his confidence in so many ways. Although we are no longer concerned about our son's academic progress, he continues to attend Sylvan so he can "get ahead of the game," and most importantly because he enjoys it! Jim and his team communicate regularly with us regarding our son's progress which is greatly appreciated. If I have questions or concerns, Jim is quick to respond and offers a great amount of advice and direction. His door is always open and the students love him and his team! In addition, our son is involved in many sports. Jim is flexible in rescheduling tutoring times/days so that our son can participate in other activities and still attend Sylvan. My son struggled in school since first grade. Finally by the summer after second grade we got him tested at Sylvan. He was almost 1 year behind... Devestating for parent to see their son be that behind. By the first trimester of his 3rd grade year he improved greatly. They tested him to only be 6 months behind!!! I have been to this center twice for testing. If you have the option to go somewhere else, I would because of the procedures here. Although they follow a pretty standard practice for testing, they do a few things that are kind of strange. So both times I have been there they have one staff member that paces during up and down the small testing room they have. It is really distracting when you are trying to focus. I am not sure that this is necessary when they have cameras that are monitoring the room. At the other centers that I have been too, no one ever paces the floor. The other thing that is strange is that they have contacted me to come in earlier on the weekend. They are not pressuring you to come in early, but it does feel like you should. I appreciate the option, but at the same time if I wanted to come in early I would contact you for a different time. It is just a strange facility and I think that there are better choices for those of us who are traveling. If you are like me, and are driving in, I would suggest the Sacramento testing centers. They do not pace up and down the room and are friendly. I have no idea how what they are like as a tutoring center, because I have just used their testing services. read more
