So one of my fellow "junk" loving girlfriends invited me along with her and her Dad to the auction. My home is decorated primarily in what I would call shabby chic style and I have a love for all things vintage and antique. Paired with my love for upcycling, I was excited to check this out. We arrived an hour before the auction. The auction house/resale booth space is located inside the old Marsh store. We wanted to check out the resale booths and then all the things going up for auction so we could scope out anything we may want to bid on. You sign up for an account and number to bid at the front desk/old customer service booth. All you need is your phone number and license. It's free, quick and easy. After looking over the items we had interest in, we found our seats and got ready to bid. The auctioneer started things off with an extremely long prayer, which I found to be a little odd and not my thing, but whatever. I don't find that to be an appropriate place to do such a thing, but to each his own. The auction moved kind of slow for awhile. It was a tad annoying the way some things that really should have been sold as lots, were separated out into individual or small groups of items. It really slowed things up. After awhile, over half the people there left and they finally started grouping more things and selling things as full collections, groups, or boxes and it sped things up to a much more reasonable pace. Also, if you come here in the summer, I advise wearing something that covers the back of your thighs. I had on shorts and had to carefully and slowly peel the back of my thighs from the seat BEFORE trying to stand up. Several people chuckled and made comments the first time I stood up quickly, none the wiser, and had to bite back a scream from the pain of the seat ripping from my skin. I was advised it's a necessity to either wear pants of bring a seat cover, like several people had. In all, we had a good time and got some amazing deals on some really great pieces. I walked away spending right at $20 for many great vintage and antique pieces that, if I wanted to, I could resale and profit at least a couple hundred dollars. Obviously selection and items will always vary and you won't always get that lucky. But this was definitely a great auction night for us.

Goods range from antiques and farm produce to collectives and junk. Prices vary, but generally the best deals can be found early. The dealers are salt of the earth farm boys sprinkled with a few Amish. Everyone is very friendly and willing to dicker. There are 2 buildings with dealers but most set up outside under little pop ups. Today was ok with about 60 dealers. We saw some nice antique farm implements and assorted military and fishing collectibles. We have attended on 5 star days. The offering changes from week to week. A food truck and small cafe provide assorted breakfast and lunch fare. I have not tried the food because it is mostly fried. There is plenty of parking and restroom facilities. We decided to bid online and, after a brief learning curve, got the hang of online bidding. We picked up our items the following Monday and genuinely appreciated the loading help they offered. These are really great, friendly, helpful folks who have had truly impressive estate items for sale. It wasn't just a lot of fun, we can't wait for the next auction.

There's a lot of history being told and you get to see some really cool items at Baxter Auction. Bill actually has run the longest auction of all time and there's pretty good stories about it. And you really must go to the kitchen and try the chicken salad and sausage and gravy, but you better get there early cause it goes fast even if she makes tons of it. If you like dolls and tools, they have some of the best well-known auctions in town for that ...and if you like old tools or clocks, same thing. While owners Lee and Tiffany seem to be genuinely nice people, and there were isolated positives--such as Lee honestly notifying me and securing cash he found while sorting the estate--the overall experience was deeply disappointing due to systematic delays, poor communication, and marketing failures. I met with Lee on April 30. He explained their process, stating that virtually nothing of value would be left worth donating and highlighting his background as an appraiser. This gave me confidence that items would be properly identified, staged, and marketed. Unfortunately, the execution fell short: * Rushed Prep & Poor Lotting: Despite being completely upfront about the massive size of the estate, the final preparation days felt frantic. Valuable items were grouped into large miscellaneous lots with minimal descriptions. Commercial construction tools (drywall, roofing, woodworking) were stacked on top of one another so buyers couldn't see the inventory. Valuable Christmas collectibles, including three trees and highly collectible ornaments, weren't even mentioned in the descriptions. Unsold items were stacked in front of closets, blocking access. * Platform Limitations & Omissions: I received the auction link only after it was already live, discovering pages of needed corrections. I then learned the platform has a strict listing limit--a crucial constraint never disclosed upfront. Consequently, valuable items were omitted entirely, while deeply personal items like my school yearbooks were mistakenly listed. * Substandard Photography & Staging: The platform doesn't support video, making high-quality photography vital. Instead, photos appeared taken haphazardly with an iPhone. An expensive watch featured a blatant reflection of the phone in the crystal. An etched glass artwork was photographed against a stone fireplace, blending into the background so completely it looked like a lump of stone. * Missed Historical Context: A Federal parlor set with documented provenance was broken into three separate lots simply because they couldn't photograph it together. The historical context and provenance were entirely omitted, significantly diminishing its market value. Pickup day on May 28 went well with a hardworking crew, which left quite a mess themselves. Tiffany apologized for the issues and offered to run a second auction to clear the remaining items, noting she had more personal knowledge of them. Unfortunately, that second auction never materialized. Over the next several weeks, I faced repeated delays, missed appointments, and excuses. On multiple occasions, I rearranged my schedule and waited at the house for hours, only to find out they weren't coming after I initiated contact. On the final scheduled date, Tiffany was hours late; after reaching out, a third party told me they wouldn't be coming and a representative would call to resolve it. He came out, but offered no resolution. Because the listing of my home was contingent on the estate being cleared, this lack of commitment has left my real estate agent completely unable to list the property. Furthermore, the financial accounting has been slow. Payment for the first auction required prompting. As of July 10, I still have not been paid for items pulled into a separate jewelry-only auction, despite it closing a month ago. Switching companies now is incredibly difficult because the remaining items are disconnected, making it hard for another auctioneer to build a cohesive sale. I wanted this to be a positive experience, but I cannot recommend Aether Auction. Greater transparency regarding platform limits, professional presentation, better communication, and honoring scheduled commitments would have made a massive difference.
